Here's something I saw elsewhere:

Les Snead, when asked whether the Rams' lack of adding an offensive lineman until late should be seen as a vote of confidence in the current group:

They did trade a 5th for Corbett. Sounds like they think highly of him. Will be interesting to see who ends up starting where. I wouldn't be surprised (assuming Noteboom isn't healthy in time) if we opened the year with Whit-Evans-Corbett-Edwards-Hav.

What I really want is for the offensive line to play a half at least so they can win the offensive line battle during the preseason instead of establishing them as starters from the get go and not having them play in the preseason.

Except for Big Whit of course. We know what we have there.

He might be getting up there in age but he is still dependable.

Let's hope the guy next to him becomes dependable so Whit doesn't have to worry about him.

That's what made the Whit Saff combo so good - they knew what the other was going to do.

Only problem is our oline actually started playing better after everyone went down. Granted we were playing teams like the Falcons and bengals....

their best efforts were against the division in the last 5 weeks of the season, mixed in with a horrible effort against the cowboys. but in that game mcvay went back to the 11 personnel for the whole game. the youngsters weren't up to that pressure yet.

This year the Rams valued every pick so there was little chance in trading up. I would love to know where they would have pulled the trigger on picking Ruiz, Hennessy or Cushenberry. I had my heart set on a stud Center but not sure if there were any this years.

I like Evans @ LG, has the feet to help cover for the aging Whitworth.

That’s where I’m leaning at as well for starters. I liked Corbett and I’m sure he’ll be solid this year with a longer hold of our team and playbook.

Maybe. His contract is for just less than $4 million. He can play Center or either Guard spot. That's the sort of money you pay a low-end starter or a high-end backup. If Corbett beats him out in camp (many people believed when he was a prospect that Center was his best position), his contract wouldn't stop us from using him as a backup C or G.

His 2020 cap hit puts him at the 20th highest paid center if that's where he plays. It is also pretty on par for a veteran backup who's capable of filling in at Center and both Guard spots.

Welp, we missed the playoffs last year because of the starting Oline, which became an all men-on-deck moment for Kromer. due to injuries.
Spin it any way you want Snead and McVay, it's on you if it happens again this year.

errr...if there IS a this year! lol

Amazing in a few years we went from praising Kromer for turning around our terrible OLine in 2016 to OMG this guy sucks he should be fired and we gotta rebuild the whole oline because he's not doing it the way we want him to do it.

Don't get all passive aggressive about this. We are depending on a LT that we hope can provide consistent play at his age. Our Oline was a liability last year and no one can deny that...or at least not credibly deny it. I know I didn't say to fire Kromer, but you also can't live on the success of 2016 in 2020. The Rams braintrust thinks we can spackle together an Oline with late rounders and UDFA's, and I hope they are right.

That's an overstatement. Here's the composition of our current OL:
Whit - 2nd
Hav - 2nd
Corbett - 2nd
Evans - 3rd
Noteboom - 3rd
Allen - 4th
Edwards - 5th
Anchrum - 7th
Blythe - 7th
Brewer - UDFA
Shelton - UDFA

I think you over exaggerate a little bit. Most of the o-line is comprised of 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounders. They either lack experience or have been injured. A year of development and good health should make a world of difference.

Well Jrry, I made the statement moving forward to fix the Oline into something better and more stable, not necessarily when the current roster was drafted, exclusively. Having said that....

Whit - 2nd [39 years old. Has declined at end of season the last two years]
Hav - 2nd [Injured and was a question mark when "healthy" last year. Also, was drafted before McVay & Kromer arrived]
Corbett - 2nd [We didn't draft him that high. Believed we traded a 5th rounder to the Browns for him]
Evans - 3rd
Noteboom - 3rd [Like the kid, but he hasn't done too much yet to be declared the heir-apparent to Whit's spot]
Allen - 4th
Edwards - 5th [excited about this guy]
Anchrum - 7th
Blythe - 7th
Brewer - UDFA
Shelton - UDFA

.

well, the rams have used two premium picks, 2nd pick overall, on OTs and they chose fucking jason smith and greg robinson.

i'm more than happy on them using lower round picks for the oline.

jackie slater was a 3rd round pick.

works both ways.

Yes, but we are assuming that Snead is a better GM than Billy Devaney ( Jason Smith), and the Robinson pick was actually heavily influenced by Jeff Fisher (not on Snead, somehow). If we have competent people analyzing talent, is it fair to say they can draft capably for all positions except Olinemen in the 1st and 2nd rounds?

I’m not sure Blythe is our starting center, he could be, though. Allen was our starting center, and got hurt very early in the season. IMO. Blythe played well, once he shifted to center. I didn’t like him at guard.

We have depth at guard, now. Tons of competition, and, because of bizarre circumstances, a lot of young players gained experience. We have starters last year, that are on the outside, looking in. Only, because they got injured. Demby, come on, he’s out, why, cuz he had an opportunity, and sucked.

Noteboom is a better OT, than anything else. RT comp, will be fierce, but Note, may also compete at that LG.

Our LT is set, Hav is set at RT. Edwards is set at RG. Battle at LG, and C, but Blythe is a solid choice if needed.

Its gonna be fun, and super competitive. Without massive injuries this year, I feel good.
