I think maybe you are a bit over invested. No sense in defending every criticism of a player just because you like the kid. He has flaws like any other player. For me, the scariest part is how slow he looks. Mannion too for that matter. Maybe it's just me. Hope it is.

Yea, I'm in the wrong for being "over-invested" in the success of the Rams' starting QB. That's not what Rams fans should do, right?

The kid does have flaws, but his flaws tend to be magnified by those who doubt him.

The fumble, the 2nd replay shows it all. From what I see is that Bosa hit the ball out right before Goff attempts to pass the ball. It looks like Goff had both hands on the ball until the last second when he goes to pass, and it's (un)perfectly timed with Bosa.

Yep. It's also clear if you watch his feet. He's planting his weight on his back foot with his front foot preparing to step into the throw when Bosa swats the ball. He timed the swat perfectly. It occurred right after Goff took his second hand off the ball to prepare to throw it.

In my opinion:

Neither Goff or Wentz were worth the draft capital used to trade up to #1.
That said, Goff is probably a better fit for McVay, while Wentz was a better fit for Fisher.
Quite frankly, I believe that if Fisher had selected Wentz, he'd still be the HC.

In the end, it's just preseason. I didn't get too excited to see Goff play well in what looked like a gameplanned offensive effort vs. the Raiders basic defense with their horrible secondary. And, I'm not too down because of Goff's effort last night.

I suspect that Goff will steadily improve and become perhaps a Marc Bulger / Dave Krieg type QB in time and the Rams will have to make do.

We can discuss that because when you watch the play in real time and slow motion Bosa looks like he should be in Goffs peripheral vision and Goff had plenty of room to step up/climb the pocket. He did have his head slightly turned left but still I think that's within most peoples peripheral vision. So it's either his helmet needs to be altered to provide a more open view, or he may below average peripheral vision. I think it may be his vision.

I just came over to see what peoples thoughts were on the two. Do I come here a lot? No but I saw part of the game and was surprised by Goff's play. He was cocking his arm so even if he did see him and avoid him he wouldn't have had two hands on the ball.

If this becomes an issue, meaning getting hit from his right side with seemingly no awareness then I will say he has below average vision.

But for now it was a bad set of circumstances that bears monitoring and not a lot more than that.

The play on the pass to Brown didn't have a defender in that type of position.

The interception was more concerning. But if you watch Goff enough on tape over the years you will know that is an anomaly. He throws a solid strong crisp spiral 99% of the time.

I would be concerned and start making projections if he constantly was missing targets. But we have seen otherwise this entire preseason.

I'm excited about Goff in this offense with this supporting cast. He will make mistakes but my money is on a strong season from him.

Only person I've seen "hate on Goff" here is Kowalski.

Fact is that playing QB in this league requires toughness. Jared seemed to have that block checked given what he went through at Cal. But when he comes in for our dress rehearsal for the season and puts up a duck after taking a hit/fumble off the right side of the line, and then the coach on the next possession calls 8 runs in a row and brings in the backup QB before the end of the second half, there's a meaning in there somewhere.

It is worth discussing.

I'll throw out an alternative theory: McVay didn't want to go pass-heavy behind the second-team OL with Goff.

Still think he got his hand/fingers dinged on the strip/sack

I hear ya, and I am not a doubter so much as a cautious observer (like all fans). I didn't see the game and just now watched the "highlights". Wasn't so bad at all. I like how the offense looks. Lots of separation from what I can see. We have been missing that. Mannion looked good as well. High hopes going into this season for me.

The INT was more a brain fart which can be drilled out of him versus a real fatal flaw in his game. He rushed and flung the ball rather than taking the extra tick to make a good throw. The read was right, that's the important thing. The rest of the play was just a hiccup.

Shouldn't that have been Hav in between Goff and Bosa in his peripheral vision. Goff does move slightly left away from Bosa who was basically unblocked.

It comes to this point, Boss coulda planted Goff into lala land, yeah but he decided a strip sack was better and made a great play

Goff came from a spread offense in both, college and high school. He enters the NFL with poor coaching and a lame offensive scheme, plus a poorly coached offensive line. And some here are expecting him to look like an experienced and successful NFL get?

He will make mistakes along the way. Don't act so surprised.
