The Rams would give Wagner the best opportunity to thumb his nose twice a year at the Hawks and to get another ring while doing it. I have no doubt that there is a lot of interest both ways.

Wagner’s gonna go where the most guaranteed $$$ is. Period.
If he doesn’t like what the Chargers or Rams offer maybe he takes the better offer elsewhere. But he said he wants to be in LA.

Consider that the Rams will have to alter the defense a bit because they want Ernest Jones on the field. They’ve said that. So they’d be switching to a traditional 3/4 by adding Wagner.
It won’t exactly be the Staley defensive model anymore. So I don’t expect them to make a big offer. McVay has had success with the defense as is. Morris really seemed to have it down by seasons end.

I repeat. Wagner’s gonna go where the most guaranteed $$$ is. Period. That’s the NFL today.

Yup.
And when the signing is announced it will contain some form or another of, "its believed that he had higher offers, but....."

Latest On LB Bobby Wagner

March 22nd, 2022

Bobby Wagner still hasn’t found a new home, but we’re learning some details about his suitors’ pursuits. Rams GM Les Snead admitted that the Rams “talked about” adding the veteran linebacker (via Michael J. Duarte on Twitter). The GM even met with the defensive coaching staff to break down tape and determine if Wagner would be a fit.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard the Rams connected to Wagner; all of the NFC West teams were mentioned as suitors after the linebacker was let go by the Seahawks. The Broncos and Cowboys have also been connected to the 31-year-old.

Speaking of the Cowboys, Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News reports (on Twitter) that “no momentum exists” between Wagner and Dallas. Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn is familiar with Wagner dating back from their days in Seattle, and according to Gehlken, the coach has been in contact with the player, who is serving as his own agent. While there is a “strong relationship” between the two, the reporter says a deal was considered “unlikely” and a “long shot” from the start.

Wagner started all three playoff games during the Seahawks Super Bowl-winning 2013 campaign, and he then proceeded to go on an eight-year run of Pro Bowl and All-Pro selections. During that stretch, Wagner averaged 145 tackles per season, and he left the organization as the Seahawks’ all-time leader in tackles. The 31-year-old was still productive in 2021, compiling a career-high 170 tackles to go along with three tackles for loss and three QB hits.

I'd like this better than when we got Mathews - Wagner still has it compared to him.
I'd be ecstatic in fact. Been a while since we had a stud ILB / MLB corps. Him & E.Jones would be a great duo.

If there is some truth to all these rumors & the Rams are really considering a well-used veteran 43 D MLB'er to insert into their 2020/2021 34 Defensive scheme....I am pondering what would be the reasons to spend so big on a position that is not utilized by the SB-winning Rams.

First is the LBing unit as a whole (4 positions) is lacking in experience talent. Of the four-post, only Floyd has a full season of starts under his belt at any one position. Hollins has been in the NFL for 3 seasons but has been bounced around from both the OLB'er posts. Plus in & out as an ILB'er post for the Rams & Broncos (who cut him). Currently, Hollins is badly needed to start opposite Floyd on the outside.

Inside Jones has 7 regular-season gm starts & Howard has only 2 regular-season games. Rozeboom has zero but he did suit up for 10 gms last season. So experience is seriously lacking inside.

This would force SS Taylor Rapp to play mainly in the secondary, not an ideal plan.

The Les Snead/Bobby Wagner talk is just getting a lot of press simply because there hasn't been any other team in the mix for Wagner.

I still don't see the fit of an aging MIKE in the Rams 3-4 defense.

How many downs does Wagner play in the Rams defense?

What about Jones? Does he lose downs to Wagner?

To say wagner is an aging mike is just lazy. You do know he led the league in tackles last year, right? Earnest jones only loses downs due to injury at this point so are we really rolling the dice on his health and the fact that his injuries have kept him from getting much needed snaps? I love jones and think he will become a fan favorite but right now, he just can't be counted on. Hopefully this year will be an epiphany for him. Wagner adds so much more than just his position, which he still kicks ass at, and playing behind our dline will not only invigorate him, but our run defense will be the best it's been in decades....not years, decades.

Well, i could see it from the standpoint that he would be important in your two biggest games of the year, against the Niners run game.

And you need 3 starting caliber players at ILB. Now, I do get that teams don't spend big money at that position, and I would not break the bank for him, but he would be a solid addition at the right price.
