I take Stafford over Burrow and Hebert. I prefer the veteran with his years of NFL experience to go along with his arm talent. I don't see Burrow nor Herbert faking safeties out with no look passes.

Ridiculous. Just when I want to think he's gaining credibility by dropping Brady down he puts Burrow and Herbert ahead of Staff?
The same Herbert who couldnt beat the Houston Texans in order to make the playoffs?

Simms did a good job overall, but was incredibly lazy in his top 8.
Simms decided that the top 4 would be the young ones and 5-8 would be the vets.

simms pushed Aaron Rodgers as MVP and drops him to #5.

says that his rankings are for 2022 only. Just lazy

Sure is a lot of crowning going on with Herbert in the media. If it is just for this year seems to me prioritizing the kids is kind of dumb but this is Chris Simms we're talking about.

Not really sure how qbs rank better with worse seasons, stats, career stats. But who am I to say otherwise? This is all opinion based anyway.

Ain’t just Simms.
Sure, there’s a lot of hype… but watch the tape & look at the numbers… he’s exceptional… especially for his age. The combination of big plays and minimal bad plays is wild.

One of the constants I see in this thread is tying team wins to a QB.

That is not a QB stat and IMO if you are ranking players has no place in the discussion. It’s not like they have the same circumstances surrounding them.

Even completions has to factor another player in when looking at QBs.

One of my favorites, how do they perform under pressure. That could be literal pressure, taking hits or on blitzes or game situations.

I know even that can be skewed because some of these guys have been in what we might think are pressure situations.

FWIW, I don’t like a bunch of the placements Simms has listed. But, he gets paid to do it so WTF. I’m just a fan.

So he has Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, Burrow, and Rodgers over Stafford. Fair list at the top. You could definitely make a reasonable argument for it.

I'd definitely take Stafford over Rodgers. Rodgers is the opposite of Stafford. Complains a lot. Shrinks in the big game. Me-first. Afraid to take risks at the expense of his personal stats.

Is this list as of today, or also taking into account future longevity?

Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, and Burrow are all clearly better picks than Stafford if you are keeping in mind the anticipated number of playing years a QB has left.

As of today, I'd take Stafford over Burrow by a hair. He did just best Burrow in the Super Bowl, with way less weapons no less once OBJ went down, but to be fair Burrow was under complete duress from our defence. Herbert and Stafford I have as a toss up. I'd rank Mahomes and Allen as #1 and #2.

Top 3 QBs named Simms:
1. Phil Simms
2. Matt Simms
3. Chris Simms … unless anyone can think of another guy named Simms who once threw a football.

Yeah and Burrow was under duress by everyone tbh. Also agree on your Rodgers take. He's a selfish prick. Great QB but still a prick.

I'm going to really enjoy this year's AFC playoffs. So many young QBs that will be duking it out for their legacies, you have Mahomes, Allen, Burrow, Herbert all positioned to be in that mix. It's really gonna be something. I can't recall the last time a conference playoffs had that many good young QBs who are ascending like that.

Could be Jackson, Wilson, Carr and Tannehill with Allen

I don't think Jackson has long term upside. He's capped by his speed of reading and recognition. As his legs degrade with age I expect him to fade.

Carr's a really interesting one though. He might finally have the kind of offensive mind now in his corner to really show what he can do. He made some big strides last year.

Wilson yes you're right he's very much in that mix. Not sold on his new coach but that roster has a hell of a defense which yeah probably means they're in things.

Tannehill's scrappy and competitive but he's the kind of guy that needs a top-notch team around him and even then it might not be enough. I kind of have him with Jackson, where I just don't see him being the guy to get the hardware barring a rare team around him and that is unlikely in the AFC field. There's just so many good rosters.

I agree with a lot of your take. I do think wins can't be completely ignored nor can playing under pressure be graded on a linear curve.
Accumulative trauma and or pressure on a QB can have a direct impact on the way they attack the game leaving some at a disadvantage.
I love that you are digging deeper and it is that thought process that led to me ranking Herbert over Burrow, whether one agrees or not is another thing but I came to that conclusion using much of the spirit of what you laid out.
