Agreed, plus New England just made a significant trade with the Browns last year giving them Jamie Collins.

Belichick liked Jimmy Garoppolo and did not want to send the kid to that mess in Cleveland, plus IMO, they wanted to trade him out of the conference as well. Belichick respected the regime in San Francisco with John Lynch being the GM, who played for New England and they felt combined with Kyle Shanahan, that was a better opportunity for Garoppolo so that is why he's now in San Francisco and will be a thorn in the Ram side for many years to come.

Jets officially promote Jeremy Bates to offensive coordinator

The Jets confirmed a couple of changes to their offensive coaching staff on Wednesday.

As reported in January, Jeremy Bates has been promoted to offensive coordinator in the wake of John Morton’s dismissal. Bates joined the team as quarterbacks coach last year and will continue to hold those responsibilities while taking on the coordinator role.

“Jeremy is a talented coach who has a sound understanding of what it takes to build a successful offense,” Jets head coach Bowles said in a statement. “Having spent last season with us, he offers continuity and has a good sense of what we need to do to improve. I look forward to him working together with our offensive coaches.”

The Jets also formally named Rick Dennison their offensive line coach and run game coordinator. Dennison was let go as the Bills offensive coordinator last month and worked with Bates on the Broncos staff a decade ago.

The Jets also announced that Steve Jackson has been hired as the team’s assistant defensive backs coach. Jackson worked with the Titans in the same capacity the last two seasons.

Got excited for him for a brief second until I realized it wasn't him.

Report: Eagles to name Mike Groh offensive coordinator

The Eagles are filling their post-Super Bowl vacancies in-house, and have apparently settled on which way they’re going.

According to Tim McManus of ESPN.com, the team has decided to promote receivers coach Mike Groh to offensive coordinator.

Of course, it’s a largely ceremonial job, since head coach Doug Pederson calls the plays.

But after coordinator Frank Reich left to become the Plan B head coach of the Colts and quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo was allowed to leave to become Minnesota’s offensive coordinator (who actually gets to call plays), there was some shuffling to be done.

The Eagles also interviewed running backs coach Duce Staley for the coordinator job, and they are expected to move Press Taylor to the quarterbacks coach post.

Good promotion, I expect him to Groh like Shurmur did in Philly and Minny. Fisher and Fox were terrible coaches to coach under

Josh McDaniels will skip combine

Josh McDaniels might find things awkward in Indianapolis. That is if the Patriots offensive coordinator was going to the Scouting Combine.

McDaniels and the Patriots will not attend the combine, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports. Bill Belichick and some of the team’s defensive staff will go.

Rapoport said that follows the Patriots’ “standard plan” when New England goes deep into the postseason.

McDaniels, of course, left the Colts at the altar after agreeing to the job and then rescinding to remain in New England.

Coward, face the music for what you did. Just another reason to despise him and his team.

I'm telling you, OldSchool, I think the Colts are going to be very happy with Frank Reich as their HC and will look back at the McDaniels fiasco with a sigh of relief for dodging a major bullet.
They may even send McDummy a box of chocolates and a dozen roses for NOT taking the job and causing them to lose out on a class act like Frank Reich.
(heh....I just used the word 'class' and McDaniels in the same sentence....prolly last time that ever happens!!)
