Covid-19 is not the end of the world, and getting hysterical can make things worse.

OTOH, it’s not “no big deal, just like the flu” either. It’s a serious new disease that will wreak havoc for quite a while.

Yelling “apocalypse”? Stupid.
Shrugging shoulders and saying “no biggie”? Stupid.

IMHO the reaction should be very far from either of these extremes.

I can’t tell if you’re joking or not because I have no idea what that * means. So I’ll say this, normal rational prepping doesn’t bother me in the slightest, it’s the irrational prepping like I’m seeing in Portland that does. Mix that with the violent protests that have just died down and yeah, people in a panic in mass groups scare me. I mean, just look at this car lol

I'm not worried about the USA nearly as much as third world nations.

Having enough tp so you don't need to go out and face the public during an emergency is one thing.

Exposing yourself to a crowd to get enough is counterproductive.

Once again - planning in advance is needed.

When I lived in New Orleans, whenever there was a hurricane in the gulf, store shelves would empty. Meanwhile, I would just routinely have enough canned goods that I purchased on sale in advance to last a few days, empty water bottles to fill up, etc and would be comfortable at home and not buying things I wouldn't need in a panic.

The question I have is if a particularly strong strain of influenza would have killed people that are dying from this. We’ll obviously never know but imo it’s a valid question.

Not related to Corona Virus at all but I have put together a kit, a couple of large, sealed storage bins. This was done about a year ago.
About 6 months worth of food, allergy pills, first aid kit, batteries, radio, flash lights, toilet paper (six months), sanitizer, female products, toothpaste, mouthwash, laundry detergent and various other things needed in our house.
I was inspired to do this by watching new about large storms and people being without power. Have had that happen before where I live, years ago, a ton of snow and no power for about three days. It sucked. But, could just get to the store because it only a small area affected that badly.
Still, made me think. Better prepared.
Plus, I hate running out of stuff. Would rather have all the cleaning items stocked up all the time anyway.
Should get a small generator and a pistol or two as well.
Simple and done over time is not expensive at all.

I was inspired to do this by watching new about large storms and people being without power. Have had that happen before where I live, years ago, a ton of snow and no power for about three days. It sucked. But, could just get to the store because it only a small area affected that badly.

Going through Irma was tough on a lot of people, I had a friend that was without power for IIRC 11 days. I was out for 6 IIRC. Some people were out two weeks or more.

I had no "hurricane kit" and neither did he. It wasn't easy for me and even worse for him.

Another thing one doesn't think about is getting cash. Without power you can't use a debit card anywhere and banks can't operate. So you have to have cash.

We don't know.

Yes, being outdoors and more sun helps to kill virii. But this is novel. In addition, since there is a lack of immunity, that has to be factored in. And of course, the southern hemisphere will be hosting it too. But I'd guess the lack of immunity will keep it going in the US, even if it gets slowed down in the Spring.

If it's like the Spanish Flu of 1918, it will slow down then explode again when conditions are right, before immunity exists.

I was thinking. If my wife and I got stuck on a Cruise ship in a 10x13 cabin and had to be quarantined for 14 days in that cabin, one of us isn't going to make it.
