I’m pretty sure everyone (including DJax) knew Jefferson was going to get every chance to be WR3. Which put Jackson at WR4. So either the Rams let DJax know they were going to test drive Tutu cutting further into his opportunities and he balked. Or DJax got a taste of WR2 against the Bucs and wants more. Either way I don’t see the Rams as having initiated trade talks with DJax.

Apparently AD99 is still buying it. He wears a sweatshirt with that logo on the back during warmups.

I saw Woods wearing it too, in warmups the week after his big game against Seattle.

So either the Rams let DJax know they were going to test drive Tutu cutting further into his opportunities and he balked.

It feels like there HAD to be a trigger event to bring this on. My assumption is they discussed using Tutu more... informed DJ.

One thing I will say in favor of Jackson... the three receivers in front of him are getting over 90% of the snaps. Why doesn't McVay work him in more? Especially since Kupp has had injury problems. Maybe give the starting three 80% of the snaps. We all know what Jackson can do for this offense. And finally... there goes our depth. And no... I don't count Harris, Skow, or Tutu as depth at this point in their careers.

Given the recent financial moves, like giving Young away for nothin, how far fetched is it to believe that the team is purposefully avoiding the incentives in Jackson’s contract? I mean he’s been pretty productive in the snaps that he’s played, you could see how he would think he should get at least as many and probably more snaps.
The team is trying to do what’s best for their cap but from Jackson’s perspective they’re taking money out of his pocket, of course you didn’t need to be psychic to predict that Tutu wasn’t going to provide much bang for the buck. So you can’t cut Tutu cuz you’ll look like like idiots, so Jax is the odd man out.

For me, pretty far fetched.

If Jackson was the best guy to have on the field, he‘d be out there. Every move this team has made coming into this season was focused toward winning.

I think its just a matter of more productive players are getting the snaps.

Not a huge surprise to be behind Woods, Kupp, and Jefferson however… so hmm?

I dunno. DJax certainly seems to be doing exactly what we hired him to do.... just not getting many chances to do it. Dude should have at least 2 more long TDs if Stafford was better getting the long ball to him.

Agree with everything you said but to add on…that also sets a really bad precedent around the league, we know players talk and it does not look good for incoming FAs if the Rams are giving out contracts and underhandedly trying to avoid paying them. We don’t want that kind of reputation and the FO should be aware if that. So I agree very far fetched

I agree Jackson is doing what he was brought here to do. He wasn't brought here to be a #1, #2 or #3 receiver. He wasn't brought here to have 100 receptions. He wasn't brought here to have 1,000 yards. And he wasn't brought here to score 12 TDs. He was brought here to be a deep threat. Threat. When we need a "threat". In other words, Jackson is being used exactly how we need him to be used. When he comes onto the field, the defense knows and plan accordingly. But he's not happy. To some degree I understand but how about being a vet professional who wants to play on a Superbowl team and just do what's asked of you?

Anybody know the cap impact to the Rams if they can execute a trade rather than an outright release?

I suspect that a trade, any trade, would be substantially better for the Rams.

McVay is playing chess, most other coaches are playing checkers. Some of playing chess better than him, but he'll be the best one day.

My guess is he had DJ targeted for big games down the road when defenses go all out to stop Kupp/Woods. Maybe even saving this for the playoffs if we can secure home field.

I'm hoping Tutu can fill this role, but only the team knows for sure, or they are hoping as well...

If this is the case, it is unfair to structure DJs contract with heavy incentives and have a strategy that doesn't give him touches, IMHO.

From Jackson’s perspective how far fetched is it? No, his role isn’t to be #2 or 3 but he has done exactly what he was brought here for and he easily could have 3 tds. If he had gotten better passes he probably would have several more big plays, I would be thinking that my qb and me need to work out the kinks and this offense could be best in the league but that hasn’t happened.
Has Jackson’s presence had any effect on the other receivers getting open? I don’t know the answer to that. And can his contribution be replaced by someone else or is that even important?

Yeah, good questions.

From Jackson’s perspective those incentives might have meant more to him than what we thought. A lot of time those incentives seem like a bonus.

DJax played in 3 games in '19, 5 games in '20 and the Rams gave him a fairly nice one year prove it deal to compete behind Kupp and Woods with the knowledge that Jefferson was the young #3 being developed. Incentive laden? Damn right it is. He hasn't done squat in 3 years.

If he wants out that's fine but he's not the victim here. He's an injury prone #4 in a stacked room on a good team. From the outside looking in he's in a really good spot IMO.

Maybe DJax has forgotten because he hasn't played in a full season in eight years, but it's a long season. If he was able to remain healthy the touches were going to add up. The Rams could have easily run him into the ground as a PR and putting him in WR formation running up & down the field the last 8 weeks but that wouldn't be smart from a durability standpoint.

Idk. Maybe he feels amazing physically for the first time in forever and called out the coaching staff to start. If you're McV are you going to nerf Jefferson and Higbee's targets to keep DJax happy? No of course not. That's what weak coaches do.

Who cares what Jackson’s perspective is?! The Rams are 6-1, the offense is dominant. Why would they change anything to pacify a bit player like Jackson.

Might be best if they can work it out or go get Brandin Cooks for a 1 yr rental. Need depth.

At this point, even though Jefferson got a ding, trade Djax to Jacksonville or something. Don't allow him back

Depends on the trade. He’s got about 1.5-1.75 mill left, I’m sure the more $$ the Rams are willing to pick up would make him more valuable.
If the Rams want a team to take the rest of the guaranteed money, they can’t be too greedy on compensation
