The extremes are what make this conversation end up in stupid town.

He was fine in the NFC Championship game.. one TD and an 83 rating.
And.. again… Super Bowl.
Coaching matters. Scheme matters. Personnel matters.
My God, you make it sound like every team has McVay & Ben Johnson.my god, you make it sound like those other qbs are on shit teams. listen to yourself.
.
I never said he was “along for the ride.”what's so extreme?
.
Do you…. Remember the game? Had one, jaw-dropping throw to Cooks.ah, he was fine.
ok.

I’ll say what I always say about Goff.. he’s EXCELLENT in an offense that has great structure and protection and can make throws on time.
He is below-average, at best, out of structure.
Herbert plays defense?
Do you…. Remember the game? Had one, jaw-dropping throw to Cooks.
The Rams had to try a 57 yard FG in overtime after the D turned the ball over and the offense couldn’t move the ball, at all.
What are you even talking about?

Yes.Nah this is what you said.
"The idea that Goff lead them to relevance is doing some HEAVY lifting here."
.
You want to call 3 throws a good game? Okay.Is Herbert not even partially responsible for the fact that the Chargers offense produced only an anemic 3 points in the 2nd half of that game? 27-0 at halftime. Lost 31-30 after four quarters.

On that final drive, Goff made two throws to Higbee with defenders very literally hanging all over him that put the Rams in position for that kick. He had the presence of mind in a pressure situation to complete those throws. Before that, he also helped the Rams overcome a 13-0 deficit, and led another drive at the end of regulation to put the Rams in position to tie the game.
These two responses, collectively are textbook examples of what some of us are talking about on this thread. You can't even hold Herbert responsible for failing to get a few extra points to win the game when they have a 27 point lead at halftime, and meanwhile won't give Goff a lick of credit for the clutch way he played in the NFCC at New Orleans. Nothing but excuses for Herbert's failures, little if any credit at all for Goff's successes. Zero logical consistency.

Of course Herbert plays some role. So do his coaches. So does the D.
I’m talking about QB play. Period. End of story, you don’t want to evaluate a guy outside of his offense & team? You go.
lol aren’t you the guy who said you have to look at the throws? He was fine in the NFC Championship game.. one TD and an 83 rating.

Got it. You didn’t watch the game.Do you…. Remember the game? Had one, jaw-dropping throw to Cooks.

I think by now, after 8 years, few minds are gonna change, no matter the evidence.
QBs are vastly overpaid.
You can say that about a lot of QBs that are paid what they are being paid.
The only one that is still active imho that is worth the second or third contract that they got is Mahomes.
Maybe Burrows - all others NO
It's amazing.
I remember after Muhammad Ali regained the heavyweight championship (very rare in those days) by knocking out the seemingly invincible George Foreman. Even after that there were still some die-hard critics who tried to rationalize away his success even when all evidence said the guy could actually fight pretty damn good.
Some people will just hold on for dear life to their preconceived notions, no matter the evidence to the contrary.

I am confused by your analogy. Do you think any of us doubted Goff could have success with an elite roster around him when we literally saw that here?
