True. But Dak has also had an elite OL since he became a starter. He's had good protection, and a great run game. THAT is a requirement in the playoffs and what we see with Dalton is the other side of that coin IMO.

I'm not a big Dalton fan btw. But I think he's a serviceable starter. I think if Dallas goes with him they can be just as good as they would have been with Dak.
Dalton always had a good Oline and some pretty good wr/te
I think he’s serviceable but his post season record is atrocious

He would be an idiot not to sign that thing. 31 million??? It's the last fat contract he will ever be offered, imo. I don't think he's worth 10

Too bad the drama is over for now. They should have solved this last year. Earlier the problem was the length with Dak wanting a shorter term of 4 years while Dallas wants at least 5 years. I don't know if he is worth 37.5M a year but, I would want that extra year to give him that amount of money.

I would have been happier to give him 4 instead of 5. Running backs don't have a long shelf life in the NFL.

Man, for the life of me, I cant see how you dont jump at guaranteed 31 mill for 1 season when you've "only" made 2.7 mill in the past 4 years. Just crazy.
He can still sign a long term deal

He had a decent OL for a couple of his seasons, to include his postseason appearances. But Dak has had an elite OL. The difference is significant. Having a strong run game is a massive benefit and IMO a requirement if you want to win playoff games. And that's not even going into the difference of who Dalton had drawing up the plays as outside of the window with Gruden he was in a different class there compared to Dak or many of these other QBs to include Goff.

And btw what irks me is the way Dak gets a pass on all that. Meanwhile our own QB people act like the OL and McVay are the only reasons he had good seasons. Nevermind some other young QBs benefitting from the same, or that many would look worse than Goff did in 2019 behind that same line.

But anyway. Back to Dak I think it's important to consider the strength of the lines he's had. He has had great fortune there.

I think you lost track of our discussion, no big deal. Dalton has shown to be a serviceable regular season QB, even above average at times. But he's been deplorable in the post season. 1 TD and 8 turnovers in 4 games. (2 fumble lost and 6 INT). And he's done this despite having a top OC (Gruden), great recieving core (All pros AJ Green and Gresham) and solid run game (Over 1,700 yards every year). His o-line was more than just decent, having all pro Whit at LT and solid guys in Smith, Boling and Zeitler. So no excuses for Dalton's failure, I wouldnt want him under center for my team in the playoffs. Heck, AJ McCarron had as many "career post season TD passes" in his 1 post season start.
So I surely agree that Dak was dropped in to a perfect situation for a QB, and dont think he's necessarily as good as his numbers indicate. But as far as any idea that his numbers can be minimized while Dalton's can be excused and they somehow equal out? And Dalton comes out ahead even? Yeah that dog wont hunt

My wife is a Cowboy loyalist so I see all of Dak’s games. He’s a poor man’s Russell Wilson in temperament and skill. While most look to the legend of the Poke’s OLine and their many Pro Bowlers, the injuries they’ve sustained at times have cost them repeatedly.

Dak is an above average QB. Like all QB’s, his effectiveness is predicated by the other ten men on his side of the ball. With that said, he’s the best long term option for the team (similar to Goff in that regard). Like they did with Zeke, the Jones crew will posture as long as possible but eventually cave in because...well, they have to do so.

Not so fast, my friend. My best friend (litwrally since birth) works for the Cowboys, and I've even drank a few beers with a pretty high up FO guy. The FO flat out doesn't believe in Dak the way everyone thinks they do. Yeah, they could have handled this better, but I wouldn't be shocked if we move on after this season.

I call BS on this!

We all know Stephen Jones drinks the bottled tears of Cowboys fans!

No shit, ESPECIALLY since he's already made around $50 mil in endorsements. HE IS SET FOR LIFE. Like, the dude could walk away right now and retire, and he'll be fine. It pisses me off he's being such a BITCH about the contract when he's made more than 99% of the U.S. population will ever see in their lifetimes.

What we are witnessing is classic FO indecision. If the FO wasn't sold on Dak why didn't they draft someone behind him in 2019 or even this year? They gave themselves no options. Dalton could have served as a bridge if they had bothered to draft a QB. The only other QB on the roster is a Philly castoff who didn't make the roster after being drafted in the 5th round. Indecision is the worst trait you could have in the FO. This tag on Dak only deepens the pit. If he plays well they are obligated to pay him one way or another. If he doesn't, it's been an expensive year with nothing to show for it. Look at the QBs they could have had this past draft had they traded Dak because they weren't sold on him. Clearly there is no strategic plan for the position. Jerry's getting old.

At least Snead makes decisions and if it's not working he will make a move. Jerry has backed the Boys into a very expensive corner at the most important position on the team. It's apparent that he has no plan B and Dak knows it and is laughing all the way to the bank. The Boys will either have to pay him next year and going forward or start all over again.

I'm sitting here drinking my cold one laughing my butt off. Jerry is getting old and it's showing. They have either wasted $31M this year or put themselves in cap hell for 3-4 years. Prescott was my #3 QB in the 2016 draft. He's played up to expectations. The problem in hickville hasn't been his play as much as problems at HC. This tells me that the Boys can't even evaluate their own players. Dak's a pretty good QB so you either ride with him (i.e. lock him up early as did the Rams with Goff) or move on. The Boys did neither and will pay for their folly for years.

Yeah, I agree. Take the money and run. The Cowboys are in a tough spot. Dak isn't really an elite QB. He's more of a second tier guy. Not worth the money he was demanding. But if the Cowboys let him walk they could do worse. So its quite possible they have to overpay him. I seriously doubt he'll ever lead them to a championship. He had a good line last year. One of the best backs in the league. One of the best receivers. And they went 8-8.

His numbers were pretty good. But at the end of the day there just wasn't enough good plays to win more games. I still can't see why so many are picking them to be a legit Superbowl caliber team. They might be in a weak division but I can't see them beating a good playoff team.

probably because he's been the starting qb for the cowboys for 4 years and they've paid him $2.7m in total. time to pay the piper.
