That's not what I saw. I also saw Perkins can take an NFL hit, get up and play some more. Same can't be said of Wolford

Denver played the 1's the entire first half. Unless Von Miller is a backup.

I don't know about other fans but to me there's a huge difference between "beating Arizona" and "not losing the game to Arizona". Our defense scored more TDs than our Wolford-led offense.

But let's face it, no matter what team we're talking about, if the backup is playing, they're screwed. Wolford isn't any different than Brandon Allen or any other scrub backup. There are other guys I'd rather have at backup including C.Daniel and Ryan Finley.
Wolford took a bad hit because he wasn't smart enough to get down. Maybe you didn't see him get crushed on other plays and get up? He actually just needs to be smarter and not try for the extra yards.

He runs great and he has a much better release and better arm strength than Perkins.
I don't get it. Is it because McVay obviously loves this guy that some are so down on him?

I’m guessing you didnt watch the game vs Denver with Von Miller and the defensive starters out the on the road. But hey if fewer field goals against a worse defense at home is impressive then that fine I guess. But this narrative that Wolford was good vs Arizona or Seattle just doesn’t match the game film.
Yep for a quarter or two, I'm sure they were going all out for those preseason stats

The curious case of a fan base against its own second string quarterback.

I’m amazed to see folks work so hard, say so much, spend so much time just to convince others that John Wolford is only “an average player”.

You think that's bad? You should have seen the fan base against its own starting quarterback.....

I guess I'm just confused that supporting the 3rd string QB isnt acceptable, that the 2nd stringer is untouchable?
Weird....

He got crushed because despite the limited tape on him, Seattle knew exactly how to play him. Wasnt going to beat them with his arm

As usual fans polarize with QBs. It's some strange shit. "Oh he replaced the QB I love for a game, well no matter what he does he's shit."
I think you nailed it......

"Work so hard"? "Say so much"? "Spend so much time"?

It really doesn't take much work, words or time to understand he's just like 29-30 other NFL backups. Not good enough to be a starter and lucky to hold an NFL roster spot. What amazes me is how far some folks will go equating 4 field goals against Arizona as some kind of sign, we're set at backup QB. McVay likes him? Sure he does. What's not to like? An undersized kid with a lot of moxy. Might as well hand him a mirrror. There are hundreds of those guys who got a cup of coffee in the NFL and then used their college degree to get a job at which they can really excel.

And for what it's worth, Wolford isn't even an "average player".

It sounds like the discussion has two sides. One thinks Perkins is better than Wolford. The other doesnt.
Your twisting it around a bit imo. Nobody has said either is untouchable. You made that up. They could trade or release both in the off-season and pick another one. Maybe once Goff gets released by the Lions he can be Stafford’s backup. :laugh1:

I see the only people criticizing Wolford here are endorsing Perkins.

Well, technically it was only 3 FG against Arizona, but I digress....

Goff would be a great backup. But I think if and when he gets his first taste of freedom he'll run home to the Bay Area and sign with the 9ers.

He got injured on the Seahawks 20 on the Rams second possession of the game in his second start.. in the playoffs, on the road.
Not sure how you make any conclusions on that.
Oh, and it was a dirty hit. Do we just ignore that?

I don't get it.

There are those of us who support both of them.
Differentiating between the two and thinking that Wolford is better isn't not supporting Perkins. Pointing out Wolford did his work in real games is something.
And.. if you really want to go apples to apples... Wolford has thrown a lot of better balls in preseason games than Perkins.
That's not dissing Perkins, that's pointing out what Wolford has done.

I'm assuming that's a Rams record and not for all of the NFL?
NFL record.
So, when I point out that Wolford did good things, it's because Wolford did good things, not because of an agenda or dislike of Perkins.

The QB has control of that. The injury was all Wolford's fault IMO. Yeah it was a dirty hit but Wolford ran headlong into at least 5 of those vs Arizona. Might have been 6.

Has he learned something from that? Fuck I hope so.

No doubt!
In other comments on him, I've said the same. Slide!
He went for the slide some against the Cards, but also ran to contact on others. He's got to realize that staying in the game is more important than another yard or two.
If he does? No reason to think he gets hurt any more than any other QB. The hit he took against Seattle would've knocked most QBs out of the game as well.

It wasnt a dirty hit, Wolford mistakenly went down head first, and Adams lowered his shoulder. Truth be told, he could of done worse
