My first thought. Detroit is our main competition now and they knew this would give Stafford the ammo to get a raise too, hurting our cap a little. And the Rams will have to do it to keep this train running.
I see Rams agreeing to guaranteeing a big chunk of the remainder of his contract but not adding more $$ to his current contract.

Statistically speaking he was a top 5 or 6 QB? Led his team to the NFCCG? Looks pretty market value if you take off the Goff hating lenses that some will see it through.
And getting to it ahead of Dak and Lawrence will probably look smart.

Agreed.

Also, I watched the replays of the playoff games on NFL network this week and Goff was playing lights out in the playoffs. Two drops by Reynolds, 1 TD drop by Williams and a fumble by Gibbs or the Lions are in the Super Bowl.

We know his limitations but with a top Oline his value to them is worth big money. The Market is what it is.
...and one correctly called penalty when Puka was mugged, then it would most likely be the Rams advancing...

Good for him. He had the benefit of a top tier line, explosive weapons, a good offensive coordinator, two good running backs. And he parlayed it into huge money.

He's got a good supporting cast. Give all 32 starting quarterbacks the same supporting case and system he's easily top ten compared to everyone else. The problem is, if he doesn't have that good supporting cast he becomes closer to bottom half of the league. Detroit's offense is stacked. A guy like Goff will excel with that. I personally think he's a better quarterback than Brock Purdy.

I didn't care for Goff when we drafted him. I really wanted Wentz...well clearly I don't know what the fuck I'm talking about.

I was happy to be rid of him, I didn't like his limitations. But I LOVE seeing him lead Detroit through to resurgence.

Congrats to him. It was well earned. He proved me wrong...I was wrong.

.

The Lions have been paying Goff $25m per year since they acquired him. A bargain.

Now they have to pay the piper.

But if you add his salary this year to the extension it totals $239m over 5 years. That's $48m per year. Fantastic money for Goff but the Lions aren't paying top dollar for him.

I'm gonna laugh when the whiners have to pay purdy more than that to keep him.

I don't think it's impossible to think that he may end up rivaling Stafford in Detroit in terms of their best. He has some very solid years left to do some things to close that gap.

I honestly don't think you have to be wearing "Goff hating lenses" to be blown away by this.
I'm rooting for him and if the Rams can't win, for some reason, I wouldn't mind at all if he did.

Outside of Purdy, I can't think of an NFC QB who has it easier right now.

I've been happy to point out on here that he outperformed Purdy, imo, in that game.. and just had much worse luck than Purdy on that day.

But the next time he shows the ability to succeed when things are breaking down around him will, pretty much, be the first time.

There's no planet, imo, where Goff does what Stafford does in that Super Bowl.. down to one WR.

None of that is "hating".. it's just me thinking that that is A LOT OF MONEY for Goff. Good for him, though.

What annoys me is when Goff was here everyone (pundits and other teams) said he sucks and the media would rag on him all the time. Being dumb about the sun rising.

Now that he’s on lions it’s like he’s treated completely different even though he’s just as good as he was when he was with us.
