Do we draft a RB and a PK in the 5th round or sooner?

Snead claimed they learned from their mistakes of last season when they didn’t address the special teams, including kicking properly, and would make sure not to make that same mistake this upcoming season. So since they haven’t addressed place kicking through free agency, it seems they plan on addressing it through the draft. And if they are truly taking it seriously, they better be planning on proving it by drafting one of the higher rated kickers in the draft, meaning they’d have to draft one in the 3rd round.
As far as running back, since it is such a weak draft for RB’s I can’t see the Rams taking one before the 5th round.

@Merlin and myself think we could pick as high as a Jahmyr Gibbs was taken last year....

Gibbs was one of those rare RBs you say fuck it and take him on the earlier side. When they're a pass catching threat plus can hurt teams on the ground and are a threat to bust any play for a long gainer that's an impact combination. He was the best player on the field for Bama.

I'd be happy with a physical beast of a back though. Just get a change of pace who can mash in the redzone which means those ILBs have to wait that extra second before they get into their drops. Which in the redzone can make a huge difference. This offense was damn near unstoppable when McVay actually gave CJ snaps and carries. What would it look like with Stafford at QB if they had a power back who strikes fear in DBs.

If Rams draft a kicker in the 3rd round with all our pressing needs I’m gonna lose my mind.

I'm out of touch with the incoming draft players so I'm no help with the players

The Rams need a running back as good or better than Willaims. Willaims runs hard which has resulted in injuries. Snead has set up the offense to finally be able to run the ball as well as they have passed it.

The poor FG kicking can't keep going on. Rams need to make a real investment in a FG kicker.

I'm keeping an open mind on the Rams draft. Trading down could be the way they go to fill all the needs. i think RB is equal or greater need than a WB for this year.

I’m sure not advocating a 3rd round pick for a kicker.
But if you want this guy, I’m pretty sure that’s what it will cost

Don't know tons about it, but seems like there are 3-4 draftable kickers, but when I do mocks this is the guy I take, and can get him lower than a 3rd ... Alabama and Arkansas both had guys who seem decent, one of them in 6th would be fine IMO

A RB that high? Don't need to do it. We have a pile of 6th rounders

Well - I know I’ve been wrong a lot of times,but The Rams aren’t drafting a KICKER (100%).

It is so hard to predict how kickers will perform at the NFL level. There is nothing inherently wrong with spending a high draft pick on a kicker IMO. I think it is just that, given the degree of difficulty in forecasting their careers, combined with it being a very unsexy position, no NFL head office wants to take the chance. Remember Roberto Aguayo? I would hate to be the GM that drafts him in the 2nd round. Most analytics buffs agree that an elite kicker is worth enough points/wins that they easily justify a very high draft selection, and in the case of the GOATs, would have a real argument for going 1st overall in many draft classes - Justin Tucker, Vinatieri. Gostkowski, etc.

It will be a crazy day when a kicker with such dominant accuracy and leg stretch comes along that a team takes him in round 1. Surely, it will happen eventually, even if not in my lifetime. I'd love to see the media reaction.

One of the keys, to me, on where they take an RB, was how much they believe Zach Evans progressed last season. If they think he's ready to really step up? 5th round or lower is fine.. if they didn't see progress and don't see him as a legit #2 back, late 3rd is in play.

And kicker is a conundrum.. but I'd absolutely spend one of the late sixth rounders.

I do not care about his leg strength, I want accuracy under 50 yards from my kicker.
From what I’m thinking is The Rams already have 2 kickers from last season they will bring back.
Build on them & consistency ?

I think they go back the basics & don’t over think it.

By Al Davis, so it shouldn’t really count.

Well look at The 9ers !!

LMFAO - dude should have a solid career, but I’d rather be where The Rams are. Just glad dude missed(blocked)the extra point.

If the Rams want a nice RB from this draft, I'm all aboard the Trey Benson train. He's gonna be good and would be what we need with Williams always getting nicked up. As far as kicker goes, not so sure they'll pick one as high as the 3rd as we have to many holes there. Think the 5th is the earliest but I'm just guessing now hahahaha. For kickers, I'd go for Karty

You are correct. I did not realize that! Upon review though, he is pretty clearly an isolated example, and as Londoner mentioned, it was an Al Davis selection to boot which might well provide some of the explanation, so I think my point still stands. I Googled it after because Janikowski sparked my interest; to find other another K taken in the 1st round, you'd have to go back to the 60s and 70s. That's before my time though, and also was a different NFL game.

I'm not saying I agree with this but I suspect Rams see Rivers as their RB 2. They prob won't look to draft more than a developmental guy from the 5th round on and since this RB class isn't that great, it'll probably be a DIV II guy we've never heard of.

I think that's likely but... who knows.

Last 10 years of drafts, first kicker taken, round and total kickers drafted
2013- 5th round Caleb Sturgis, 2 kickers drafted
2014- 7th round Zach Hocker, 2 kickers drafted
2015- None
2016- 2nd round Roberto Aguayo, 1 kicker drafted
2017- 5th round Jake Elliot, 3 kickers drafted
2018- 5th round Daniel Carlson*, 2 kickers drafted
2019- 5th round Matt Gay*, 2 kickers drafted
2020- 5th round Justin Rohrwassser, 3 kickers drafted (Sammy Sloman!!!!)
2021- 5th round Evan McPherson, only kicker drafted
2022- 4th round Cade York, only kicker drafted
2023- 3rd round Jake Moody, 3 kickers drafted
*Hard to say either Gay or Carlson were bad picks, each having good careers just not with who drafted them.
Problem with drafting a kicker is you have to play them, cant carry 2. No time for "development" like every other position.
