First of all it's just a great listen but the part that seemed interesting to me is that Mcvay seemed to indirectly lay a lot of the issues on offense this Sunday on Goff.

He often iterated and reiterated :
-You have to know that if they're bringing more than we can cover, where is the hot routes, who is the free man, where should the protection slide?
-he went out of his way to acknowledge that it wasn't the offensive line , ("the offensive line played winning football today. People saw Goff getting pressured and thought it was the line but it was the other instances that caused is to not execute. )
-says that they KNEW the cover 0 was coming and they prepared for it but "just didn't execute".
- "there are certain guys that I expect to play at a higher level (and I expect that from myself as well)

I know the Goff discussion is getting old (hence the warning) but it's definitely becoming more apparent that something just might not be clicking

I always wonder about the Hot Routs (Blitz beaters). I wonder if they don't exist in this offense, or we just don't execute them. I would also love to see Goff Pump Fake every once in a while. While we are at it, I wouldn't mind the surprise draw play on occasion.

When McVay was asked what Goff needs to do better he said “urgency and preparation”

He didn’t play with urgency. And he didn’t prepare himself well enough to deal with what was coming at him. He sees 6 guys rushing him and he knows he only has 5 guys blocking. Hello! Get your head out of your rear end Jared.

McVay said he needs to do a better job of not putting the team in a position where they will make mistakes. In other words, if he puts Goff in a position to make mistakes, Goff will surely make them.

After 5 years, McVay can’t trust Goff to not make mistakes in difficult situations.

Not really sure what the Rams can here, but they need to stop trading first round picks moving forward.

I saw some stills and clips on twitter where it looked like shorter routes were in them. And Mcvay specifically pointed out that you beat cover zero with hot reads. I suspect they were in the gameplan.

*sigh*

I don't get the Goff bashing, I really don't. Yes, he played like shit during the Dolphins game, I'm not gonna deny that. But he literally just turned twenty-six. He's not in his prime yet, and he's had some very good games against good opponents.

Maybe Goff is okay but we have to do a better job accepting who he is. There was some talk about this yesterday. He's more Matt ryan than Tom Brady. Get him some dogs at receiver. Maybe just one more guy. Even an allen Robinson type.

Absolutely zero bashing in my post though. I was just pointing out what Mcvay himself said. Also, some of the things Goff struggles with feels like something a qb in year 5 would at least be better at. Not saying he needs to be elite. That's just my opinion though. I'm a couch football fan.

I agree with it all. Proof of McVay needing to scheme to keep Goff from making mistakes is the half time adjustments with more screens and getting away from the run too soon against a team that can't stop it. Empty backfield was not working, hot read or no hot read. By now McVay needs to know what Jarred's weaknesses are because defenses will look to exploit them.

Goff apparently is not the best at pregame preparation either. That really sucks since he's getting paid to do his job well, not half way.

I'll never understand why coaches wait until halftime to change schemes. McVay has an OC and since Sean is calling plays he should get McConnel working on choosing a new strategy to combat what defenses are doing.

Lastly, wtf is this team and coaching staff still struggling with how to beat the same defense that they have had trouble with for two years?

Goff's first year was under Fisher, who never developed him. I'd say four years. I see your point, but let's not forget how young he still is.

Some people are touchy here when mentioning anything negative about Goff Its not bashing but critiquing and having some concern. We all want Goff to succeed. I think he was the right pick instead of Wentz. The Rams have been putting faith in him basically mortgaging picks for talent now so if he gets worse, we are in for a set back.

He's being paid to play at a higher level but not living up to it. If he was still on a rookie contract I could understand the irritation with some of you on the "bashing" but hes not.

Him still being so young his where I bank all my hope haha I just hope that we're still a good roster by the time he gets fully there

Sounds like Goff isn't getting enough (or the right) 1 on 1 coaching.

Goff has already proven himself as capable of taking coaching. They need to drill into his deficiencies. If Goff doesn't handle certain pressure well or his trajectory is too low or he struggles knowing his hot routes - that's what his QB coach should be working on with him.

Let's be real though - Goff is inconsistent sometimes but sundays game was about more than Goffs inconsistencies and mental errors - McVays offense was totally sniffed out. They were on everything at times.
Thats surely not helping his QB avoid mistakes. So in a game where DL are picking slants, and every pass is anticipated and deflected... eventually the QB will just fuck up on his own.

Hey QB coach - work on pump fakes and hot reads - signed Jared Goff and Rams fans everywhere.

Yeah I think that's the thing for me. I was arguing that Goff was better than Mahomes in 2018 lmao so it's not that I don't like him

Mcvay would be smart to draft a QB next year. Sounds like Goff isn't putting in the work that he needs to in order to be that elite talent. Sometimes drafting a guy will push him to become better.
Look at A Rodgers
Is our roster good enough to use a decent pick on one? I'd personally rather double down on Goff for now

Yes our roster is good enough. We have a too 5 defense. And our offense is fine, not saying to pick someone in the first round. But make it known that you now have some competition. Draft someone smarter than Goff. Goff is obviously fluffing off when it comes to knowing what he's seeing on the field. He has the physical talent that's obvious
