Burrow. Daniels and Stroud all are on the cusp and capable of capturing this level of attention and accomplishment. No question, we are seeing the end of an era.Yeah but few of these young QBs seem to have any real gravitas or magic to them. I think the NFL owes a lot to those old QBs who are either retired or soon to do so. They basically helped the NFL achieve unbelievable dominance in American sports. And there were other factors like MLB and NBA fucking up their product and contributing to the NFL dominance, however these guys were definitely the key to what was a golden age for the league.
Will that continue? Let's just say I'm not one of those who think it's a given.
Burrow hasn't sustained his play. Stroud overperformed year one and year two made me wonder whether he's going to be able to sustain. Daniels game I love because he has a fast clock in his head and can throw the deep ball. He might be the best option for greatness among these kids.Burrow. But to date a lot of them have disappointed. Most in fact.
Yep…There will be another time.
Before that list there was a time that saw Marino, Elway, montana, Fouts, Kelly, Aikman, and young. THEY followed a group like Bradshaw, Griese, Staubach, Tarkenton, and Stabler.
Before THOSE guys there were Starr, Dawson, Nameth, Unitas, and Gabriel.
Before THOSE guys, there were, well, you get the point.
It’s a sexy position. It’s what drives the NFL product.
I'm not interested in making excuses for another team's QB.What do you mean? Burrow had an injury filled year. Last year, Burrow played at an MVP level, but the Bengals…Bengaled. No offensive line and a crap defense.
Burrow choked in the dance. Goff choked in the dance. Mayfield, Allen, Stroud, Daniels, Nix have yet to show they can raise the bar in the big games to even get to the dance. Caleb may end up being just a great college QB and there's nothing wrong with that but at best he's with the rest of them. And I don't know why you list Love unless you have a soft spot for the Fudgepackers because he fuckin sucks.Hell there's a long list of QBs ready to fill that void once Stafford and Rodgers retire. Burrow, Goff, Mayfield, Mahomes, Herbert, Allen, Stroud, Danials, Caleb, Love, Maye, Nix, etc.
My dad was an E8 stationed at Fort Gordon, GA in 1968, the year he retired. Leroy Kelly's brother Pat, who played in the MLB was in his unit and I got an autographed picture of Leroy as I was just getting into the NFL intensely that year.Yep…
Time keeps on slippin', slippin', slippin'
Into the future
Every NFL era brings challenges, change and innovation. I’ve been an NFL fan since 1967 (Leroy Kelly was my first hero) and I can confidently state. The NFL is 100% committed to striving for perfection and achieving excellence. It’s never been better for fans, players and owners. You can’t say that about most other professional sports in my opinion.
Not before I win a couple more, b*tches! ~ MatthewI'm not interested in making excuses for another team's QB.
Point is it feels like that younger group you have Mahomes and a ton of boys who need to show they can win big games. If I had to guess I'd say either Allen or Jackson end up taking that next step at some point. But we're looking at the end of a big time era and these younger QBs have big shoes to fill in a lot of ways.
WTF you talking bout Willis? In the original post, 6 names on that list posted on X won the Superbowl. The rest failed. Hell some of those didn't even make it to a Superbow!!! Romo, Luck, Fitzmagic, Palmer. There are currently 5 active NFL QBs who've won a SB, surely with more to come.Burrow choked in the dance. Goff choked in the dance. Mayfield, Allen, Stroud, Daniels, Nix have yet to show they can raise the bar in the big games to even get to the dance. So in your big list there's Mahomes. He measures up all around with those old timers but he's the only one at this point.
