Lose Matthews on the other side so Ebukam or Obo is a downgrade there.

Yeah, I'm not so sure about that. About all Matthews has on those guys at this point is experience. And Ebukam is better against the run.

Man I feel bad for AD right about now. We lose both starting OLBs, Fowler is better than Floyd so we downgrade there technically. Lose Matthews on the other side so Ebukam or Obo is a downgrade there. No starting ILBs with NFL experience after losing a play maker in Littleton.

We lost all that on defense all while not improving the o-line at all. Wow wow wow

Dont feel sorry for AD, his monster contract is partly why theres a dearth of talent round here.

We have a lot of guys to replace. Hopefully, the young guys can step up.

Oh please. Matthews is an aging veteran near the end of his career with limited value. If that's a clown show, then get me some floppy shoes and a red nose.
I dont have a problem with this move. The problem is his previous moves is gutting our team to be razor thin.

We still have cornerstones to build around. You simply can't pay everybody. There was no way we could keep Fowler, Littleton, Brockers, and Gurley, especially with AD's contract and Ramsey's coming up - with Kupp and JJ waiting in the wings next year.

i Don't know Fowler is better than Floyd, Fowler was riding the bench when we brought him over. Sooooo who's to say? The rams obviously have a plan freeing up some cap room for a big list of needed FA's next year. Plus people we need ot sign this year.

We also can't pay an RB 14mil a year to get 15 carries a game. Sorry that just doesn't compute.

Not talking about Todd at all. Knew that was going to happen, the writing was on the wall.

Fowler is a bit better than people are giving him credit for, he was very good for us last year. I dont think Floyd is AS talented but maybe.. I'd still give the edge to Fowler. I'm talking about the overall structure and talent of our starting roster + depth next year. We lost talent at both OLB positions, when Matthews was on the field he was pretty solid, I will say at DT we came out even with the Robinson signing. But losing Corey Littleton when you already have a gaping hole at ILB. People dont remember how horrible Reeder was last year for us. Complete liability in coverage due to his movement, he got picked on constantly on 1st and 2nd downs. While Littleton was not good in the run game, he was very very good in coverage. He made a lot of big plays for us last few years. LBs are extremely important in a 3-4 and our ILB position is a complete joke now. Combine the ILB talent with the new OLB starting talent, and the overall depth of our interior DL. Who is going to win consistently when AD is double and triple teamed? We need someone else that can win their 1 on 1s frequently and we dont have that IMO.

I really think this is McVay executing a plan that he thought he'd be executing in 2018.

In an honest moment, I doubt even he thought "we'll be in the Super Bowl next year" when he took over. We caught lightning in a bottle, and we seized the moment - or as everyone and their mother said, went "all in" - well now we're at a cross roads where we have some pieces but need to re-tool.

That aging veteran got 8 sacks last year and missed time with a broken jaw.

Floyd on the other hand had 7 sacks the last 2 years and started all 32 games.

This is a trash move. Very disappointed in this move.

Floyd was also dropped into coverage a significant amount of the time, which reduced his sack numbers. And he's better against the run.

Matthews ran himself out of so many plays with his undisciplined pass rush first mentality, and never set the edge. He killed us in the run game, and was especially brutal in the first Seattle game, allowing Wilson to escape time and time again.

I'll take our chances with the young talent. YMMV.

Yeah? Where’s the stats to show his coverage? Spend 10 million on a bum and release Matthews. Nah.. horrible move.

Well, you're the guy who wanted to trade Goff to the Dolphins, cap hit notwithstanding, and then draft a Russell Wilson type because they grow on trees. I'll take your opinion with a grain of salt.

Matthews was awful this year. Don't let the eight sacks fool you; he was atrocious in the running game, constantly lost contain, and when he dropped into coverage, he failed miserably. Oh, and he cost us a compensatory pick by his signing.

Rams needed the cap space, that is what happens this time of year. Is the player worth the contract.

Not that that has to do with us trading for a PFF rating DE of 69.8 and paying him 10 million dollars.

And Yeah and so the hell what? Goff isn’t a 35 million a year QB. He is very inconsistent and off on his throws, especially under pressure.

i can use the same B.S. you used on me.

okay we let Matthews go, what do you we do then?

That was exactly what I was gonna say, word for word.

Rams are gonna defend the run moving forward.

So Matthews worth letting go over a Floyd who is just about ranked as bad and paying him 2.5 the amount we pay Matthews? Really?

Ever heard of Obo (hint: he's a guy we drafted for that role)? Ever hear of Ebukam (same as previous)? What about that Polite guy who we took a nearly risk free flyer on?

Young players can get better with more experience. And old players like Matthew do decline with age. And I'll trust Staley's judgment over yours. He wasn't brought in to keep everything the same as last year.
