To answer the OP’s question, I believe it would have just delayed the inevitable. McVay wanted a better QB with an elite processing brain, an elite arm, better improv skills and that Alpha mentality.

Once Goff lost confidence in himself, he started to do stupid plays.

I was extremely disappointed in Goff not having the willpower to believe in himself.

I believe it was during his first season with the kittens when they were running out of time and running the two-minute offense. GOOF left the pocket and ran for the sideline to stop the clock, burning more time than simply throwing the ball away would have. Such a putz.

I saw the same post below back then and it was being laughed at on many sports shows. That has to make it true... right? LOL

I think it happened simply because Goff didn't deny it and I didn't see any of his teammates come out with denials either. Plus, like you said, who wouldn't want to. But... wording it that way and putting it out there in writing (text) is not a decision that I want my team's QB making. I would have thought way worse things in my mind about Veronica, but even at a young age I knew better than to disrespect another guy's serious relationship. Especially in writing. Thank God we didn't have camera phones and the internet when I was a teenager though.

I always supported Goff when he was a Ram, but I also had a lack of confidence in his decision making that lingered in my head. His chill attitude started to look like a lack of ambition and fire to me as seasons went by.

I'm staying with the belief that Goff sent that text for now... but who really knows.

Goff was immature in many ways but he seems to have made good. Top 5-7 NFL QB set for life financially. Well respected in Detroit. And a 9.9999 wife (I believe there is no such thing as a perfect 10).

I don’t feel like I need to explain a down year for Stafford and the team in general. 5 wins says it all.

Stafford is tough…but to put ‘22 into my hypothetical perspective, I doubt Goff misses 9 games if he was on that team. I’ve always said he can take a hit with the best of them. I also believe that if he started all 17, he implodes and might win 6 games.

He’s just not the guy i want when things get rough or in the biggest games.

Conversely, Stafford led the league in INT and they still won a SB
Turnovers werent Goff's issue, he just didnt have that killer instinct that Stafford has
Not many do
Would have loved to have beaten the Pats in the SB but all things considered it worked out best the way it did
Goff hit his absolute ceiling during the 2018 season, the KC masterpiece the final bow
He's never been near that level ever since, never will again

Oh I have never stated that Goff is better than Stafford - just saying Goff lost his confidence because of a terrible center.

He would never have won us the superbowl in 2021 even with the better center. And I doubt he wins 3 games with that OL in 2022.

But Stafford also had his issues with that OL. He was better than Goff would be though. And Stafford never lost his confidence. He was still the guy even when we had early OL issues in both 2023 and 2024.

Yeah, that first season with the Lions and Anthony Lynn as the OC was really bad for him. Didn't he burn a 4th down by clocking the football or something too (Actually, I think he threw the ball away).
