It is a short turn around before the Packers game. Expect many more starters to play the Packers. Goff will get way more time imo -- he will learn from the Bosa strip. Still some good signs after the disastrous first quarter.
Expect almost no starters to play actually.

the funny thing to me is, there seems to have been quite a few worse performances by starting QBs this week than Goff had, but I doubt their fans are losing their minds like people here

I wouldn't call @Florida_Ram's post losing his mind. Truth is you have some of us trying to have a discussion about the kid not looking sharp and what it might mean, or what to expect early on this season, but others want to act like it's a chicken little act. Not trying to be a dick here, but that type of post just comes across as smug and doesn't really contribute to meaningful discussion.

There are people on this board that are easy to disagree with because they don't make it into a big long back and forth. You're in that group.

And Florida is too.

I've known you two knuckleheads for a LONG time.

Maybe it's just a different look at the same thing.

Oh. And it's preseason.

So............

LOL. I dont recall even mention any specific names or posts, so dont try and make it seem like a direct attack on anyone. I think its quite clear theres a lot of concern around the forum because of yesterday's game, even though Im sure many of those same people where talking Goff up after the Raiders game. And like I said, manyh other starting QBs had a worse performance than Goff but I dont see the same people overly worried about Goff talking about Matt Ryan, Kurt Cousins, or Marcus Marriota like they are doomed, so yes I think its fair to say people are overreacting here

Cmon man. Direct attack? Never mentioned anything of the kind. Some fans are gonna have their concerns, doesn't really make them wrong. But I've said what I wanted to say on the matter.

Frankly I'm surprised there isn't a bit more disappointment around these parts. The guy is in his second year and he hasn't shown much at all. The defenses he's seeing are the most basic packages he'll ever see and he's still lost. At this point he should not be the starter, Mannion should, unless we want to see the kind of early season disaster we had last year.
I do not think he's anywhere near an NFL caliber QB now and I have my doubts he will be any time soon.

Really? That's not how elite sporting/football teams down here would go about it.

What happened to the gradual build up to Game 1? I would have thought you would build up more and more game time until you are ready to go.
Around the league, typically teams play their starters the most in game 3 of preseason and rest them game 4 outside of maybe one series. I'd assume it's to get the best look at the back end of the roster before cutdowns and to get the starters a little extra rest before the regular season. Fisher went back and forth on that throughout the years, but it's pretty well known that's how most teams handle it.

Understood -- if it means giving fringe players a final shot at making the roster then I understand.

Would have thought Goff gets more game time in Game 3 then. Not sure this is the ideal preparation for the Colts in Week 1.

In McVay 'we not me' trust.

I don't remember the last time anybody ever played starters in game 4.

See post above -- I must have been ignoring pre-season game 4 since 1988:LOL:

http://www.nfl.com/schedules/2016/PRE4

You're welcome to browse there and you can even go back some years. I looked at 5 or 6 games before I had enough to backup what I said. There was 1 starting QB I saw play in week 1 of 2016 and that was Tom Brady, who played because they knew he was suspended and he needed the work before sitting. I don't remember seeing any #1 or #2 WR's or #1 RB's. I could be wrong but like you I've watched football a long time and I don't recall starters playing, with rare exceptions, ever in week 4 of preseason.

I think it's fair to be concerned over Goff's play vs the chargers because I don't think it's the last time we'll be seeing those kinds of plays from him.

Likewise, I expect to see more games like the one he played vs the raiders.

What is going to determine whether or not the Rams turn things around this season is just how much of one Goff we get vs the other. This is his first season as "the guy" and last year's 7 game nightmare is not that far removed.

This is very concerning to me, especially on defense.
New systems, new players, and no time together? No game time vs opponents?

I can't help but think of 2014. Long, Saffold, and wells, basically missed camp. How did the OL look on opening day? Lost to the vikes.

2015 featured robinson at LT, Brown at RG, and Barnes at center. 3 first time starters (1 rookie) taking on the seahawks defense. Those guys were there for the whole camp and played in preseason games. They did pretty good that day (still the best game I've seen Brown play). The only opening day win for fisher?
...just saying

I think the difference is those other QBs have proven so much more then Goff, I think the general concern about Goff is that he looked a lot like last year and one thing that McVay has been preaching is consistency he even said in his presser after the Oakland game that he want to see him(Goff) stack back to back games together. That's the biggest issue to me, knowing which Goff you're going to get. So far the kid doesn't react very well to difficult situations he is good when receivers are running free all game but that doesn't happen often in the NFL during regular season
