It occurred to me after watching a recent Rich Eisen Show where Maycock was afforded the respect as a Draft Guru that he once had before his disastrous stint as the Raiders GM. He was hired by Bowl Cut (Davis) based largely on his NFL draft evaluations on the NFL Network, as it appeared to me. Once hired, his prior constant availability on NFL Network went dark as he became the GM and supposed savior of the Raiders.
He was a TV guy and not a GM. He failed with the Raiders and is back to being a Draft personality after a few years. His firing by one of the worst NFL teams and the lack of interest by any other Pro team indicates that he was a poseur as an NFL GM.
Other poseurs?

Adam Archuletta~ NFL Safety. Supposedly exotically trained by his Dad and received nutrition from an early age, to become an NFL Superman. First round pick by the Rams. He played OK for us, but then went to his second team and was a huge disappointment. The poseur aspect was the build up that he had before drafting him and never living up to the hype.
Chip Kelly, Nick Saban, NFL HC's? College HC's supposed to be the next Big Thing as NFL HC's. Nope.

Give those you considered as highly promoted players, Coaches and Front Office staff only to be total disappointments This is slightly different than BUSTS, IMO

I feel that Chip was only a poser as an NFL HC. His offenses were something to behold at Oregon. He did pretty well with Ohio State too.

Mayock has always been a douche IMO. I can’t come up examples but it always seemed he had the same top few guys as everyone else and then shit the bed from there. I think the same can be said for that other idiot The Hair-do.

PFT is ALL poser douchebags - PERIOD!

Cam Newton - poser

Meshawn Johnson - poser

Brian Bosworth - poser

Kyle Shamahan - poser

I could keep going but I’m bored.

He was pretty good in Philly until they gave him control of personnel.
I wish he could have stayed in San Fran for a decade the way that team performed
I really thought he'd do better at UCLA then he did. Alas.....

Imo a lot of Mayocks failures in Vegas can be laid at Grudens feet. Not saying he wasn't part of the problem but just like Fisher here Gruden had total control.

Archuleta was pretty good for us. He had crippling back injuries that really restricted him after he signed that big deal in Washington. He's a good announcer these days too. Poser is harsh for him.

Steve Spagnuolo is the most obvious poser when it comes to recent Rams history. That guy came in with huge pedigree and 4 crumbling pillars.

I agree. Archuleta was an absolute beast until he got injured and lost a step
Spagnolo was just a freak

Except that I think there was an assumption that because someone studied the draft, he would automatically be good at navigating the draft and running a corporation. You can pin that fact on Gruden as well. I don’t think son of Chuckie really knows shit about whole organizations. Bowl cut doesn’t either so they all were a perfect marriage.

I may be biased because my stinkometer has always pegged whenever Mayock opens his pie hole.

Yep. That was Gruden's baby. He had final say on personnel and it's never been his strong suit. Mayock just went down with the ship.

He can be the best at it. If a Gruden or Fisher ignores you and goes with their guy it doesn't matter.

True. I’m just saying Mayock had a reputation. But that didn’t include running an operation with roughly 200 employees (not including players) and big boy negotiations. He was a low end Safety for a couple seasons and a draft analyst. How in THE hell does that qualify him to run a team even if Gruden is calling the personnel shots? It was so Raiduhs/bowl cut. I laughed when he was announced. I really couldn’t believe even Mark Davis could be that stupid. But…. Stupid is as stupid does. Enter The Bowl Cut.

So as far as posers go, Mayock is way up on my list. A fucking draft analyst as your GM with no prior executive experience of any kind? Wow! :laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:

Yeah, hard to argue he was a poser when many NFL coaches don't even have the success he had, albeit for a short stint.

You want to bring up Coaches, what about Urban Meyer 2021 Jaguars?

GM...MATT MILLEN is at the top of the list IMO.
