Our final 8 draft picks are very low, so I'd venture to say that the OTC fan is closer to the truth. However, most teams prefer to carry a CAP 'cushion' into the next season as insurance against potential injury replacements, something up to about $4/5 Mil. seems logical. jmo.
Normally the draft class would be a blip vap wise, but that is when we already had 51 players under contract. The last I looked we still only had something like 43 or 44 players under contract.

Thus, we need another 7 or 8 players to reach 51. So even if they only avg $1M a yr per player, that eats up another $7M or $8M to get to 51.

So, still likley to get some restructuring of Kupp's contract. Just adding a void yr can do that without hurting 24' as well.

Agreed, but he was better then Derion Rayshawn Kendrick.
So you consider yourself a coach ? Don’t know how you don’t see any upside.I think they’re both ascending players. Then again we still haven’t even seen what the roster is going to look like.
Won’t say David Long isn’t going to be an ascending player either.

I heard we've had 3 scouts at every XFL game, so my guess is that's the plan. Snead continues to set the standard for innovation amongst NFL front offices.
And, the USFL may have a lot to offer too! Go get'em Snead!

We have no money.
Spotrac says we have 11.257 mil
We have 44 signed players
We have to pay the rookie class but the only rookies who will count against the cap are if they fall into the top 51.
Right now, that would be 7 of them.
But rookies don't get signed until May or June. Actually after UDFAs are signed.
So 'theoretically' we could sign two or three 'actual' free agents, possibly 4 as long as we leave enough money for an emergency and only the first 3 or 4 picks would count against the cap (2 mil?)
It's really not as bad as it's made out to be
My guess is they're waiting for things to kinda calm down, make a few moves, do the draft and possibly make some more moves afterwards.

I was under the impression that if a team waits long enough, there is a date that negates the impact of any FA signings from the comp rule. IOW, haven’t the Rams used that plan before? They sign the next level of FA (nothing splashy) and it keeps all of their potential comp picks in tact.

What’s funny is that after all the bashing of the Rams’ formula for winning the SB, there are still a lotta unsigned FAs out there. Ironically, most of the Rams are being signed in the window and that DOES count—resulting in the rams once again getting several comp picks.

Good impression. In 2021, May 3rd was the cutoff date......so right after the draft? And of course, your own UFA's don't count (Shelton).

Obviously, we are throwing away the 2023 season. At least to me it is obvious.

What good is it to pay these big salaries next year for nothing?

Is AD really going to play for a losing cause? That dude is too passionate to accept throwing away a year IN HOPES it pays off in 2024.

I guess this is how you fix selling our future to win a SB in our house. Stafford and AD may get only one ring in their career.

I wish I could feel like we are at least trying to do the best we can. And likely this is it and I just can't see it.

Love our SB win. And knew we may be selling our future with the risk. Just didn't imagine this would suck this much. It is what it is.

GO RAMS!!!
This is exactly it. The Rams have made it clear that 2023 is not about being competitive. Its about developing young players and fixing the cap disaster. The expectation in the front office is probably landing a top 5 draft pick for 2024.

Not sure about that, but as to Kendrick , he's going to have to show me he can actually cover instead of giving his man 10 yards then pushing him out of bounds after the reception.

Is it really? I never heard anyone...........not Jourdan or McVay or anyone close to the Rams say, "2023 is not about being competetive". I've heard Jourdan say, "2023 is not about the SB". Not the same thing. Think 2017. And I know.....with McVay's competetive personality.....the expectation is not a top 5 draft pick in 2024. But I get the approach, expect the worst and be surprised.

I’m a 1,000% for sure he will do more than that.IMO he is a very young CB who just keeps getting top notch experience & is going to grow as a player.
For all the Raheem Morris HATERS don’t understand the growth of players no matter who is coaching. He sat (Shula?) Kemdrick after the 1st. Hags game.I saw what Mcvay saw from him early.I guess Allen Robinson wasn’t all that hard to defend though?
Durant is a ball magnate, but if he can’t tackle then The Rams will have trouble.Plus size becomes an issue with taller WR’s.
- What happened to RR31 seems to be an issue.
-Then the draft, wire & UDRFA there will be a couple of depth players.

Might as well run a 1-1-9 Defense.

AD the lone down linemen.
Ernest Jones the line linebacker
And 9 defensive backs

Raheem might have a fighting chance with stopping a simple 12 yard pass play on 3rd and 11.

Well we have the money but the plan was not to transfer it to 2024 even with the hugh CAP jump due to new TV contracts

They want to go all in on 2024 which is fine since it would have been just a little fix for 2023 to spend money this year.
good plan, if Stafford lives through it!

Of course nobody in any organization would come out and say “the expectation is not to be competitive” but it goes without saying based on the moves that have been made. McVay is always going to try his best to compete (just like last season) but the organization isnt giving him the tools in 2023 to actually win games.

For McVay to come back for this season means he is in it for the long haul. 2024 is our next legitimate shot.

Here's what it is. A lot of guys gone out the window early. Nobody coming in. The SHOCK factor is HUGE.

But think back.....calmly.

2018
Losses: Trumaine Johnson, Sammy Watkins, Tavon Austin, Alec Ogletree, Robert Quinn, Conner Barwin, Derek Carrier, Maurice Alexander, Tyrunn Walker, Cody Davis, Cameron Lynch, Carlos Thompson, Kayvon Webster, Lance Dunbar

Gains: Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib, Sam Shields, Brandin Cooks, Ramik Wilson and during the season CJ Anderson

2019:
Losses: Rodger Saffold, John Sullivan, Ndamukong Suh, Mark Barron, LeMarcus Joyner, Matt Longacre, Dominique Easley, Ethan Westbrooks
In season: Traded away Marcus Peters, Aqib Talib

Gains: Blake Bortles, Clay Matthews, Eric Weddle.........
In season: Jalen Ramsey, Austin Corbett

2020:
Losses: Todd Gurley, Clay Matthews, Blake Bortles, Donte Deayon, Greg Zuerlein, Dante Fowler, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Corey Littleton, Marquis Christian, Brandin Cooks

Gains: Leonard Floyd, A'Shawn Robinson

2021:
Losses: Austin Blythe, Malcolm Brown, Troy Hill, John Johnson, Morgan Fox, Gerald Everett, Jake MacQuaide, Jared Goff, Michael Brockers

Gains: Matt Stafford, Matt Gay
In season: OBJ, Von Miller, Eric Weddle

2022:
Losses: Andrew Whitworth, SJD, Austin Corbett, Micah Kizer, Obo Okoronkwo, Von Miller, OBJ, Johnny Mundt, Troy Reeder, Darious Williams, Johnny Hekker, Sony Michel, Robert Woods

Gains: Riley Dixon, Troy Hill, Allen Robinson, Bobby Wagner

Now seems to me, we've always lost a little more than we gained but inserted draft picks and UDFA's onto the roster. This year, it's the BIG NAMES like Jalen Ramsey, Leonard Floyd and a bunch of secondary players like Gaines, A'Shawn, Hill (again), Long, etc. But look back at who we lost some of those years. We lost a ton in 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 and won every year except 2022. And we all know WTF happened there. We didn't carry 17 offensive lineman from the jump.

My current song list watching the Rams roster walk out the door. :zany1:
Wrecking Ball
Go your own way.
All by myself.
If you leave me now.
Only The lonely.
I'm so lonesome I could cry.
Are you lonesome tonight?
Solitary man.
Missing You.
Yesterday
How can you mend a broken heart?

My song of choice would be AC/DC Dirty Deeds

You gotta a corner and you want him gone
But you ain't got the guts
He's talking shit both night and day
Enough to drive you nuts.
Pick up the phone, leave him alone
It's time you made a stand
For a fee, I'm happy to be
Your cut throat man!

Dirty deeds, done dirt cheap!

Sung by Les Snead.....in a much slower tempo, of course! :ROFLMAO:
