Murphy is not answer, slow plodder. Hope is Obo to have the flexible BEND required to be a bonafide pass rusher. Must also have the strength. Landry was hope in draft this last year..... he has flexibility, but lite in cakes and injured. Franklin is situational, (hand down) may be iso like Barr was if he is stand up. As Gruden said, tough to find a pass rusher!!

Dom Easley was just getting settled at OLB when he got tweeked. He'll be back within the next two games. He's a better pass rusher than Meyers.

I first want someone to contain at OLB.....set the edge vs the run and contain first on the pass rush.
Samson and Longacre are just taking up space so far this year. Samson just gets engulfed by tackles. Maybe that is him setting the edge....don't try to run around the tackle (the only way he gets a rush) and leave a giant hole. Longacre looks like a shadow of his pre injury self.
It is the one glaring weakness on this team.
That said, 4-0 and a front runner to win the NFC. No complaints. It's just a weakness.
I really had ShaQ Barrett hopes, strong. they signed

Obo is unlikely to be the answer. He has never actually had a real practice with the Rams or any NFL team. He is ineligible to practice for at least two more weeks. That's a lot of rust he will have in the best case scenario. Maybe he is fantastic yet fell so far to the Rams, and after 3 weeks of practice after coming off the pup he might be useful, but that is ambitious. Perhaps a very rare occurrence occurs, and by the playoffs he can be a meaningful contributor - but if the Rams have a shot at a useful vet in game shape, they'd be foolish not to explore getting him.

What about Shane Ray? He looked like he had potential but is just a backup in Denver now. Could probably get him cheap and is better than anyone we currently have.
Better off waiting for Obo to get healthy and ready. Shane Ray would be a waist of an IR spot guy can't stay on the field and we're better off without him.

Everybody is so quick to throw away what we have in the chance that it might be an upgrade. Last year Wades D got off to a slow start as new starters slowly got up to speed in his scheme. Easley just came back. Ebukam is doing fine. Longacre is good depth. Obo could come back soon. There's nothing out there that's worth the draft picks to trade for that we can afford nor are there any free agents worth a roster spot. Let Wade do his work, he's the best there is for crying out loud. Trust in Wade!

Since the Rams tried to trade for Mack, apparently Wade is somewhat unsure of the Rams' edge rushers too.

Obo is unlikely to contribute significantly this season - he has not practiced at all since college days - the most he's had were OTA walk throughs. There may or may not be anybody worthwhile out there, at a price that makes sense - but if the Rams can get somebody for a mid or low pick, it may be worthwhile. The Rams have spent a lot of resources to have a Super Bowl contender - it would be a shame to fall just short for not being willing to trade a future fifth.

I don't know if Ray is the answer - but while he missed time last season (and none this year) he played all 16 games two years ago, with 8 sacks. He is probably not going to be traded, since the Broncos are 2-1 and have hopes of winning their division. But that is different than him just being a future IR spot. But he's the sort the Rams should be looking for - a backup that has shown signs of productivity, but who is about to be a free agent. Just need to find one on a team falling out of contention.

JFM reminds me alot of James Hall and I think he's going to be a 6-8 sack/year guy for a long career.

Ebukam is getting closer, you have to remember he's a second year player, and it takes pass rushers a few years to develop.

I don't think Longacre is 100% yet, he doesn't look like the player he was last year.

I'd like to see Westbrooks on the field some more. He's always around the QB.

I think we all have an absolute reason to worry but I'd like to see what Wade does now with 1/4 of the season under his belt. He hasn't exactly known what he's had here until now. I'll panic once we get to mid season. Thankfully we can depend on the offense right now.

We were able to get to the QB late in this contest... if that kind of production carries over into the next few weeks I won't be too worried. We came away with four sacks in the Vikings game.

Any team in their right mind would add a former DPOY sorry that's a horrible argument.

So by your argument, every team made an offer, even if they had cap issues already? Or is your out that any team that didn't make an offer is by definition not in their right mind? Which is absurd. Teams could legitimately not want a guy who wanted to be paid more than any non-QB, and especially if it was going to take multiple firsts for that honor.

So whose argument is horrible? The fact is, the Rams were willing to get into cap hell and trade multiple picks, in the hope that they could trade Mack for good value after one season, while hoping that Mack insisting on the top contract wouldn't eff up team chemistry. That shows a certain desperation on the Rams' part to find an edge rusher - not something you do if you are happy with the edge rusher situation on the team.

https://www.therams.com/news/injury-report-9-28-mcvay-provides-updates-on-talib-easley

“We're looking into it and this poor guy has been through a whole lot,” McVay said. “In terms of exactly what that means, you just look at how much his knee has been through, the amount of surgeries, the way that he has persevered through it. It might be something that if he has to get that thing cleaned up again, it will be a tough situation. We're still evaluating, but it's looking like it could be something that could keep him out for a while.”

I would have to disagree what the rams were trying to do would have been extremely risky. Especially after giving Aaron Donald all that money. If they were trying to add mack and we can clearly see we dont have a legit edge rusher I would think wade thought the same thing. Also no one here is saying give up on obi but he is unproven and has missed alot of time. Do you really thing he is gonna step in as a rookie after being injured and make the difference? I dont at least not this year. The rams time is now

I say make a move w/ the Bills for Trent Murphy, he's locked up for 3 more years @ 7m per year.

Trent Murphy | Defensive Lineman | #93
Team: Buffalo Bills
Age / DOB: (27) / 12/22/1990
Ht / Wt: 6'6' / 260
College: Stanford
Drafted: 2014 / Rd. 2 (47) / WAS
Contract: 3/14/2018: Signed a three-year, $21 million contract.

Ourlads' Profile:

2014 Guide: What Ourlads' NFL Scouting Services said about Trent Murphy: Stanford, 6053 250 4.85. Three-year starter. Team captain who is a blue collar worker. A good combination of intelligence and intensity. A hybrid standup linebacker/defensive end who is disruptive and explosive in his play. Led the country in sacks. Disciplined within the defensive scheme. He does it all – rushes the passer, drops into coverage, plays receivers man-to-man in the slot, can power rush on stunts up the middle, and play the run off tackle. Quick off the ball. Uses his hands well. Can get an offensive tackle back on his heels. Very good hand and grab strength to knock the tackle off balance. Can dip and lean around the corner. Contains the edge well. Hits with an explosive force. A good effort player who is alert for traps and draws. Finds the ball quickly. Teams usually run away from him. Needs to continue to work on his pass drops. 2013 stats: 62 T, 23.5 TFL, 15 sacks, 2 FF. Edge speed:left 1.71, right 2.07. OSR:16/49. First/second round. (A-33 7/8, H-11 1/8, BP-19, 10-1.65).

Khalil Mack regardless of salary, compensation to get him or any other factor you want to pull out of a hat is an upgrade over every edge rusher in the NFL except perhaps one and that's Von Miller. Everybody else is a weak imitation of an edge rusher compared to Mack. Not sure why that concept is hard to understand.
