No chance McVay likes Darnold...or at least I hope not. McVay praised MS by saying something like, "he brings out the best in the biggest moments."

I watched Darnold in 3 games last year-- vs. the Rams in season, vs. Detroit at end of season, and vs. Rams in playoffs. 3 big games, and Darnold was terrible in all 3. Especially the last 2, 2 HUGE games. Darnold was just AWFUL in our playoff game, like a deer in the headlights.

This board would go nuts with disappointment if we signed Darnold. I can't imagine McVay is considering him.

I might be in the minority on this. But I'd like to keep Jackson on the roster if at all possible. The dude while not super durable can play either guard position really well. I was hoping we'd keep him to let him battle it out with Avila. While I understand he probably wants to start for a team and doesn't want to ride the bench, I'd bet he would beat out Avila if given a chance while fully healthy.
I was of this opinion but I'm gonna trust Rams process here and suspect they liked what they saw from backups (Deidrich, etc...) that they feel this is the best way forward to maximize value. Also, I suspect that this means that they didn't really want Jackson to compete for starting center and that either they believe Limmer is better there and/or are committed to developing Limmer there regardless.

Only team that can sign him right now. Also Darnold and his agent would be idiots to sign right now unless the Vikings offered him top dollar.
Must be waiting to sign Stafford like everyone else.

Incomplete analysis. Five of those sacks were his fault for holding the ball too long.

There was a great podcast of former OL, and Vikings fans, that went over this.

And yet he's unsigned. I'm not so sure either coach likes Darnold after what they saw in the playoffs.
At the very least I figured he would be franchised, but like you said his last 2 games were an eye opener

Sure there are and defiantly were some in the past. There are some tough QBs in the history of the NFL with the tenacity to keep it together.
Our last Super Bowl, Burrow got sacked what, 7 times and was still dealing. We could have easily lost that game.
That dude can play on my team any time.
Martz said toughness was the # 1 quality of a QB.

Rams may have preferred to keep him around and let him compete for Center, which would make this team better. But he probably wants to move on since he knows that LG spot is spoken for.

What a wild off-season already..
Not really- just showing mistakes & moving on to reset player personnel.

This offseason The Rams have more depth than usual. They just need to see what direction there going to go before the start of 2025.

Meaning Stafford first ,or at QB to start. Kupp is basically a FA,because of his contract.Just think if AD99 was still on his contract??

If Stafford contract get done then there’s not much difference.Still I think he could be going to the Raiders. There in win now mode imo. —They might even have a partial deal in place.

I agree about keeping him. You can never have too many offensive linemen.

Problem is a back up OG or C won't mean much if they lose AJ. A rookie LT or journeyman LT won't get it done with an aging QB.

McVay was completely fed up with Goff. Darnold is an even worse version of Goff.

Yeah, I think McVay would lose his mind coaching Darnold. A kid making mistakes is one thing, paying Darnold $30M a year and watching him make dumb mistakes, is a different story.

...and how is he going to feel with Arch Manning?
If this is the case, McVay needs to learn some patience. I think he probably had some with Goff, but Goff (per his admission) wasn't putting in a 100% effort to get better, despite his promises to do so. Maybe relied too much on the coach in his helmet?

I clearly stated it's different with a young kid. Teaching a rookie or 2nd yr guy and going through his growing pains is completely different than dealing with a 27 yr old vet who doesn't learn from his mistakes.

Rams Allow Jonah Jackson to Seek Trade

Posted on February 26, 2025 by Jason Fitzgerald

The Rams continue to be very proactive with their roster, this time allowing Guard/Center Jonah Jackson to explore the trade market to try to find a new home in 2025. Jackson was a big free agent addition to the Rams last season, signing a three year, $51 million contract, but things really did not work out. Jackson was moved from guard to center and was injured early in the year, only appearing in 4 games for the Rams. Given that the Rams are willing to let Jackson seek a trade, it probably means the Rams are also going to strongly consider releasing Jackson.

Jackson has a $17.5 million salary this year of which $8.5 million is guaranteed in the form of a roster bonus. His $9 million P5 salary is currently guaranteed for injury only and would be fully guaranteed if on the roster on the 3rd day of the 2025 league year. If the Rams cut Jackson before this date then they would avoid having to pay that extra $9 million. If traded before that date the Rams would also no longer be responsible for the $8.5 million roster bonus. If the Rams cut Jackson prior to the roster bonus being earned they would also receive an offset for any salary he earns from another team.

The cost on the salary cap to cut Jackson is pretty straightforward. The Rams would take on $11.3 million in dead money which is the remaining prorated money in the contract. This would be a $3.3 million cap savings. If cut before the bonus is due they would then get a credit for whatever that number is in 2026.

The numbers in a trade are likely a bit different. Jackson’s contract is a rare one in which the Rams opted to prorate the 2025 roster bonus a year early. I believe in a trade the team would carry the proration from this year but not the acceleration from 2026. If traded the Rams would get a credit in 2026 for prorated money that counted against the cap in 2024 and 2025 (and 2026 if that does indeed accelerate). So my assumption is the dead money in a trade would be $8.5M with some credit the following year.

Trading probably won’t be easy. $17.5 million is the biggest salary for a guard in 2025 and Jackson is not considered anywhere near the best player at the position. Jackson has not played in 21 of his last possible 51 games and there is no money in the contract tied to availability or playing time. He is a few years removed from being a pro bowl player and last year was nothing short of a disaster. His best chance for a trade would likely be to agree to a $10 million salary with a new team, which would maximize his earnings for the season if the Rams are moving on and hold the offset on the roster bonus over him.

The Rams are probably the best team in the NFL when it comes to not getting caught up in sunk costs in a player. The fact that they are giving him permission to seek a trade tells me that this is a situation that they don’t see working out and will strongly consider moving on after just one season whether by trade or release.

At what price ? IMO this O’Line coaching staff is just getting better together.
We didn’t Z. Thomas though at LT last season & he just about got Stafford hurt .

Justin Dedich & Limmer both really stood out.Dedich was a Center for a season at SC.There’s some depth especially with Alaric signing.

The way The Rams bring young players up is through there preseason games. SO - ???

Memphis Ram - do you believe the end of the article??

Also Deirerbrock says Alaric Jackson couldn’t have been resigned last year as a RFA.

Is that because he was a UDRFA ??

IMO - he should’ve been extended, but there was a lot going on with him & his suspension.Noteboom was coming off the books.

What might’ve happened was Dotson was a FA & Shelton as well.
The uncertainty upfront made The Rams look into Free Agency.
—I believe they got into a deal(‘s)
and were winging it.Why Shelton wasn’t extended the year before when his market value was super low.He would’ve at least been an excellent swing guy C/G.

So they were put in a difficult situation.Thinking outside the box was a little bizarre. Then again Shelton would’ve taken a 2 year deal. It’s complicated, but it almost cost The Rams there season.

Now with Dedich,McMahon, both undersized though, a long with Limmer being a stud. There’s a young base there at center. You have a nice nucleus.

What’s depth supposed to look like in 2025.Trading Johan Jackson would open up CAP. In 2 years Avila,Dotson & Jackson all become Free Agents. Then your scrambling again & not having developing Younger players following???
