This is depth at G/C, which was a need. He has started games for us before.

That is good depth

Per PFF 2024:

Shelton:
66.7 overall - 68 pass, 66 run.

Limmer:
57.6 overall - 42 pass, 66 run.

It’s good depth and competition.

Though I would have preferred Dalman.

Vet insurance Ike Shelton is a smart move but I think he will have to really compete to earn a roster spot. All 4 second year interior guys offer better upside.

If it’s only for depth, I’m okay with it. Not too much since there’s still Dedich and McMahon to consider, but it’s okay.

If he’s a starter, though? Nooo thanks.

Not sure why they would do this. There are some decent options and picking someone late in the draft would be a better long term solution.

But WTF do I know?

Welcome back Shelton!

How valuable is the experience you gain from bad play for years?
I don't agree with 'bad play' as an appropriate description. Little too harsh in my opinion.

Instead, I would describe Shelton as a smart, experienced but physically limited NFL center. Average starter.

Shelton is under-sized but so are Dedich and McMahon. Shelton was good enough to start on a 2023 playoff team; and was the top-reserve interior-OL on a Lombardi-winner.

I am hoping that Limmer wins the starting-center role, and Shelton is a veteran reserve; and a positive mentor to three or four second-year OL (if you include Leveston).

Finally, I can't easily forget the mental fuck-up on that 3rd an three Jalen Carter sack.

I would prefer the Rams triple-team the opponents Best-DL and let someone else a free rush. The Eagles did not show blitz, did not send a blitzer and did not run any stunts or games. Limmer turned-left (where Avila did not need help) and Dotson turned-right (where Havenstein did not need help) and Carter ran right through the Huge opening.

Which is exactly why we shouldn't have signed him and upgraded from the other two in the draft.

I see several posts about how Shelton had a better PFF grade in a category or two. Should we be impressed that a 6 year vet beat a rookie in one category? Sorry Shelton doesn't and hasn't ever moved the needle. This seems like a settle not an inspired signing.

This is a depth signing, it has to be, which tells us they trust that Limmer will improve year two.

Yeah, we're not far apart on this. I'm not thrilled with the signing either ... especially if the $ is high. However, when the cap space diminishes, teams may need to 'settle'.

As far as 'up-grading ... in the Draft', the Rams have one pick in the top-90; and just four in the top-190.

Don't need one of those picks. Limmer himself was pick 217.

Jonah Monheim C USC projected anywhere from late 5th to UDFA
Mose Vavao C Fresno St (guard versatility) 6th to UDFA
Drew Kendall C BC 7th to UDFA

Just those 3 all over 6'3" in the 305+ range thick and easy targets.

Yes he was ... an excellent pick that late ... not many of those ... fingers crossed for more

Any may be available and good ... hope so; and hope the Rams get that guy ... again, fingers crossed.

The Rams 2024 6th round selections looks terrific, with Davis, Karty, Whittington and Limmer. Hope for more success in late-April. However, taking a look at the Rams' 6th and 7th round picks from 2017-2023, they hit (on useful players) about one-third of the time, That's actually pretty good.

Coleman Shelton is not that good. Caleb Williams was the most sacked QB and Shelton gets bull rushed constantly.

Bad signing. Let see if he makes the roster after the preseason games.
