A few things on this video:

• Like most of you, no doubt, I shuddered, and threw up a little, when I saw Rat-boy with a Rams logo backdrop. The horror. He looks 25 years older now. Ages like a President.
• Coach McVay looks confident and ready in the video footage they show. Just 30, and he was ready for the next step. So grateful that Rams BrainTrust made the right moves.
• Harold Goodwin- Rooney Rule. Such an insult to Black people, they have to feel dirty sometimes knowing they are being interviewed just so a team can prove they are not racist. So many good quality black coaches. Teams want to win. If you are good, they will hire you. Sports in general and football in particular are a testimony to Dr. Kings Dream. They Rooney Rule is not. It needs to be abolished.

I was hoping for Shanahan. I felt he was the most proven candidate. The Redskins offense was good but I felt that may have been a credit to Gruden, since there wasn’t much drop off after Shanahan left.

I’m glad the Rams chose McVay, but I think we would have been good with Shanahan too.

This is somewhat debatable although I believe it has gotten better. Sometimes, people do not realize the quality of a candidate.

Back in 2007, the Steelers were all set to hire their OC Russ Grimm. They interviewed Mike Tomlin, who was the DC in Minnesota to abide by the Rooney Rule. The Steelers were so blown away by Tomlin, they hired him over Grimm and the rest is history.

That does not always work, but sometimes giving an individual the opportunity to interview does at the very minimum, prepare them for future opportunities. Agree, you want the best coach, but currently there are 4 or 5 if you count McDaniel in Miami. Tomlin, Ryans, Bowles & Morris. Dave Canales is of Mexican descent. Obviously, it is sitll a work in progress IMHO.

Good points, Den. 4 or 5 isn't a bad number, is it? We humans are always a work in progress, aren't we? If you figure the African American population to be around 13-14% in America, and 14% of 32 is 4.48 it seems about right.

Coaching and playing are different skillsets. I'm not sure why we look at certain areas and say, "let the best man/woman win," and in other areas society cries out if there aren't enough left-handed female welders duly employed.

One thing I love most about the NFL is how men are just men. Guys on the team seem to just be family and respect each other. There seem to be a lot less racial strife than in other places in society. Just the way it seems to me.

I'm glad things worked out the way they did. But at the time I was hoping for Ratboy Jr as well.
We needed an offensive HC, and he was as close to a sure thing as there was out there.
He did well in SF, so he would have been a good coach for the Rams.
BUT, he is a famous choke artist and still hasn't won the big game.
McVay was a much bigger risk, being so young, but he has done amazingly for our team.

Absolutely. Kroenke had the common sense to seek the advice and opinion of Marshall Faulk, somebody who knows a helluva lot more about football than Stan does, and then take that advice. That's a smart owner and because of him, we are where we are today. Starting year 9 of a fun ride.

Legend has it a snowstorm prevented Shanny from interviewing. I think he might match McVay at Xs and Os, but McVay has him beat with all the rest of the HC intangibles, and has been culturally nothing short of transformational.

Not sure what you mean by that. Are you saying that if we see Shanahan (as I do) as a guy with football smarts but not good character, leadership, instincts in the moment, and leader of men- to be clear, I see NONE of these qualities in Rat-boy, we somehow aren’t looking clearly?

I think the fruits bear it out, Sean McVay is head and shoulders a better coach in all of these ways, and maybe a “touch” less crafty in play calling. I’ll take that any day of the week. Count me as a “hater”. And a fan-boy if it suits you.
