Why was Turner let go in Minnesota?

I haven't heard the entire story. Last I heard, Zimmer was surprised by Norvs' resignation.
Btw. Bradford looked better than he ever had with Norv. Even without AP.

The rumor floating around is that Turner and his wife want him to take a College coaching job. I think people said it was Oregon. He wanted less stress and to be closer to home.

I don't buy that story. Having to get on the recruiting trail and appease the board and boosters, what not is not an easy jump if he hasn't done it before or in a long while. Ask Bill O'Brien. He hated that part of the job.

Being a suspicious person, I immediately thought he was getting out of Minnesota to join Fisher at the end of the season. Why do it so soon? Maybe he felt it was a no win situation and didn't want the stress of it? Maybe he figured why bother if he already has a new gig awaiting him? Maybe he is getting to work early on the Rams offense by studying their games. Maybe he just didn't like working for Zimmer, buddies or not.

That being said, I prefer Greg Roman.

Turner quit on his team in the middle of season.

Unless it was for a health reason that is now resolved, I would not consider him in the mix.

I also doubt it makes much difference who the OC is under Fisher.

That person will be handcuffed and straight jacketed just as all the others have been.

I don't want Norv Turner or Greg Olson. Both guys are gone from their teams for a reason. Roman is acceptable. I'd also be interested in Mike McCoy and Ken Whisenhunt at OC if the Chargers clean house.

I think Zimmer pushed him out. Turner wouldn't adapt to his players in Minnesota. He kept trying to run a vertical passing game with a terrible OL.

A few thoughts.

-I don't believe that anything concerning Fisher/Snead's job has leaked out to anyone.
-My preference is Snead stays(hires new HC) and Williams, Fassel stay. Problem is that's a highly unlikely scenario.
-Another full rebuild that includes Snead, the scouting, all coaches along with an existing elite defense and special teams is something i can't get excited about.
-I laughed at the 4 win projections given to the Rams by some in preseason. The joke is on me apparently. Fisher has to go in 2017. That's my bottom line.

I'd most certainly prefer Fisher/Williams for the defense, and a veteran offensive coordinator to run HIS offense-- the same way Fisher lets Williams run HIS defense. I would also prefer if the OC brought in his own offensive staff.

I'm cool with Snead staying, regardless. I'm sure some of our offensive picks are influenced by Fisher. But Snead knows how to run a FO.

Greg Roman here with Goff, Gurley, Britt and Austin would be amazing.

Roman is gone from his team for a reason too though...

Yeah, I was wondering that also. I recall when he was in Whinerville a lot of Whiner fans did not like him and were wanting him out of there.
Not sure if it was too predictable of play calling or his schemes or what but this was during the Harbaugh years and I thought it odd that anyone could have any complaints about anything while they were winning and going to the playoffs every year.
I would be interested in hearing Jrry's rationale in this case.

Norv quit on his team, Roman got canned in Buffalo and the offense took off, and Greg Olsen just please no...
If true too bad Fisher. You should have realized your inadequacy years ago

Roman had Kaepernick looking and playing well enough to get to a Super bowl. Turner has been around forever and everyone knows his game and how to defend it. I really think Turner would struggle with the Rams incomplete roster on the offenses side of the ball. He did with Minnesota's. What he had in Dallas years ago and in San Diego were pretty stacked offenses. Very good QB, good deep threat, good RB, and good OLine. Roman had a huge handicap with Kaepernick being limited to half field reads.

You do have a point about Buffaloes offense being better when he left. Ryan felt he was too pass happy. Once they started to lean on the run game more McCoy took off. I don't get it. He wasn't that way in San Francisco at all. It is Rex Ryan instead of Harbaugh. I don't know who is worse ego wise but there seemed to be a disconnect there and I don't think we know the whole story so I am willing to give him a Mulligan on Buffalo and take his mentorship of Kaepernick and Taylor along with the Niners former running game and consider him a better fit. Just my preference I guess.

I guess I don't know squat...I have never heard of Havenstein spoken of as other than a solid pick....and how can you freaking judge Goff as mediocre as Case Keenum, without qualifying that BS? IT'S HIS FIRST FREAKIN GAME, A-HOLE!:gtfo:

McCoy would be nice. I'm just not convinced he gets the axe after the season. The Chargers have been in every game this year, but have ended up on the wrong side of the scoreboard. They're defense just keeps letting them down

Whether it’s part of a campaign to get a contract extension or an actual epiphany, Fisher has decided if he is retained he will bring in a new, veteran offensive coordinator with a free hand to develop Goff and run the offense.

Uh, yeah. Should have done that years back. At the least should have done that last year.

And I agree with @flv that if Norv quit on his good friend there's little chance he'll be swayed to hang around under Fish. Very unlikely. Plus, the dude is not a head coach, he's an OC through and through.

As I've been saying I still think Mike Shanahan is the guy Kroenke turns to, as he brings a known power run game plus knows offense cold. Also, he is good friends with Fish and might be willing to keep Williams and staff on, not to mention a very good special teams coach and staff.

If not Shanahan, then yeah Chucky does look possible. For the same reasons above, he knows how to leave well enough alone on the other side of the ball.

Fish might throw all that out of whack, though, if he can pull an ace out his sleeve. It would have to be a big one, someone known like Martz. Or Mike Shanahan agreeing to come in under him. Both are very unlikely and so is any other move of that order, which is why the only chance Fish has is if Goff goes berserk the rest of the way and carries this team to a winning record. Still unlikely, but really Fisher's only shot IMO.

McCoy is like Fisher. He always seems to survive. So I wouldn't be surprised if he does again. However, the Chargers choking late in games is something the Chargers fans jest about at this point. It's McCoy's specialty.

Both those guys are better than most of the other options tbh. McCoy is very good, was highlighted very much by Martz when he discussed him with Gase in terms of OCs who knew how to dictate to defneses using their rules. And he would mean no real change in the system, which would be nice if he were fired. Whisenhunt is a notch below him in my estimation, but I'd hire him over Roman and I'm a big fan of what GR did with the whiners. Whisenhunt is a better fit to our personnel I think.

But in the end do you think any of those dudes want to sign on the USS Fisher sinking ship in year six even if he's kept around? That's the rub my friend. That's why Fish won't be kept on.

Maybe. I think Goff is attractive. He's a guy who can land you another head coaching job. Kind of like what Sam did for Pat Shurmur.

Another OC would be Fisher's fourth in as many seasons. I don't see how that's a case to keep him on. The Rams pushing an OC on him just means they've found their next HC in waiting, as was the case with Martz.

If they get a new OC, get a new HC to match.
