Which is exactly why we shouldn't have signed him and upgraded from the other two in the draft.

I see several posts about how Shelton had a better PFF grade in a category or two. Should we be impressed that a 6 year vet beat a rookie in one category? Sorry Shelton doesn't and hasn't ever moved the needle. This seems like a settle not an inspired signing.
I agree that it doesn't seem like an inspired signing. Part of the problem is the free agent class and the draft class are weak at center. I'm unsure how many options they have, but Limmer needs competition.

Hoping for an open competition with Limmer, Shelton, McMahon and whoever might be drafted, signed or an UDFA at C.
Would like to see the terms to see if it implies he was signed to start or compete.

He is being brought in as a mentor and veteran depth. We have two 2nd yr centers. They need a vet to lean on.

Welcome back, Coleman
To that same old place that you laughed about
Well, some of the names have changed
Since you hung around
But those dreams have remained
And they've turned around
Who'd have thought they'd lead you
(Who'd have thought they'd lead you)
Back here where we need you?
(Back here where we need you?)
Yeah, we tease him a lot
'Cause we got him on the spot
Welcome back
Welcome back, welcome back, welcome back

We'll see what he's being brought in for. I don't view Limmer as so good that he's automatically the starter. I think there will be a competition to see who starts. At any rate, we improved the depth for sure.

Not really a great fit for our bigger more physical OL direction but he is a solid depth guy, can start and may help Limmer, who needs a lot of work.

Don't get the Shelton signing, but McVay is probably still annoyed about the missed blocking assignment at the end of the eagle game.

He and Limmer are only 8 pounds different. I don't think either of them match the offensive line really.

Not sure why they would do this. There are some decent options and picking someone late in the draft would be a better long term solution.

But WTF do I know?

Welcome back Shelton!
100% some good options late in this draft. I pray we grab some, at least one swing LT and one c/OG and train them up.

I like if if the money is right. We lost Jonah Jackson, so we could use some depth at C again, and you can never have too much competition. I just hope we are not paying him starter money. Limmer messed up at the most crucial times vs. Philly. But he was decent overall last season. He was also a rookie. He is cheap, young, and improving. I didn't mind Shelton when he was last in horns, but to me, he was no better than Limmer. And since last being in LA, he has gotten older, so if anything he might have declined, whereas Limmer should be ascending. Chicago fans were not happy with Shelton. That is never a good sign, but scheme etc. can make such a difference, I also would not read into it too much.
