If you could only have one…Man, I've been calling it with some of these guys. Anthony Belton, Ozzy Trapilo, Dorian Strong, Hollin Pierce, Aireontae Ersery, Jalen Royals, Darien Porter, Zy Alexander, David Walker, etc.
I feel confident that this is going to be yet another draft where I get at least one good player I want. Hoping beyond hope that that's the case.
Is he playing over Fiske or Turner?Walter Nolen would make the defense elite
I see two problems with that: (1) It feels like a misuse of Nolen's talent unless you're going to let him play an aggressive 1-gapping style, which would require some damn good LBs behind him, and (2) I'd bet we don't play the majority of downs in our base defense. While we can certainly manage a rotation of Turner, Fiske, and Nolen in subpackages, doesn't it feel like a bit of a waste?NT in between them.
Nick Bolton behind him would help.I see two problems with that: (1) It feels like a misuse of Nolen's talent unless you're going to let him play an aggressive 1-gapping style, which would require some damn good LBs behind him, and (2) I'd bet we don't play the majority of downs in our base defense. Not sure. I don't watch the Jets enough to have a useful opinion. His size would worry me because we were gashed so badly as a run defense this year, but some guys play bigger than their size, which requires watching him play to verify (something I haven't done).Nick Bolton behind him would help.
I agree there are better pure 1T type guys and I'm a fan of a few that would likely be there in the 3rd. I just see a guy that is a very capable run defender with exceptional pass rushing skills able to play the 1T though it's not what he's likely to be best at in the NFL and get excited. No chance Grant drops to us and a few other 1T are likely playing themselves into the 2nd round.
Separate question for you, one guy I'm looking at for a mock signing at ILB is Jamien Sherwood. Your thoughts on him?
Forgot where I saw it, but apparently the Jets really want him back and some believe he might follow his DC to Atlanta.Separate question for you, one guy I'm looking at for a mock signing at ILB is Jamien Sherwood. Your thoughts on him?
Like Jrry said he's not the biggest guy but he has good speed can cover and has sideline to sideline ability. I think he can be good at ILB for us. He's a name I saw and like you said Jets fans want him back so he's worth looking into.Forgot where I saw it, but apparently the Jets really want him back and some believe he might follow his DC to Atlanta.
Puka, Jayden Higgins/Jalen Royal/Matthew Golden and Higbee with Mason Taylor/Gadsen/Arroyo/Ferguson/Bringingstool.Just brainstorming, but the depth of this TE class has me wondering about a transition from mainly running 11 personnel to manly running 12 personnel with two quality receiving TEs with one that is at least an average blocker.
If Rams switched from a lineup of Nacua, Kupp, Robinson, and Higbee to a lineup of let's say Nacua, Miami TE Elijah Arroyo, Syracuse TE Oronde Gadsden II and TuTu Atwell wouldn't they be harder to defend?
You're counting a lot on rookie TEs and Tutu. Traditionally, TE is one of those positions where guys take time to acclimate. There are some obvious exceptions, but it's not usually an instant impact position.Just brainstorming, but the depth of this TE class has me wondering about a transition from mainly running 11 personnel to manly running 12 personnel with two quality receiving TEs with one that is at least an average blocker.

Going with the idea that Tutu being a good WR just lacking opportunity and Gadsden II really only being a TE in name alone like he was in college. You're counting a lot on rookie TEs and Tutu. Arroyo, of course, would have to be cleared by the medical staff. I focus on him because guys his size typically don't move like this kid making him a matchup problem which is something the Rams really need on offense and something I've been harping on for some time now. Two years ago it was Gibbs. Last year it was Bowers. This year I think I'm beginning to settle in on this kid as that matchup problem guy.Only thing that scares me with Arroyo is that knee injury. TE feels like it has a good chance to line up for us this year, whether it's at 26 or after a small move down. There are just too many good pass game type options up high this year.
If not then I think Restrepo after a move down is the way. Only complaint with him is the size vs some of the bigger TE type options. But he has more juice. Either way I'd imagine he would be sick in this offense.
And then I think round 3 with Bech is the fallback option. And they may need to position just to be sure at that point.
This btw is all based on the Rams prioritizing the slot.
