I love a guy not afraid to compete, even moreso when he believes in himself.

Not bad traits for any player.

McVay delegates and believes in his staff.

I am curious why they liked him over O'Connell, who along with his skill set and standing at 6-3 215 lbs, has the stature to be a starting QB. And he has apparently impressed in Raider OTAs thus far.

Just would love to know since they passed on him for Bennett.

Bennett is a winner.

And you don’t walk on at Georgia, beat out everyone, and win back to back national Championships without out working every single member of the team.

That’s why he was picked. You can’t coach that. Physical tools mean nothing if you don’t put in the work.

Example: Jamarcus Russell

The moxie rating appears off the charts with Bennett. I don’t bet against those types. And HE HAS physical tools to work with.

I am anxious to see him against NFL competition before I get too excited… But, Stetson is the kind of guy that beats the odds.

Exactly. He IS the guy who has beaten the odds.

I mean, it's not like anyone is saying he is going to take Staffords job. It's just that he brings an interesting story and skillset to the QB room. My favorite thing about him is that quick release. Kid can spin it.

Let's wait and see what this guy has before we rush to judgement on the pick. As an avid Ram fan, I want all these draft prospects to work out and help the team. If you have doubts, that's fine, but I prefer to see them in the season, and then have an opinion. As for character assasinations, those opinions don't mean much unless you have first hand experiences.

Is that a bad thing? I like a quarterback who is cocky. Confidence is half the battle.
Yep. It’s a lot different win other sports where cockiness can draw penalties or be a distraction. Don’t see that happening with the coaching staff, or letting it last long on the field.

I've been saying for a long time they needed a quality QB2.

Remember, McVay said very early on that it was LaFleur and Robinson who picked him out of all the QBs in this draft. What stood out to me when he said it was that Bennett was basically their choice for QB not his. I think he delegated that QB2 choice to them because he already knows who he wants as the successor to Stafford in 2025.
I think you're taking a lot of 'creative license' with McVay's comments.

He said, "Les, Robinson and LaFleur identified Bennett very early on".

They didn't '"choose him over all the QBs in this draft". They chose him over all the QBs in this draft who might be available when McVay/Snead targeted a pick on a QB. HUGE difference.

Additionally, how does that fact translate to "he's not McVay's guy"? He has designs on a QB in rhe 2024 draft? Must be Caleb right?

One thing you can't do is draft this year like you know what's going to happen, who you'll be able to draft next year. I don't believe these guys look down that road for a second. They live in the now. And now, Bennett is their unanimous choice.

Occam's razor

I’m not against Bennett. But when it comes to out working people, McVay called John Wolford the hardest worker on the team. Tools are important. This is the top level. You cannot teach the tools.

I was hoping for O’Connel personally.

I really felt the QB that the Cards drafted was the QB to get, but hey what is my opinion compared to Sneads?

I do see why they drafted him and if somebody is saying he’s a wasted pick they need to get off their high horse.

Curious asf to see what comes about here this TC and Preseason with Tune and Bennett and a few of the others non top tier guys.

I dont see anyone saying this was a wasted pick. I liked Tune myself but its water under the bridge. No competition between the 2 now, the only QB competition I'm interested in seeing is Bennett vs Rypien

I think once we get towards the end of TC and Pre Season Bennett will start vibing with the 2’s somewhat. I’m excited to see how he progresses.

Wolford was not a two time national champion.
The last I looked, football was a team sport and when Wolford was in college I believe Alabama was monopolizing college football. Its not like Bennett had no help. You could say that he was in the best situation of any college QB with the team he had around him.

You can teach someone how to work. You can't teach talent.

I confess that I have not read every post on this thread, so if this has been addressed, my apologies...

That said, does anyone here view Bennett as a successor to Stafford/long-term starter?

If the measuring stick is "backup QB who is potentially better than John Wolford," okay... I could see him being that. But, as an heir apparent... moxie ain't enough.

I view him as certainly a possibility to be a long term starter.
