Yeah that @jrry32 dude was all over his jock. Wentz this...Wentz that. Kept claiming he was way better than that Goff character. :hide:

Seriously though, I seem to remember that Wentz always had those questions coming into the NFL whereas Goff was constantly being pounded behind a shitty O-line but just kept bouncing up and getting better each year.

While I really liked Wentz' physical traits and tools, Goff seemed more like a real NFL QB.

The jury is still out on both but at least Goff answers the bell even though he has arguably taken more abuse.
I’m too damn old to completely remember but I like to think I influenced @jrry32 on Goff (among many factors too numerous to mention, it was how he moved in the pocket and his even keel personality) being a Pac8 guy from way back when...gaah...okay maybe that’s a stretch. (The influence thing)

As for the jury still being out on our QB, it may be for some, but I have zero doubt he’s our guy.

Sincerely,

Hawaiian Pizza Guy

couldn’t resist :palm:

It was a cheap shot and Clowney not only led with the crown of his helmet he twisted his body downward to do it. He hurled himself headfirst into the back of Wentz's head.

Fuck the Eagles, and their asshole fans, but that was a cheap shot and he will be getting fined for it.

How that didn't draw a flag is strange because it's so obvious.

This was as non incidental as it comes.

I've watched it full speed and slow motion. That was a cheap shot.

Funny you’d mention that being as I recall the ROD poll on whom should the Rams select was decidedly for Wentz (that is until the Rams announcEd their pick)

As I recall, most were impressed with Wentz being a big strong guy while perceiving Goff as thin and frail

Just goes to show “ya never know”

although I was always for Goff.
For this very reason. I felt Wentz ran too often and had a past history of injury.

Eh. He was a runner outside the pocket and running backs take shots way worse than that every game. As a starting QB you have to have situational awareness and know when to take off and when to slide. Russell Wilson damn him knows this and knows when to slide and avoid big hits. Wentz has yet to learn this. When you are a runner you get no special treatment. Slide feet first next time

He got speared in the back of the head.

RB's don't take way worse than this every game. It was a cheap shot.

Situational awareness means he should have eyes in the back of his head to see a guy diving onto his dome from behind?

For sure he should have slid but that doesn't justify a guy hitting him directly in the back of the head. He was half down when Clowney went for his head.

Clowney launched downwards at his head and led with his helmet. He drove into him. Watch the clip, he twisted himself into position to hit with his helmet. That should draw a flag, it's against the rules.

Again, fuck the Eagles and their fans. But this was a horseshit move by Clowney.

Agree to disagree, I also don't see it as some vicious intent to hurt foul as do many others.

Alright.

If he didn't have intent why did he twist himself and launch his body headfirst and downwards directly into the back of Wentz's head? He aimed himself and his helmet right at Wentz's head.

IMO this is an easy flag and 15 yards.

He'll get fined too I'm sure.

I'm not saying he should be put to death or anything but that was clearly a penalty.

Even when QB's are considered runners, there is still a disparity about when flags are thrown for hits--certain guys you can't even glance without getting laundry. Other guys not so much.
That's what really bothers me. Guarantee you RW getting that hit would have brought out a flag in the same game.

Yeah sorry-thats exactly what situational awareness means. A starting QB should know how valuable he is to his teams chances of success and one single play in the first quarter is rarely worth the risk of injury especially when you are already an injury prone QB. Learn how to slide early before any possibility of injury. Clowney is a physical freak and maybe a little dirty but so are most defenders-they all salivate at taking out opposing QBs. Wentz gotta be smarter. The league already caters to QBs so much with roughing the passer calls and such-the next step is just 2-hand touch QBs only

I’m with Les on this one.

Looked absolutely intentional to me, Clowney spearing with his helmet to the back of Wentz’s head.

I expect Clowney to get a huge, well- deserved fine for a dirty hit that literally knocked out the QB.

Wilson almost always looks around to make sure where the contact could come from. It's the model of how to run around as a QB if that is your thing.

I still wanted Goff for this exact reason. He is a more disciplined pocket passer that rarely looks to run. Wentz is too prone to run and thus the constant injuries.

We may see runners like Lamar Jackson get a Lombardi but this type of football doesn't scale to long term success for a franchise. Exhibit A Wentz.

Like with many of these hits you go in thinking it was brutal vicious and intentional and you come out thinking that. Every one of these it's the same story with you. I sorry but I'm not pretentious enough to pretend I know what was in his mind. I don't assume he's some evil guy out to hurt somebody. We have his words and Jason Peters words from the play and talking with Clowney about it. It looks to me he was going to tackle a guy from behind and was committed to it when Wentz went down face first. It looks to me like he's trying to roll over him not launch WWE stylr into the the back of a guys head.

Sorry but not empathic this time. No question it was another instance of Clowney's dirty play....his intentional grabbing Fole's facemask last year another example. But in reality, Carson simply is too injury prone. The Eagles are truly screwed contract wise because they are on the hook at the very least through the 2023 season. IMO they will be forced to sign a good backup or draft perhaps not in the first round but certainly a second day QB talent to develop behind Wentz. Don't think Bortles is looking at that? Only his rookie 2016 year was injury free if I remember correctly.

That is the downside of a QB who runs. IMO the Eagles will have no option except to reign him in next year if they want to keep him healthy. I think it will make him gunshy to pressure and potentially could be a game changer in regards to his performance.

That absolutely was intentional. There is no need to lead with your helmet when a QB is going to the ground.

I've seen plenty of bangbang hits where helmets collide and it's clearly not intentional.

IMO this was not the case. If you rewatch it he moves his frame so that he can hit Wentz helmet to helmet. He made the effort to connect with his helmet to Wentz's helmet.

I don't ever want to see a running QB get hurt, and I never want one playing for the Rams.

They don't last and they usually miss games most years which means the team is trotting out a backup and that's not good.

That absolutely was intentional. There is no need to lead with your helmet when a QB is going to the ground.

The rule was put in place to prevent exactly this type of thing.

Imagine if Goff got hit like that. We'd all be pissed as hell.

As to Goff being a more NFL QB, well, up until this year because Lamarr is proving everybody wrong. Anyway, tough injury, it was to the head and you can't do anything about that, however, some will post it's a trend with Wentz and he does not know how to protect himself and they would be accurate to this point.

The other issue is, hits take their toll and if Wentz has more concussions, then that becomes another issue. IMO, he's still a very good QB, but Goff is too @Ram65 is correct, Philly fans and sport jocks don't look at Goff as a good QB and I understand because that is the way Philly people are wired, it's always about their team and them.

LJ in Baltimore will take his lumps too. It pretty much always happens.

As far as Wentz the "doesn't protect himself" will probably never change and never get coached out of him. Eventually it'll diminish then shorten his career.
