Or the same or a little more would work. I really think that if you compare the two, Cooks is more talented, has a wider range of plays, is faster, is more of a pure football player, has better instincts, and will work harder to help the team. Watkins is stronger and maybe has a more prototypical body and skill set than Cooks but give me Cooks any day and twice on Sundays. Just sign him to an extension. A million here or a million there ain't going to amount to shit down the line.If this FO can sign Cooks for less than what Watkins got, this is gonna be a game changer for this organization. Just a feeling.
I don't get how they say Patriots got the better of the deal. 1st Rd picks are historically 50% chance of bust. We replace that 50% (and it's apparent we would've drafted a WR) with a player that is 100% not a bust, who has produced in 2 different systems, and is TGE SAME AGE as a lot of these kids in the draft! That's like going into a casino to gamble with a garuntee of winning.
Think you are exactly right about all the good stuff Cooks brings to the table. All three of our receivers will now be technically multi skilled, smart and totally dedicated. Have to wonder if this will inspire McVay to use them interchangeably off deception on routes, or create even more complex variations in the passing game. Imo this group of receivers can handle anything he comes up with.Pretty funny. If you watched the Cooks intro, McVay looked like a kid in a candy store. I buy that they were trying to get Cooks last year before ultimately landing Watkins and I also think they showed interest in OBJ knowing it was a bit of a stretch that they could get him and that may very well have shown the patsies that they were serious about getting someone to fill that hole. Cooks is a player that will come in and be one of the guys while also leading with his work ethic. The more I think about it, the more stoked I am.
The one thing I wished the Rams could have done was wait until Draft Day - moved down a few slots to get a late first and second AND THEN do this trade.
Oh well - I guess they couldn't wait.

Right? He already does it to some extent. But can you imagine what having all three receivers able to run great routes, run almost all of them, and then add Cooks speed and still you have Woods' deceptive speed, Kupp's size and savvy, young TEs that are bound to get better, and Todd FREAKING Gurley? How many different plays could you run out of just a few formations?Think you are exactly right about all the good stuff Cooks brings to the table. Well he may have the numbers on his side but he's thought of as a one trick pony kind of guy among NFL personnel execs, and doesn't have the size of a typical number one. I don't think if that far out there to think he would sign for 13-14 mill per year, him being a Cali guy doesn't hurt either. Can’t imagine that Cooks’s agent would settle for a deal less than Sammy. Why would he?
Sammy’s numbers in 4 years: 192 Rec for 3052 Yds and 25 TD.
Cooks numbers in 4 years: 280 rec for 3943 yds and 27 TD.
Mike Evans numbers in 4 years: 309 rec for 4579 yds and 32 TD.
So, Cooks’ numbers are higher than Sammy’s but lower than Evans. I’d expect the contracts to be the same way.
Sammy got 3 years at 48M, or 16M per year.
Evans got 5 years at 82.5M, or 16.5 per year (with an average of 18M per year in the first 3 years).
So, I imagine Cooks will be slotted somewhere between Sammy and Evans.
I do hope it gets done, because, yeah, giving up a 2nd for Sammy and a 1st for Cooks without signing either long-term would be, uh, no bueno.
Contract for Cooks— git ‘er done!
