Man I’d love to see Gronk come aboard but he seems too tied to Brady. He’s such a good blocker, the run game would instantly improve. Alas, it’s just a pipe dream unless he too wants that “3rd team winning a SB ring with” thingie
As for OBJ, I don’t see why folks are in such a rush. He just had surgery and I wouldn’t think about a contract until there’s a timeline on his return.

I saw a report that "Gronkowski is 50-50" on what to do.

I an guessing that means ... 50% returning to the Bucs; and 50% taking another Bong-Hit.

Kendall Blanton is a great blocker, watch how he handled Bosa in the NFC Championship game. They have been developing Blanton as a receiver, his blocking was his strength at Missouri and IMO, after his success in the NFC Championship game, they felt good about allowing Mundt to leave.
Blanton is not a good blocker, he got tossed around like a rag doll

I think it's premature to call Blanton a great blocker Den. He's had some outings where he's gotten it done. But in this league can you do it for 17 weeks and what is your DNA in terms of production over that window. I'd love nothing more than to see him develop, I love rooting for the bottom roster types. But Mundt I don't think was about them loving their TE room. I think it was about it was time for him to leave and he's not worth overpaying even a little on the FA market.

Maybe, but again I do believe Blanton is ready to step up, but the 2022 draft is bountiful with TE's as @PARAM has communicated with the likes of John Fitzgerald from Georgia & FSU's Jordan Wilson for example, so if the Rams are a bit unsure, they could add one of these, especially Fitzgerald, who might be there as an UDRFA, just like Blanton was from Missouri.

I didn't see that and I know that was his calling card at Missouri. IMO, I thought he played really well against Bosa in the NFC Championship game, do you agree?

Anybody who thinks Blanton can't block needs to re-watch that SF CCG. The evidence is on film. He had a missed block coming across the formation and 1 play where he and Havenstein had a mix up. Other than that he was driving guys out of the play. He blocked Bosa well, DT Jones, Warner, Greenlaw and Tartt. Anybody they asked him to block he handled. He blocked well in the run game and the screen game. There was no "rag-dolling" of Blanton.

I think it’s obvious the Rams FO knows how to work the cap and if they want Beckham they will get it done.

Now is he worth a multi-year contract?

How will he produce in 2022?

Personally, I don’t think he will be able to fully recover to what we saw just before the injury this year.

Maybe he gets to #3 on this roster but I wouldn’t offer him a contract worth more than that.

I didn't know him from Adam when he was an NFL prospect. So I looked back to see what I could find.....***Not doubting your evaluation of him Den....

Here's a couple of evaluations:

Dan Parlegreco, DTP:
"Blanton has the definition of an ideal build, with a long and athletic frame, possessing outstanding muscularity and power throughout his frame. Blanton is used on special teams’ in college due to his physicality. Reliable and sticky hands to snatch and catch the ball away from his frame. Outstanding length, possessing the wingspan to outstretch smaller DBs. Shows nice body control and flexibility in his ability to adjust to badly thrown balls. Shows good initial quickness out of his stance, quickly getting to the 2nd level to block. Blanton is very physical, showing tremendous upper body power and strength. You can tell he takes blocking very seriously. A really good move blocker who shows an ability to get out in space and block downfield at all levels."

He added:
"– I really think a smart team is going to take a chance on Blanton due to his size and frame. He’s an athletically-built guy who absolutely has potential. I don’t think he’s strictly a “blocking TE” because there are some movement skills to work with. But at the very least you’ll have a really solid blocking TE. 6th round player."

Was he calling the Rams "smart"? Astute of him.

Here was his NFL.com draft profile:

" Overview
Could be viewed by some teams as a height/weight/speed prospect worthy of stashing and developing, thanks to his untapped potential. Blanton is big and fast, but he doesn't get as much as he should from either physical trait. However, his athleticism avails itself in his ability to stick to blocks as well as run after the catch. There is plenty of room for improvement, and the potential is there to compete for a roster spot as a late-rounder or undrafted free agent."

Strengths
  • Good combination of size and speed
  • Played in-line, as H-back and from slot/bunch sets
  • Expected to run somewhere in the 4.6s
  • Tall with high-point ability
  • Athletic ability suddenly clicks after the catch
  • Bursts to accelerate away from trailing tacklers with ability to elude oncoming traffic
  • Showed willingness to try and leap up and over Georgia defender after the catch
  • Plus body control allows for stickier blocking through contact
  • Athletic feet to adjust and mirror to second-level movement
  • Ability to recover and reconnect when beaten early as in-line blocker
And from Blanton himself in a pre-draft interview:

"KB: We got a lot of good tight ends that come through here. I’m more of a traditional Y tight end. I feel like I can do both, block and catch, but we had a lot of good tight ends coming in. I think it was the best tight end group in the last six years or so at any college program, Albert Okwuegbunam was basically our receiving tight end, as we would spread him out and do things with that. It was just what the team needed from me though, a guy who could block and wasn’t afraid to stick his nose in with the big guys we were facing in the SEC and go toe-to-toe with them. I’d do that everyday, and I was fortunate enough to play in the SEC, as a lot of those guys you are going to see on Sundays, so I got to block them. That’s just what they wanted me to do, though, and I’m not going to argue with the coaches."

Careful!

Snead is such an out- of-the-box-thinker, he may sign an actual Condor
Fuck it let's do it! We should sign a Liger to. For all you folks that don't know what that is, it's the majestic, mythical, legendary, ball dragging, half Tiger, half Lion.......why do I feel like I'm describing Tiger Woods when his girl first found out he was banging porn stars? Oh well fuck it hahaha

Every pick is a gamble but I lean toward the football player a bit more, even if they are not elite athletes.

Amen. See Kupp, Woods, and “undersized” Donald.

Guys who can’t seem to play a whole season in college don’t usually fare well in the pros either. Neither do guys who start their NFL careers perennially hurt. Harris needs a solid season of development to even stand a chance at making the squad in ‘23.

The Rams are no longer a team short on talent. They are a legitimate threat to win the SB every year. Their bar is as high as it has been in a long time.

As for OBJ, what’s the rush? He can’t even play for most of the season. Patience, grasshoppers.

Now, here is why I know I was right....I actually watched him play and also our own Missouri Officiano @Memento confirmed my evaluation after the Rams had signed Blanton to their practice squad in 2019. Now I was growing impatient, but @Memento assured me that Blanton would eventually make the roster an prove worth the wait and that evaluation was right on point!

Yeah, he's developed. Now will Brycen Hopkins develop? He had a helluva SB once Blanton went down. Clutch catches for first downs. I don't know about his blocking because of course the TEs were being spread wide with Kupp and Skowronek!!!!!!

Not at all. He got destroyed against the run. Sure he was a pleasant surprise with his catches but if anyone claims he was a good blocker in that game, they clearly didnt watch it. Coming out of college his run blocking was questionable for next level, which is why he wasnt drafted.

Brycen Hopkins saved our bacon because he was the only other reliable option other then Kupp during the final drive in the Super Bowl. Jefferson disappeared for whatever reason and Ben Skowronek not only forgot how to catch, but also how to run a proper route. Overall, I'm hoping the confidence catapults Hopkins because I know when the Rams drafted him, they had big plans and they love lineage players.

Yeah, it'll be good to have 3 tight ends who know the system. Two of them who've proven they can block. Maybe the third will. Or maybe they'll get one of those TE's we mentioned in the draft or UDFA.

I've been hearing they have enough set aside for OBJ. Like its been speculated, maybe they're waiting to get the extensions done for AD and Kupp. If they're in contact with OBJ and both sides are in agreement then there is no hurry. The only problem I see is if another team enters the picture and offers him a deal he can't turn down. But I really can't see that. Not when they know he won't be available till the middle of the season.
According to Jordan, the rams have left the ball in OBJs court. He is out seeing what other teams are willing to pay.
