Seems like an odd fit.

It will be interesting to watch play out, though.

I think its odd too. Cam is all about Cam and being flashy....Bill isnt a fan of that attitude. Is he going to evolve for this or will it blow up?

So they lose a 3rd draft pick because of cheating

Sign Fig Newton to a 1 year deal, release him next year and get 3rd rd comp pick

But you'll get to witness in person, the Pat fan whining when Cam does Cam and Brady excels in Tampa?

Side note:

So typical move by the Patriots to announce the signing right after the NFL announced the penalty

FWIW, I remember watching Nebraska vs. Oklahoma at a very young ages, when I was 5 & 6 years of age back in 71-72 when Bob Devaney was Head Coach and how they kept showing a young Tom Osborne as the heir apparent. Those games were special to me as I learned back then, there were actually other colleges that played football besides Notre Dame.

That's when I became a fan. NU vs OU, Johny Rodgers punt return. That did it!

A lot of people would never notice that. Nice.

What is it... a couple of days later? I am STILL surprised by this move.

Of all the offseason rumors, I never believed this one.

I did...those wormy fucks always find a way. Mark my words, Cam is gonna be in MVP contention. He is playing for his career and a new monster deal. He is going to put it all out there and with McDaniels, he will get his opportunities. Look out NFL. This could get dangerous.

The situation is certainly set up to be exactly that.

Newton just came off a lost season due to injury...

He’s 31... so young enough to really put the physical work in and emerge physically at a high point...

Probably feels disrespected over the lack of interest...

But... For me, it comes down to will he be hungry enough for that? I think he will talk the talk... and this exact storyline should develop... but is Newton really that kind of hard-worker at this point? Was he ever?

I have my doubts.

But, I’m watching this one play out and can see a full range of outcomes. He may very well blow up as you suggest. He may also stumble early and sulk.

With Newton, we’ve seen him perform along that full range.

My crystal ball says he is going to look just like he has for the last 2 years.
Lets see how that looks, last 16 starts:
Cam : 370/560 (66%) 3,967 yards, 24 TD 14 INT 90.5 QBR, 106 rush 486 yards, 4 TD, 2 FMBL
TB12: 373/613 )60%) 4,057 yards, 24 TD 8 INT 88.0 QBR, 26 rush 34 yards, 3 TD, 1 FMBL
Looks like an upgrade....

Except for the fact that he's only played in 16 games during the last 2 years.

The most critical ability is availability.

And only missed 4 starts in his first 8 seasons due to injury.
I dont doubt his ability to be healthy, its his ability to play in such a precision offense that gives me doubts

I really doubt both now. He's never been Mr Consistent with his throws... and I've never seen a good OLD running QB.

Add in that he's coming off shoulder and foot injuries/surgeries.

It's no wonder he didn't have many suitors.

Yeah. I can’t think of a time I dreaded playing Cam Newton.

He’s a good player, but inconsistent enough I’d be okay with our chances.

And that was before injury and age.

Their biggest problem is not having anyone to throw the ball to. He is going to spend a lot of time handing it to Sony and Co.

Did they pick up a tight end? I can't remember. His guy was always Olsen. He needs that again. He's not had a good WR outside of Steve Smith...i dont think N'Keal is going to be Smith-like.

The potential is there for him...IF he can stay healthy. Reading through some of the arguments against him, I've nearly been convinced that he may not even get the nod over Stidam.

I figure Cam is on step 5 of the dual threat QB 7 step program.

Step 1: Enter the league and blow it up with ESPN highlights

Step 2: Get crowned the next great thing and the future of the league

Step 3: Not win Super Bowls

Step 4: Body breaks down

Step 5: Make a comeback on a different team

Step 6: Become the backup on a different team

Step 7: Done
