Yet another good reason why players have contracts and a union...anything can happen anytime. Our new guard Davin Joseph was injured by one of his teammates, Donald Penn, as well. Not a Cowboys fan by any stretch of the imagination but you've got to feel for this guy.

Cowboys fear torn ACL for Sean Lee

As soon as Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee went down in what was supposed to be a non-contact practice today, the vibes coming out of Dallas suggested that he had suffered a bad knee injury. It’s looking like a season-ending injury.

Although Lee has not yet had an MRI and the team has not announced anything official, multiple reports indicate that a torn ACL is the most likely diagnosis. Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Cowboys fear that Lee tore his left ACL, while John Middlekauff of 95.7 The Game separately reports that Lee will likely be out for the entire 2014 season.

Cowboys rookie offensive lineman Zack Martin blocked Lee to the ground at Organized Team Activities. Although it’s not the Cowboys’ biggest concern at the moment, an injury during a non-contact practice may result in an investigation into the team’s practice habits.

The 27-year-old Lee has a long history of struggling with injuries, including tearing his right ACL in college. He has missed 15 games in the last two seasons and has never played 16 games in a season. It’s now looking like he may play zero games this season.

By Martin? Dang...

Lee is the heart and soul of the Cowgirls defense. Only Romo would have been a bigger loss.

Looks like the Rams revenge will come easier. They can't replace him.

Can't help but to feel bad for the guy. At the same time, being the heart and soul of perhaps one of the the worst defenses in the NFL last year probably isn't something he'd want on his resume.

Boy that's a dumb thing to do, glad we didn't trade up for this guy.

It's hard to say if anyone did anything wrong.

But let's face it; there's 90 players on 32 teams running around at OTA's. Unfortunate and freak things are going to happen. Contact or not.

And the first of the torn ACL's has begun. Wasn't there a record number of them last year before the 1st game even kicked off?

On the replay it sure looked like Lee let up on the play, like you're supposed to, and then Martin hit him up high which caused the knee to buckle. Even a rookie HAS to know that this guy is coming off a season ending injury.

Bears WR/KR Domenik Hixon tore his right ACL in Tuesday's OTAs session.

It's devastating news, as it's Hixon's third-career tear of his right ACL. The eight-year veteran hinted in a Facebook post that he's considering retirement. Hixon caught seven passes in 15 games for the Panthers last season, largely focusing on special teams. May 27 - 8:22 PM

Cowboys, Zack Martin will face scrutiny over Sean Lee injury
Posted by Michael David Smith on May 27, 2014

The Cowboys’ chief concern right now is the health of linebacker Sean Lee, who suffered a knee injury at today’s Organized Team Activities. But the Cowboys also need to be concerned about what the league and the NFL Players Association have to say about the circumstances that led to Lee’s injury.

Specifically, the Cowboys could face discipline for the fact that rookie offensive lineman Zack Martin was blocking Lee and ended up on the ground on top of him on the play on which Lee suffered his knee injury. OTAs are supposed to be non-contact, and Martin and Lee clearly engaged with each other on the play, although Lee looked like he was trying to plant his feet and shift directions before he engaged with Martin, so his knee injury may have happened without contact.

Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said afterward that he has given proper instruction to his players about the rules on OTAs.

“We keep preaching, ‘Stay off the ground. Stay off the ground,’” Garrett said, via theDallas Morning News. “That’s a really important thing. Injuries happen when guys hit the ground.”

Martin said he was disappointed to see Lee get hurt.

“I don’t really know what happened, two guys playing hard and running to the ball, so we’ll see what happens,” Martin said. “It sucks to see someone go down. It happens and I can only hope for the best.”

Right now, the severity of Lee’s injury isn’t known. But the Cowboys are fearing the worst.

Official Sean Lee diagnosis coming in the morning

On Tuesday afternoon, Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee injured his knee. On Wednesday morning, the official diagnosis will be known.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, that’s when the Cowboys expect to receive the final word on the aftermath of what may have been Lee’s final practice of the 2014 football season. An MRI was conducted earlier this evening.

The outcome, if it’s season-ending scenario for Lee, highlights one again the reality that: (1) injuries are inevitable; and (2) it’s impossible to know when or where or how they will happen.

Earlier this month, Cowboys executive Stephen Jones said that the team had given no thought to the possibility of moving Lee to outside linebacker from his spot in the middle.

“He’s so good in the middle there and leading the way, leading the defense,” Jones said at the time. “It’s a natural spot for him to work from. Hopefully, we can keep him there and have the complementary guys around him. If he stays healthy, I know it’ll be a Pro Bowl, if not an All-Pro type year.”

In hindsight, some would call that a jinx. Applying foresight, perhaps the Cowboys should consider trying to lure London Fletcher out of retirement. Or Brian Urlacher.

Otherwise, the best available free-agent options are Pat Angerer, Desmond Bishop, and Dan Connor. Or they can hope that someone already on the roster will step up. Or they can try to swing a trade.

Or maybe they can just accept the fact that, no matter how it all plays out, they’re destined to be 8-8.

I hate seeing guys get hurt on any team.

A year and a half is a long time to have to wait to do something you love doing. Especially when you know your career may be only ten years anyway, if you're lucky.

Sean Lee officially diagnosed with torn ACL

Cowboys ILB Sean Lee has been diagnosed with a torn left ACL, and is expected to miss the entire 2014 season.
The poor just got poorer on defense. Had Lee's (latest) injury occurred a month or two earlier in the offseason, he might have been a candidate for injured reserve/designated to return, but there's little reason to believe that will be the case now. It's the second ACL tear of Lee's career, though the first came to his right knee at Penn State. Lee missed significant time the past two seasons with toe, neck and hamstring issues, and has rarely been healthy since high school. He's an All-Pro talent with third-team injury luck. The Cowboys could be forced to turn to fourth-round rookie Anthony Hitchens in Lee's absence. A defense that was the worst in the league last season could be even worse in 2014. Jerry Jones' cap mismanagement has led to an embarrassing lack of depth.

hey @PhxRam. Instead of a countdown, can we get a counter for ACL injuries? I'm curious about the exact number that happen during offseason workouts.

Sad for a very good player and one who seems like a good team mate and person. Hope he heals up quickly even if he is a cowgirl.

I must not be understanding that. I don't think the ground causes injury? It must mean the act of sending someone to the ground causes injury.

Wouldn't be the first time something out of Dallas I don't understand.
