100% agreed. Reeder must have some other type of value, maybe on STs?
It was night & day when Reeder was out, and the combo of Speights & Rozeboom played. It should've showed our FO something--and judging by the way they brought in Landman & Paul & Dolac to compete, they saw they problem & at least tried to address it.
We've now got some great options with Landman, Speights, & Dolac. Here's hoping Landman wears the green dot.
I would have taken Ingle if a ST player was sought. He was a heat seeking missile (vs a traffic cone).

It’s always interesting how different ones decide who deserve to make the top 53 before the preseason even starts, and never change their mind.
Whereas the Coaches of said teams wait and see who shows they deserve to be on the team.
Then these coaches are viewed as idiots for not choosing somebody who didn’t earn a spot on the team.

I agree that making plays is important. But if Reeder doesn't make plays, what explains the coaches keeping him on the roster year after year? Either they feel that knowing the defense is more important or they feel that he does make plays.
That’s not necessarily true. They could have kept him for his knowledge. Paul moves better than Reeder, especially laterally. However, it’s possible that Paul was not picking up the defense. McVay said Speights didn’t have it down to start the season last year and Reeder started over him. In time Speights proved to be the better player. Did McVay and the coaches get it wrong? Not necessarily. Omar just needed more time. Maybe that’s the case with Chris Paul.

If Paul isn’t ready and they need a Linebacker to step in, isn’t better to have a guy who knows the defense well, and is less likely to be out of position, or is it better to have a more athletic guy who may make mistakes?

The transition for an inside linebacker from college to the NFL is one of the most difficult of any positions in the game right now.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the Pooh Paul pick, he is a bit small for my liking, but I’ve also seen enough of Reeder to know he’s a bottom of the league type of linebacker who has good straight line attacking speed but doesn’t move sideways well and seems very slow to react. So, I don’t think it’s exactly Reeder’s play making that got him on the 53 man roster. It’s more likely his knowledge and experience.

But I’m not upset about it, like a few here. There’s nothing to be gained by it.

Fans love the big hits but, as we’ve seen over the years, they can also be costly. I’d prefer more balance between coverage and hitting. Good coverage combined with solid tackling trumps high impact collisions imo.

I think we're on the same page. If they kept Reeder for his knowledge and Paul possibly wasn't picking up the defense, couldn't we file that under the category of "Knowing the Defense"?

I was essentially stating that they kept Reeder because he knows the defense, or he makes plays because if he did neither, he wouldn't be on the team.

Maybe they needed a guy for blocking, punt protection, etc... we don't know.

Unfortunately his backup is no other than Nick Chubb who apparently has looked pretty good in pre-season

Really? I've heard the exact opposite. That he has no burst left and looks like a plodder.

I guess we'll find out in week 1.

Yep, look at it this way, if Landman goes down in the first quarter next week, who do you want in the game, Reeder or Paul?

BTW, Dolac is also behind Reeder at this point. By the end of the year that could change, but every week matters and coaches don't want to deal with mental mistakes costing them a game early on.

They must really like Murchison and Reeder. I don't know why, but they do.

Larrell Murchison imho should not have made the team
Much as ack up substitute player is not that bad. The drawback is that he is very slow after his initial push, which can be good. He has made plays. He can't pursue as he lacks any speed. Reeder won't see much playing time unless the injury bug hits the unit.

Kind of. I just don’t think he ‘makes plays’ at a consistent rate. He looked good for most of the Lions game but faded terribly in the fourth quarter. After that game he was not making plays. He was a weakness. However, he knew the defense and Speights supposedly didn’t yet.

I think it's pretty simple, really. Mr. Dolac beat out C. Paul and the Rams didn't want to have two rookies learning the position at the same time. They chose Dolac and went from there......
Ya'll can thank me later.

I posted this article because it answered your question.
The title of your embedded clip says absolutely nothing about the green dot only his bulk tackles. If you're talking about the green dot may want to include that in your reply. Just a thought.

Man, looking at this roster and I don't see a weak link anywhere. Even depth wise this is fucking solid as hell. Obviously a few players are way beyond important for SB goals but this might be the most impressive team on paper that McVay has ever had.
I’m looking for another defensive player to put them over the top. Either another Edge or CB. I also have faith Paul doesn’t get poached and works his way onto the 53.

30 years ago that would be a great asset. But they don't let defenders deliver a jarring hit to separate the ball from the receiver these days. I don't remember who got penalized last game but that looked like a clean hit that forced the incompletion. Didn't lead with the helmet. Didn't go near the head. But it was a penalty because you can't hit a guy like that anymore. Maybe Ingle isn't as good in coverage and can only be effective if they let him lay the wood.

The angst over Reeder continues to be one of the more annoying features of this forum.

Paul showed nothing special. He’s exactly the guy you put on the PS. He’s also the 3rd guy

Reeder is Landman’s backup.. he knows the D. That’s important.
I think the angst against Reeder isn’t so much that he beat out Paul. It’s that Paul wasn’t better than Reeder. We all know Reeder is a good teammate and gives 110%. The problem is his 110% aligns with an average depth ILB/ST player versus a starter or someone who plays significant time.

Well we've seen more than enough Reeder, that's for sure!

Probably a good sign that the only real angst after the cuts is the 4th string LB and cutting what would’ve been the 4th RB.

Deep, deep team in key areas.
