This is the flaw in your theory, the franchise tag for an RB can only help raise salaries, cant detract from it.
There is a disparity in pay among the position, but its not due to franchise tags or 5th year options.
Every position has it's drop off point in salary, RB is around #10, TE #15-20, OT/OG #30, C #15-20, QB #15-20
It's also no secret that the highest paid RB's all got their big contract from re-signing with their own team. And in most cases, they got the big contract not in their last year but a season prior.
So the common thread I see among the 3 franchise RB is that each of them had monster '22 seasons, but questionable 20-21.

Only 2 guys in last 5 years which means the majority of the value of the current cap value is based on running back contracts who WERENT tagged.

There isn’t an issue. The cap works the same for all positions.
Id like to see an example using real facts to illustrate your opinion.
Id personally like to see the franchise tag process changed but not for a specific position, for all eligible.

Not For Nothing but I started this thread almost two weeks ago, and it is now five full pages long. Furthermore, in that very first post, I solved the Running Back Compensation Issue.

And not a single one of you Ungrateful Bastards has said Thank You.

If the NFL's RB rookie contract rules don't evolve, I expect you may see some big program college RB's opt to stay in school longer for the NIL money. Bijan Robinson made $1.8m his last year of college and that system just got off the ground.

The NFL will always draw away the great qbs and WRs over NIL, but I could see more elite RB's maxing out their college years if the chances of getting a second NFL contract remain so low.

Market forces at work.
