Love that its an extension. Next year's cap hit is only $22M and tbh $32M is a steal when you consider what other top QBs are making and the cap increases over the next few years

Jared Goff, Rams reportedly agree to massive four-year contract extension
Originally posted on Larry Brown Sports | By Larry Brown | Last updated 9/3/19

Jared Goff’s contract status has been a big question for the Los Angeles Rams all offseason, and the team is answering those questions with a big deal.
The Rams are signing Goff to a four-year contract extension that keeps him with the team through 2024, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport says the deal is expected to contain the largest guarantee in NFL history.

According to Spotrac, the largest amount guaranteed at signing went to Matt Ryan, who received $94.5 million from the Falcons. They have Carson Wentz as the most guaranteed in practical amounts at over $107 million.
Goff, 24, was drafted by the Rams No. 1 overall in 2016. He had a brutal rookie season under Jeff Fisher, who was later fired. The team brought in Sean McVay as head coach, who turned the team around immediately and helped Goff flourish.
Under McVay, Goff has passed for 60 touchdowns and just 19 interceptions. However, his play in the postseason has been mediocre (two touchdowns and two interceptions, 55 percent passing) in four games, leading to questions about whether he can win them a Super Bowl. The Rams apparently believe so.
Goff was under contract to make $4.2 million in base salary in 2019 and nearly $23 million in 2020. The four-year extension will keep him under contract with the team for the following four seasons. There were questions about whether the Rams would give Goff such a deal. Now we know the answer.

Yeah we'll see how the numbers break down that's the real interest in all of this.

Rams, Jared Goff agree to extension
Originally posted on Pro Football Rumors | By Rory Parks | Last updated 9/3/19

The Rams and quarterback Jared Goff have agreed to a four-year extension that will keep Goff in LA through 2024, as Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports (Twitter link). Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets that the deal is expected to be completed in the next couple of days and will pay Goff over $32M per season.
RapSheet adds in a separate tweet that the deal is expected to include the largest guarantee in league history, which means that Goff would be getting over $107M in guaranteed money. Carson Wentz, who was taken No. 2 overall in the 2016 draft — one spot behind Goff — signed a massive extension several months ago that ties him to the Eagles through 2024. Wentz’ extension is for four years and $128M ($32M per year) with just over $107M in guarantees, so it stands to reason that Goff’s deal would top Wentz in terms of AAV and guarantees.
After all, Goff does not have the major injury concerns that have plagued Wentz in the early stages of his professional career, and Goff is coming off a stellar campaign in which he threw for 4,688 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while earning a Pro Bowl nod and a trip to the Super Bowl. There was some chatter that the Rams would simply allow Goff to play out his contract and walk in free agency after the 2020 campaign, but head coach Sean McVay dismissed that notion back in June while fully committing to his soon-to-be 25-year-old signal-caller.
Obviously, the QB market is only growing, and it makes sense for the Rams to make a move now before it hits $40M/year territory. Goff is not perfect, but he’s quite good already, and he still has room to grow. Plus, the Rams profile as Super Bowl contenders for at least the next couple of seasons.
The team already extended McVay and GM Les Snead in July, so three of the most important people in the organization are set to guide LA for the long haul.

I love that they got this done before Dak's ridiculous demands got met. I'm good with a deal a little better than what Wentz got. If we waited another season the market might set itself closer to $40 mil a year.

Man that's crazy money, but im glad it got done. Now I hope Jerry folds and gives Dak near 40 mil, that will be the cherry on top.

Rough math comes up with $27.6 million a year over the next 6 years.

Happy for Jared and the team. Jared has faced adversity and he keeps working to get better. He’s a tough guy and a great match for McVay.
