Georgia would have found a way to hire him. It all starts with ownership. And we can thank her for that all important lesson.Don't even remember Harold Goodwin being mentioned lol. Thank god that didn't transpire.
Pat Kirwan on Sirius NFL the day McVay's hiring was announced: "I'll give that one a year."I wonder if Martz is still ill over the McVay hire.
I will never ever thank her for anything.Georgia would have found a way to hire him. It all starts with ownership. And we can thank her for that all important lesson.
This^I was hoping for Shanahan. I felt he was the most proven candidate. The Redskins offense was good but I felt that may have been a credit to Gruden, since there wasn’t much drop off after Shanahan left.
I’m glad the Rams chose McVay, but I think we would have been good with Shanahan too.
This is somewhat debatable although I believe it has gotten better. Sometimes, people do not realize the quality of a candidate.A few things on this video:
- Harold Goodwin- Rooney Rule. Such an insult to Black people, they have to feel dirty sometimes knowing they are being interviewed just so a team can prove they are not racist.
So many good quality black coaches. Teams want to win. If you are good, they will hire you. Sports in general and football in particular are a testimony to Dr. Kings Dream. They Rooney Rule is not. It needs to be abolished.
Good points, Den. 4 or 5 isn't a bad number, is it? We humans are always a work in progress, aren't we? If you figure the African American population to be around 13-14% in America, and 14% of 32 is 4.48 it seems about right. This is somewhat debatable although I believe it has gotten better. Sometimes, people do not realize the quality of a candidate.
Back in 2007, the Steelers were all set to hire their OC Russ Grimm. They interviewed Mike Tomlin, who was the DC in Minnesota to abide by the Rooney Rule. The Steelers were so blown away by Tomlin, they hired him over Grimm and the rest is history.
That does not always work, but sometimes giving an individual the opportunity to interview does at the very minimum, prepare them for future opportunities. Agree, you want the best coach, but currently there are 4 or 5 if you count McDaniel in Miami. Tomlin, Ryans, Bowles & Morris. Dave Canales is of Mexican descent. Obviously, it is sitll a work in progress IMHO.
Of course. The Shanahan haters are little more than fan-boy Niner haters with little neutrality.I was hoping for Shanahan. I felt he was the most proven candidate. The Redskins offense was good but I felt that may have been a credit to Gruden, since there wasn’t much drop off after Shanahan left.

Absolutely. Kroenke had the common sense to seek the advice and opinion of Marshall Faulk, somebody who knows a helluva lot more about football than Stan does, and then take that advice. That's a smart owner and because of him, we are where we are today. Starting year 9 of a fun ride.It all starts with ownership.
Legend has it a snowstorm prevented Shanny from interviewing. I think he might match McVay at Xs and Os, but McVay has him beat with all the rest of the HC intangibles, and has been culturally nothing short of transformational. The Rams almost had the Bob Ueker of Coaches with Shanahan. Missed it by that much![]()
Not sure what you mean by that. Are you saying that if we see Shanahan (as I do) as a guy with football smarts but not good character, leadership, instincts in the moment, and leader of men- to be clear, I see NONE of these qualities in Rat-boy, we somehow aren’t looking clearly?Of course. The Shanahan haters are little more than fan-boy Niner haters with little neutrality.
"This McVay kid doesn't care about burning timeouts!! Thats not acceptable." Mike "Im not crazy" Martz.I wonder if Martz is still ill over the McVay hire.
So grateful for this McVay era of Rams football. It's like football Christmas every single day! Thank you Marshall!Absolutely. I wouldn't be good w zero Lombardi trophiesI was hoping for Shanahan. I felt he was the most proven candidate. The Redskins offense was good but I felt that may have been a credit to Gruden, since there wasn’t much drop off after Shanahan left.
