Wonder what their scouting report on Trice looks like. I'd love to see that one.

In the past I've read how NFL personnel people point out the difficulty in having success in the bottom 1/3 of the 1st round.

This is probably one of the main reasons Snead was/is so willing to deal that 1st round selection for a proven talent.

If there is no proven talent to deal for the Rams should just follow the Ravens example. They just sit back, watch a great player fall into their laps and pull the trigger whether the player fills an immediate need or not.

I was saying all preseason that the Rams had already retooled the roster twice—making it to the SB with each roster. This is already the third time since McVay has been here and…the Rams are back in the playoffs in the first season. That’s what they did in 2017 and 2021.

These guys don’t mess around. They just don’t have long rebuilds. They’re trying to maximize the AD, Kupp, Stafford, Higbee, and Havenstein window.
I don't know about that. They drafted or brought in a lot of good complimentary players. Corbett, Ebukam, D Will, SJD, Edwards, Allen, Noteboom, Morgan Fox, A'Shawn, Hill, Reynolds, VJ, Akers, Hendo, Gaines, Shelton, Scott, J Williams, etc. Not "top of the roster" but good players. Reynolds was solid. VJ was until he suffered injuries. D Will was very good....still is. A'Shawn was solid as was Gaines. Hendo had a pretty good Superbowl which goes mostly unnoticed. Everybody remembers Von Miller and OBJ....for good reason. Hell Hopkins made some huge grabs for first downs in the SB. It is the coordinator's job to mask deficiencies and utilize the strengths on every team. And every team has both.

I think "F them picks" was a catchy label put on a very smart approach that cost them 1 season. And it could be argued without the historic dearth of OL injuries in 2022, that price would have been 0. They had to do it that way because of what they were handed from Fisher. I know many fans claim there was talent there but they 'remodeled' in 2017, tweaked it in 2018, bit the bullet in 2019 letting some guys go (Saffold) and OL injuries hurt them there too, Goff broke a finger in 2020 (and was on the shit list by then anyway), all in in 2021, then 2022 was a clusterfook of injuries and now a remodel again and THE PLAYOFFS. Next year they are set up to tweak it again.

I wonder what label folks will give them next year? "Make them picks"?

If I’m taking a wide receiver with a first, he’d be Brenden Rice. Yes, he’s Jerry’s kid. No, I don’t give a fuck; that kid is gonna be a stud, and would fit our roster so well.
It's still super-early but I have not seen any projections that have Rice going in Round One.

That’s going to change. He’s going to run a 4.3 forty, jump out of the roof, run a quick three cone at the Combine, do really well at the Senior Bowl. Some team’s going to pop him late in the first, and that team’s going to be happy. He’s bigger and faster than his dad, and runs the exact carbon copy of his dad’s routes.

Love the kid as a prospect but yeah earliest I see him mocked is the 3rd. But things change a lot this time of year.

Lots of things. Egbuka’s going back to school. That’s part of my reasoning; someone’s got to rise, lots of teams late need receiver help. When I talk about Rice, he’s not just a physical freak or a technical route runner; this kid lives and breathes football like his dad did, and it’s in a bigger and faster package.

Don't try to sell me on him I've been on his bandwagon for months :D

Still 1st round is a hell of a boost he's usually mocked around 90-100. Yes things can change but 1st round is quite the reach IMO.

OK then.

If you can PM me the next LOTTO winning numbers, I would greatly appreciate it!

Fair enough. If not first, I’d say, easily early-second. Someone’s got to fill a massive hole in this draft, and many teams late need wideout help (Bills (Gabe Davis is a free agent and Diggs is a diva), Titans (dealt A.J. Brown and haven’t replaced him), Chiefs (Toney, lawl), Lions (Williams is trending to bust territory), Ravens (everyone but Flowers and Bateman are old, and Bateman’s a bust), Whiners (if they don’t re-sign Aiyuk), Buccaneers (Evans is a free agent), Steelers (Johnson’s always hurt, and Pickens is a diva), Texans (Tank Dell and Nico Collins are good, but Stroud could always use more help), Bengals (if Higgins leaves/Chase is dealt), etc.)

Of course, you’ve got a lot of great receivers (Harrison Jr., Nabers, Odunze, Coleman, Wilson, Worthy, Mitchell, etc.), but Rice ticks boxes that the others - save for MHJr. and Nabers - simply don’t.

I know I’m preaching to the choir with you, OS, but I truly believe that this kid is gonna be an incredible receiver.

Sorry, I don’t gamble with money; haven’t made a bet in the sportsbook all year.

Rams have proven they can find WR gems in R3/R4/R5 (Kupp, Robinson, Nacua). And R2 doesn’t necessarily equate to stud WR status (Atwell). So not sure WR in R1/R2 is in the near term plans.

I watched him the last 2 seasons.. I worry he's got a lot of Van Jefferson in him.

I don't see any world where he's a first rounder.. just did not put up that kind of consistent production. Who knows? Maybe Williams was playing too much out of structure and Rice was open more than I realize?

Either way.. adding to the receiver room seems important. If they *don't* keep Robinson.. I think they may need to add 2.

Brenden Rice in the 1st!?? No no no no... never. I like him a lot and he fits our scheme no doubt..but this is an elite class at the top.

If one of the LSU WRs happen to drop or Coleman from FSU I'd love to see him in horns. Coleman will be special and is an entirely different level of athlete. He's in the Julio Jones/DK Metcalf athletic class.

It is an elite class at the top, but I feel the same way about Rice that people did with Cooper Kupp and Puka Nacua; he will outperform his draft slot because he learned routes from one of the greatest route running receivers of all time, is an underrated deep threat, vise grips for hands, is a big and physical receiver, and above all, is a smart player who lives and breathes football.

This would not be a Van Jefferson pick, @Kupped ; he and Rice are completely different players. Van always had issues with body catching; Rice does not. Van struggled with the physicality; Rice relishes it. Rice is bigger than Van, faster than Van, and I truly believe he should go higher than Van - even in this stacked class of receivers.

My comp is more about vibe.. he doesn’t feel like a baller.

Vibe? Again, nothing like Van. Rice is a kid who breathes football, plain and simple. It’s harder than it looks for an offense to have an off-schedule quarterback like Caleb; you have to be smart, have to get open so that he can see you, have to maintain protection as a lineman.

And even with that, when Caleb started to trust Rice, he was impeccably good.
