I think what's going on with Blanton is he's received a ton of great coaching. He looked good vs SF in a huge playoff game to his credit. But as much as I like to root for guys like him he's a JAG most likely and JAGs generally aren't gonna sustain top play.

Maybe the Rams have realized that if they want a blocking-only TE they can stick an OT out there. Idk. Or maybe they hit it out of the park on Blanton who is about to become a stud TE for us. But I'd still feel better adding to that room in the draft.

Absolutely. But how high? If you want a quality blocking tight end they can be had much later. In the draft, I'd feel comfortable if they took the best CB available at #104. After that, the best RB at #142 or #175. And with the other of those first 3, OL, OLB or ILB.

I expect the Rams to resign OBJ. Of course, if he gets an offer that he can't refuse because the money is significantly higher than the Rams' offer all bets are off.

Gronk's blocking has regressed. He does seem much slower too.

I look for the Rams to add a TE in the draft.

Round 4 Pick #38 - Jelani Woods TE Virginia

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsBN2se6mag

Analysis: At 6'7" 260, Jelani Woods is an absolutely massive man. He spent most of his career as a blocking TE at Oklahoma State, transferring to UVA in his final year. UVA unleashed him as a weapon, and he responded with 44 catches for 598 yards and 8 TDs. Possessing surprising speed and fluidity for such a big man and a punishing running style, Woods proved to be a major threat in the intermediate and deep ranges. But he was especially effective in the red zone due to his massive frame and impressive body control. He's a leggy athlete, which limits his suddenness, and he needs a lot of technical refinement, but he has the size, physicality, and strength to block in line with the athleticism to be a legitimate threat in the passing game.

He was a blocking FB at OK State before transferring. I saw an interview and he said he played more in the backfield which should get McVay's attention besides his size, 34-inch arms, and 4.61 40 yard dash. Seemed like a smart guy who is ready to work. Rams may have to move up a little to get him. He could play some right away and is a great development TE for the near future.

Edit: More info and reports.

Maybe, but again I do believe Blanton is ready to step up, but the 2022 draft is bountiful with TE's as @PARAM has communicated with the likes of John Fitzgerald from Georgia & FSU's Jordan Wilson for example, so if the Rams are a bit unsure, they could add one of these, especially Fitzgerald, who might be there as an UDRFA, just like Blanton was from Missouri.
Even if they like Blanton, Higbee is getting older. It may be the perfect draft to find his future replacement.
I think it’s obvious the Rams FO knows how to work the cap and if they want Beckham they will get it done.

Now is he worth a multi-year contract?

How will he produce in 2022?

Personally, I don’t think he will be able to fully recover to what we saw just before the injury this year.

Maybe he gets to #3 on this roster but I wouldn’t offer him a contract worth more than that.
He and his agent are looking for #1 type money right now. He’s no longer a #1. I’ve recently heard that had he not injured his knee that he’d have been the Super Bowl MVP. The Bengals fear of Kupp has a lot to do with his play in that game.
Not at all. He got destroyed against the run. Sure he was a pleasant surprise with his catches but if anyone claims he was a good blocker in that game, they clearly didnt watch it. Coming out of college his run blocking was questionable for next level, which is why he wasnt drafted.
Blanton is not built like a blocker. He’s got a lot of work to do to be reliable in that role.
According to Jordan, the rams have left the ball in OBJs court. He is out seeing what other teams are willing to pay.
Just like with Von, OBJs agent is going to hype his performance and try to convince teams that he’s worth more than he is. Some team desperate for a receiver will likely bite, then wonder why he doesn’t look the same playing on their team.

Look what this team did for Fowler. Ask Floyd what it’s done for him. It’s what helped to lure Allen Robinson. It’s the combination of scheme, coaching, star power, professionalism and overall culture that gets the most from these players.

I'd rather see gronk just stay where he karmatically belongs. :laugh4:

If Terrell Lewis can get healthy, that dude is all dawg… I really hope he and Reggie’s team can figure it out because when healthy, he’s got the potential to be a dang monster

Not sure the it will end up the same as Von. OBJ is injured for one. There are a lot of good receivers in the draft for another. Just think he will sign with the Rams

Yeah I heard the speculation too but the truth is he only had 2 catches for 50 something and a TD when he got hurt.

There’s no telling if he even catches another the rest of the game. It’s all guess work, he’s getting that knee rebuilt again, and he’s never going to be a #1 again.

He could be a good complimentary player on a perennial SB contender though.

Only 2 for 50 and a TD? It was ONLY the 2nd Q.

He doesn't have to be a #1 or #2, he's gotta be a complimentary #3. And having 85% of what OBj used to be as a #3, is better then most #1 WRs.

No thank you....fuck that piece of shit Brady dick rider. Besides he only wants to play with his prison bunk mate, Princess Brady. Honestly not knocking ur suggestion, just simply don't care for the guy.
A certain tingling body part, confirms this….

My personal favorite three tight ends in this draft are Cade Otton (Washington), Jalen Wydermyer (Texas A&M), and Chigoziem Okonkwo (Maryland). If we got one of them, along with Tyler Badie (I will not stop pounding the drum for him.), I'd be stoked.

Well he's almost dimensionally a mirror image of Higbee.
Higbee 6'6" 255 lbs
Blanton 6'6" 260 lbs

I went back and rewatched the Rams offense in the SF postseason game, focusing only on Blanton. The kid blocked his ass off. He missed one block coming all the way across the formation and he and Havenstein were looking at each other on a blown up play. Other than that, he excelled. Whomever he had to block on the rest of the plays didn't lay a hand on the ball carrier unless he chased him downfield. Plus he was used a lot....and I mean on at least 10 plays....to chip on the DE as he was going out in the passing game and did a great job there too. If you've got GamePass, watch it again. If you don't, you should get it. It's a nice thing to have when somebody makes a claim like "he was rag dolled all day" or "he got destroyed against the run". It just isn't true.

Gronk has what 1 year left? 2 max? But why would he leave Brady if he decides to come back, doesn't make sense to me. Doubt he goes anywhere but TB if he plays. As others have said this draft has an insane amount of talent in the mid rounds at TE. Blanton showed enough last year as a receiver and blocker to be TE#2. Hopkins had the game of his life in the SB and showed he can be trusted as a receiving option vs man coverage. He makes the team as TE#3. I think we grab a rookie who can block to go along with this bunch and roll with 4 TEs next year with Hopkins being a TE/WR hybrid.

Regarding OBJ, I would love to see him come back and hope he wants to remain in LA. Seeing all the other WRs get huge contracts this off-season I'm sure he's a bit frustrated because he was due for a nice pay day around $15M annually I'd guess. But if we can get him on a 1 year deal so he can rehab his knee maybe he gets a nice deal next off-season. The question is will one of the WR hungry teams give him more guaranteed money this year on a 2-year deal for example and if so will he be tempted to leave. I think Von bouncing out of town could hurt us in this regard because they were literally best friends. Hoping for the best with OBJ. If we do resign him, come playoff time our receiving options will be flat out ridiculous.

I hope we have a deal in place for Clowney after AD99 re ups. Imagine how good our run Def would be

I hope you are right. He’s a very nice #3 if healthy

Agree!! Wasn’t an OBJ fan until his play and contribution with/for the Rams!! Now, I am a HUGE OBJ FAN and I really hope he re-signs with the Rams even if it means he will not be available until later in the season (As long as he is ready for the Playoffs and the RAMS REPEAT SUPER BOWL RUN!!!)!!
