Ebukam has proved himself to be a legit impact player. His stats were down last year simply because Wade's love of aging players i.e. Clay Mathews who was a joke. Clay's stats were inflated because of AD's play and he simply mopped up. Ebukam has created his stats via good play. Look at his play in 2018 and you see what I mean in both the KC game and especially the NO game. It was his hit on Brees at the end of the game that sealed the victory. His fumble recovery and INT in the KC game was because he was disciplined and playing exactly how he needed to be played. Also in that KC game, you see him setting a hard edge in contain when Mahomes tried to scramble to his right.
The Sam LB position is probably the most underrated position in the 3-4 hybrid scheme. He must cover, set a hard edge in the run game, and be an effective blitzer. Not every OLB can do that. Fowler for all his hype isn't on the team because he couldn't drop. Floyd will validate Staley's confidence in him. He's a complete JACK LB in that he can provide a good pass rush but also drop into coverage when asked, something Fowler was miserable at.
I have no doubt that Floyd will be extended and is considered a priority extension next behind Kupp. After him will be Ebukam and Everett with Samson as a full-time player is the obvious higher priority. Resigning Samson will IMO come down to his desire to stay with the Rams or go for the money. The FA market will be there for both Everett and Ebukam with the bigger market for the TE as opposed to the OLB. That said 2018 showed the league just how good Ebukam has become at his position.
