Agree with this post 100%.

The "we not me" isn't just a slogan. McVay takes it seriously and is willing to make hard choices to preserve that winning culture.

Love the story about how Woods and Kupp have a friendly weekly competition based on "points", and points for a "good block" are equal to points for a "good catch." Completely unselfish players.

I strongly suspect that McVay had a heart-to-heart meeting with Kupp, Woods, and Jefferson. I bet he asked them to be honest about whether DJax was capable of being a team player. And I bet their answers were a big part of McVay's decision.
On that point, you think there's any chance that his desire for targets made him a less than willing blocker? IDK what his blocking is normally like, but I'm going to bet it wasn't good even during his prime. Now that he's older I bet he doesn't want to block at all. And if he won't block, that's bad news for the run game. And if he can't be used in the run game, then every time he's on the field it's a pass and the defense knows it.

I'm speculating that his lack of willingness to block played a large part in all this.

The last minute talk of being willing to stay IMO was 100% when he realized they were going to wait until after the deadline to cut him and make him go thru waivers. He realized he'd gambled with an empty hand and the Rams called him on it.
That's what his dumb ass gets. If he stayed with us, he would have a better chance of getting a bigger contract in FA by displaying his deep skills further with our awesome QB. Plus a SB ring would help too lol..... Now he's not guaranteed that.

I was hoping DJax would be content with being an important role player for us but we don't need anyone that doesn't want to be here.

More development time for Van, Skow, and Harris

Have to think DJ doesn't make it past Raiders. They just cut Ruggs do to the accident he was in.

The rest of his salary will be paid.

Edit: Maybe not, Raiders have some cap issues and may be even worse if they eat money on Ruggs!

Jackson didn't sign and wouldn't have signed with the Rams to be a reserve. Jackson is healthy, still has speed, and showed early in the season that he could get open deep. It turned out that McVay didn't need him for the offense to succeed and didn't direct plays to him. The situation just didn't work out.

But so what? Why does this make Jackson the fall guy?

Jackson has been a great receiver and competitor. He can still play. Can't blame him for wanting to have the chance to do that while he still can instead of sitting on the bench or playing decoy. Seems to me Stafford wanted out of Detroit in order to have a better opportunity too.
Interesting take. I always enjoy considering things from each side's POV.

Yeah, gotta think that while recruiting DJax to sign, McVay (and others) were emphasizing how much DJax could be an important part of the team. Maybe DJax thought he could beat out Van for the #3 spot, or at least share reps at the #3 spot.

Clearly the coaches decided that Van was superior to DJax, and for whatever reason, DJax wasn't prepared for having such a small role.

A couple of Jourdain snippets:

She said DJax "lobbied McVay for more targets."

She also described it as "a situation that had been escalating behind the scenes."

So does anyone think McVay had some words with him after that ME TD in the Tampa game where he showboated and almost got caught from behind? I have to think Sean didn't think too highly after that play. That might have been the beginning of the end for DJ in our uniform. Did he get much play after that game?

But now that the trade deadline has passed, they can't use any cap savings to sign anyone new (except maybe an unsigned vet or maybe a scrub from another team's practice squad). From a pure $ to talent ratio, doesn't seem to me that waiving DJax helps the Rams much in 2021. And they're certainly not focused on saving $ for the future... clearly they want to maximize every possible asset for a run THIS year.

Just my opinion of course... just sure sounds to me like Rams wouldn't have waived DJax if he was a true team player, he was clearly a valuable asset.

I strongly suspect that McVay had a heart-to-heart meeting with Kupp, Woods, and Jefferson. I bet he asked them to be honest about whether DJax was capable of being a team player. And I bet their answers were a big part of McVay's decision.

This all makes sense to me @XXXIVwin

Lobbying for more targets wouldn’t seem to be a problem, unless he was going about it the wrong way.

(Which is the assumption we are making based on Djax history.)

I wonder how much more we hear? Hmm.

I think the beginning to the end was the long pass that he ran out of bounds because he was gassed. That should have been a TD if he put in a little more effort. Don't let the door hit in the ass on the way out and I hope you get picked up and play for da bears or jets or Giants. Somewhere cold and the team sucks. Plus you will be off our cap.

My thoughts as they were happening on those 2 plays discussed.

The slow down showboating: "Wow awesome.... why is he slowing down? Is he still doing that showboating shit? Err... okay. Touchdown!!"

The gassed run out of bounds: "DeSean!! There he goes!! Why is he slowing down?"

When does your speed guy get gassed? Don't you keep yourself in shape for these moments? Announcers were saying they get it that he may not want to pull something. Why should that be a concern when you're on a breakaway heading for the EZ. Wait, I don't wanna hurt myself so I'll slow down here. A few defenders were starting to gain on him, but I still didn't get it. Kupp would've broke their tackles with his momentum. Never saw a WR slow down like that, never saw one showboat like he's letting the defender get close like that either other than that dude.

DJax had reasons to be upset.
He's also been paid more than 90-million in his career and could've, perhaps, enjoyed being part of what could be a special run. Just a few plays this year on his hometown team would've given him a nice local sports legacy.
Instead? He's wandering for a new gig.
If you're a potential playoff team, why would you bring him in?
I'm pretty sure he's regretting his actions right now, because he blew it.

So he's in waivers now, right? How long does the waivers window last before he's an outright free agent?

Tomorrow afternoon. From what I understand we released him yesterday after the waiver wire time (3pm est) had passed so he essentially hits the waiver wire on today's release list and teams have until 3pm est tomorrow (Thursday) to put claims in on him.

Something strange about the whole thing. Then again, we have seen strange things before that appear to have been "behind the scenes" mysteries with this regime (Gurley, Talib, Peter's, etc).

Almost deserving of its own podcast..... "Only Waivers in the Building".... I like it...

Bummer. So much for all that interest in him. Not a big difference in his Ram contract compared to a minimum salary. Shows that any team that has interest in him is just a maybe type thing and at lowest cost possible- and no urgency. They must be thinking that If someone else gets him, no big deal.
