Well... Chargers have been a two hour drive from LA for the past 56 years... in a salary cap league, "deep pockets" from an owner don't really make a huge difference... and the Rams kinda drove away fans with last year's showing.Rams have more history in LA.
Rams have an owner with far deeper pockets.
Rams arrived a year earlier.
Only way that Chargers get a leg up on Rams is if the product on the field (ie W-L) is vastly superior for Chargers.
As that won't happen, there is nothing to worry about.

You are absolutely right that whichever team shows on-field success first will have a huge leg up on the other. The good news is that the Raiders are not in LA, and that the Chargers have been boring and mediocre since time immemorial.
No way bro, they're waiting to reveal their next big marketing thing: a re-recording of the "San Diego Super Chargers" song starring Philip Rivers and Joey Bosa as the dancers. It will have two impacts: one, it will be the most awkward group of NFL players dancing together since the Super Bowl Shuffle; and two, Keenan Allen will tear his ACL during the shoot. The Chargers have fans ?
I think we've just seen their entire marketing plan, and the budget is now exhausted.
