Harris has certainly gained a bit of physicality since last preseason actually laying some blocks on people. Still got a ways to go when going up against NFL starters but there is progress there which is good. I need to see him catch balls in traffic and while having to fight off defensive players to be convinced he's a WR. The most gifted player physically isn't going to mean squat if he doesn't have the mentality to focus on a ball through to a catch without flinching. And to know to protect the ball after making a catch... if I was a defensive player going up against someone that raw I'd go for a peanut punch every time he had the ball in his hands.

Harris has all the physical gifts. But I don't know if he knows how to track a deep ball. Didn't look like it with the one throw from Wolford. Was it a bad throw? Or just a matter of not adjusting to the ball. Right now Harris doesn't look like he has that skill yet.

Yeah, I am 6'5" and I dominated flag football in gym class in HS, but put me on a football field and I know I would not have been successful. I was a basketball player, didn't have the football mentality of getting hit while trying to catch a jump ball.

An extreme example, but a little comparable.

1st I agree he doesn't track the ball as well as McCutchen or Atwell. 2nd, while he did cream that guy, it looked mostly like a reaction to something he didn't expect and he kind of protected himself. Which is not a bad thing it just wasn't his intention. Last year with Perkins throwing him jump balls he didn't come down with any, but the passes were terrible. Not really put where he could use his body to block someone out. Nothing like how Perkins passes were to Cutch. And the pass from Wolford wasn't great either. So in some respects things haven't lined up for him like McCutchin.

All that being said. He is a really good ST player so they can keep him around and maybe he starts to pick up his development. It is too enticing to not give him more time.

Yeah I'm not sure what to think about that pancake... it almost seemed like both he and the DE were not expecting either of them to collide with each other and was kind of an uncontested pancake lol. Harris seemed to momentarily not know what to do after it happened. Was a bit awkward and not sure it counts but at least he wasn't the one who got laid out so it's definitely a positive. But that's kind of how everything Harris does just looks a bit awkward... but he's not nearly as awkward looking as he was last preseason.

I did see him block in line on a few plays. I think he did block on that Ragas TD as did Carter, who on that play blocked well as opposed to the fumble play where he got blown up.

It was a bit of a drive-by, no doubt. :laugh3:

But he's improved for sure from last preseason. Last year this time guys were throwing him around a bit. It's like he's got bird bones or something. This year that's not as much a factor, he's making strides question is whether it's going to be enough. This is a very competitive roster.
