I honestly don't see the point of having Ramsey playing the star position other than making him happy because he was getting bored.

There's no way you can tell me that his most effective role isn't locking down and eliminating the other team's best receiver as a shutdown corner.

I'm not usually one to overreact after a loss and I do think a lot of our issues in the game yesterday were caused by early turnovers and getting behind the scoreboard.

The O will be fine but for the love of God run the ball Sean. This is year 5 of completely abandoning the run when it's working well. Hendo looked unstoppable yesterday. Ride it until they take it away and stop out smarting yourself.

D was hard yesterday. Murray will make a lot of good players look stupid. I think you need to spy a guy like that on every down. And have Ramsay one on one on Hopkins. If we lose because Long cant cover a geriatric AJ Green then so be it.

Go back and draft a run stuffing LB instead of Atwell. He won’t contribute anything this year. Still don’t understand the logic of that pick.

Stafford seems to have a weak arm when throwing long to DeSean Jackson. They need to fix that and get some deep threat going.
I'm not sure that's the problem tbh.

It's not that the ball to Jackson barely got there or was looking like a duck which would suggest it's an arm strength thing. I think he either hasn't got used to the pace of Djax, or it was just underthrown through poor judgment.

It's truly asinine. I can see it against teams that are heavy run teams or like to throw lots of short passes, assuming there is no top WR to lock down. But against the Hopkins, Metcalf it is truly stupid. Against the Niners Lions, or Giants yea. Some of our upcoming games may warrant it. I also wonder about the injury risk making him so involved in tackling like a linebacker and the risk of him losing his reps for covering on the outside making him a little rusty when he's expected to do it all game in a later game.

Exactly. Go back and read the conversations and threads. Everyone was so busy riding the high of last minute heroics in the redzone by the defense they overlooked the fundamental problems the Rams have.

The sad thing here is that IF the offense hadn't turned it over 2x and had finished their own drives we would have had a great chance to win. But going forward the offense is not my concern.

Even if/after they sit Rapp it's gonna be a week too late at least. Morris talks a tough game but is he really a guy who holds his players accountable? We're gonna see. I'll say this... IF we see them trot Long and Rapp out there again Seattle is going to have a fucking BBQ in our secondary. It'll be like a fucking pig roast.

Interesting point about Seattle. Having Ramsey and Williams on Metcalf and Lockett had us hold them to 16, 20 and 13 points last year.

Im fine having Long on Swain. But if he ends up on the other two.....I'll officially lose trust in Morris

This is more or less what I'm feeling.

I like the idea of Ramsey being in the star position to impact plays more, but when you're going against one of the best receivers in the league and you have one guy who can follow him and cover him, that's where he's best used.

McVay has a bad habit of getting away from the run, sometimes I think he outsmarts himself. Getting down into the redzone while ripping off 6-7 yard runs and then going to a bunch of passes just doesn't work. This has been a consistent thorn in our side, he needs to get someone in his ear (hello, OC?) to say "Hey, Sean, calm the fuck down and run the fucking ball here" especially if your QB is off.

Giving Stafford easy completions to slowly drive down the field may have been better than just having him try to rip these huge chunk plays. I didn't watch the second half, but based on the previous three games I feel like we're underutilising Woods a bit, he's dangerous in the run and screen game, when we've fallen behind in games previously he's been a big part of pulling the team out of their slump, yet it feels like we're going away from that.

I've said since week 1 that Rapp does not belong in coverage. And apparently the dude forgot how to tackle; he ends up on the ground empty more often than not.

I'm on board with @Memphis Ram Burgess & Rochel in Rapp & Long out. Also Ernest Jones in, Troy Reeder out. And for heaven sake Morris, be aggressive.

Frankly, this defensive scheme has not been effective all season. If changes are not made to this scheme , more loses are coming. McVay in a way reminds me of Vermil, in that he tries to be friends with his players and coaches and fails to use a business approach, to the game.

I think that he is supposed to be the next Desean Jackson. But then we went out and got the real Desean Jackson.
I agree, Any other position on the defense or the Oline would have helped more.

People around these parts got real defensive when I called it a wasted pick.

Thats fine. Get defensive. It was still a wasted pick.

It was a luxury pick I guess.
Pretty sure they had other pressing needs. Time will tell

Your wording is better than mine. Wasted pick could be tagged to a bad player. Thats not the case as far as we know. Luxury pick doesnt infer anything to do with the player.
Was the pick, not the player.

I agree that Ramsey should be the lock down CB on the teams big receivers like Hopkins Metcalf and TB's receiver.

Not all teams have these type of receivers and have him play the star position for those teams.

Let Long be the slot CB and Rapp be the Run Stopping Safety (forget what it's called atm)

Let's use our strengths and not do this Bend but not break defense.

We could be doing so many more stops on 3rd down than we are because of it.

And for the life of me - I could not understand why McVay did not run more. Henderson was killing it out there. Was he worried that Henderson would get hurt again?

1. Put Ramsey on elite receivers ALWAYS.

2. Devise strategy to get Rapp closer to LOS.

3. Play more man coverage, throw away soft zone schemes.

4. Start using our rb's as receivers.

5. Stop using obvious play calling like Jackson going deep.

6. If we are going jet sweep, use players like Atwell or Jackson who can to the edge QUICK.

7. Make sure Woods and Stafford work overtime on getting in sync.

8. Throw away screen plays.

9. Get rid of the panic mentality when behind in games. If the run game is working, continue with it until they adjust. We don't need multiple td's in 5 minutes to get ahead and win games that are still in the first half.

Worst thing a team can do is knee jerk react after a bad loss. You get back to work on what made you a good team. Have everyone look in the mirror and ask themselves if maybe they took this game for granted. The Cardinals have a good team now. A real contender for the playoffs at least. Could be more. All McVay has to do is get these guys to stop listening to all the media talk about how great they are. No one is that much greater than everyone else in the NFL.

I don't expect any huge changes. But adjustments. Need to get away from that zone coverage, Staley played a lot of man coverage because that's what DW and Ramsey excel in. Morris however isn't calling coverages that his players are best suited for. Which is what good coaches do. It's the old square peg round hole technique. We've been here before and now we're doing it again. Not blaming mcVay for it, there's only so many times you can hire excellent DCs, every once in awhile you're gonna hire a flop. I expect mcVay to get more involved w his defense because if he doesn't it's gonna be a long season.
Same thing on offense, when the defense is dropping 7 into coverage and you're trying to force it...He should know better.

Replace Rapp with Burgess
Replace Long with Rochell
Play man to man defense instead of zone.
Establish the run early and often
Help Stafford to realize that Kupp isn’t our only good receiver, including running more screen plays, and passes to the running backs
Run more sweeps with Woods and Tutu

Well adjustments need to be made for sure... big changes could come on the defensive end if things don't improve.

The fact that our defense is struggling is not surprising - we have all these big contracts that we need to get lucky with lower talent guys.

our secondary losing jj johnson and troy hill has hurt - we thought burgess would play but Rapp has and he has not shockingly struggled where we thought he would.

Then you lose brockers who had some good quickness for his size... not to mention a couple others.

And then we lose our prodigy at D-coordinator.

it's not shocking how our defense has regressed - but we need to figure it out quick.
