I said 29 year old MVP. :wow2:
It was mostly his legs that made him an MVP. Without that, I don't see him as an MVP caliber QB. When he wasn't running towards the end of this season, he wasn't the same QB and not one that I would make the foundation of my franchise.

We'll see. Bottom line is this. Baltimore made their choice. Now they have to find a Head Coach and an OC who are going to get the most out of Lamar. It's quite possible, they hire somebody who is both and he hires an OC who is the glorified QB coach.

To add, he lost out on his third MVP last year (41 TDs, 4 Int) to a guy who won it with his legs. So I wouldn't get too down on that aspect of their game.

I like two defensive coaches for this gig, either Brian Flores or Jesse Minter. If Flores he could bring in Brian Daboll as his OC being they worked together in New England.

There's no issues winning MVPs with your legs, but that eventually comes to an end. I'm down on that aspect for Lamar specifically because he's almost 30 amd sustained injuries this year. Neither are good things for a running QB.

Reading the tea leaves (and they can be misleading), Lamar had a problem with the offense (Monken) and Harbaugh did nothing about it. Bringing in a defensive head coach with an OC might not be enough. I'm thinking.....if all that rumor shit is legit....it's going to be an offensive guy. Stefanski? Daboll? Somebody else?

there's only 32 teams in the league, only 4-8 coaching openings a year and often times only a 2-3 year window for some of these guys to be viable candidates

also, things change VERY quickly in this league, no guarantee that this division stays good even next year

ARI isn't tied to a QB, doesn't have a lot of crazy contracts (that I know), has decent picks avail - you could do a lot worse
Not counting Mini Me's contract.

Honestly, I've always respected John Harbaugh. I hate his brother as much as hemorrhoids, but John Harbaugh earned my respect when he was playing the then-St. Louis Rams in a preseason game where I was at the stadium (think it was 2012 or 2013. Think I did analysis here of that game, but I can't pull it up for proof; it's been so many pages.), immediately laying into a Ravens player on the sideline for a dirty hit on teams. Guy just had that temperament of a head coach, worked his way up from teams to be the Ravens coach (one of the only pure special teams coaches to become a head coach and actually succeed), and has done an outstanding job for that franchise. When you think of the top head coach for the Ravens, you think of John Harbaugh. He commands respect, and he's earned it.

I know it's in our conference and that we play them next year, but there's a tiny part of me who would love to see him work with Jayden Daniels and the Comm anders, just out of a talent/coaching standpoint.

Those two are pretty popular options I think I heard Rich Eisen mention both today too.

Sounds about right. The Ravens look to be on par with Buffalo and Green Bay. San Francisco is up there, too.

The Rams, Eagles, and KC are the top 3 teams in the league over the last 9 years or so. No shame in being listed behind them.

All of these teams, including the Ravens, have great coaching, a great front office, and great culture.
Hate to say it, have to include SF in there among the very top franchises. 2 SB appearances and a few other NFC Championship games as well in terms of top 4 teams.

Agreed.

KC
Eagles
Rams
9ers
Ravens, Buffalo, Green Bay - same tier.

These are the best run organizations in the league, IMO. I'd trade a critical piece of the winning infrastructure for some QBs, such as Mahomes, but not for a running QB.

I saw a post on FB that only 6 franchises have made the playoffs each of the last 3 years.

Rams
Eagles
Niners
Packers
Bills
Steelers

Vegas is a total shit show and will take a few years to win. Plus I don’t think he wants to be in the same division as his brother. I have no information regarding that, just a feeling.
Not too sure. They’ll have a new QB that probably fits well with Harbaugh, a great TE, a potentially great RB, star DE, and likely an owner that clearly spends money on coaches and will likely let him do whatever he wants. He may even want to go against his brother a couple times a year.

We’ll see? Sorry I look at the Raiders as dysfunctional and the Giants as a blue blood, but that’s just me.

Yeah. I’m certainly not saying I’m right. And they are definitely dysfunctional. But it would possibly be a coach the Raiders could get their fans to buy into and make that franchise look like they are trying everything to be a contender.

Giants would make sense too.

For what it’s worth, my opinion on the great coaches is those are the guys that show the ability to hire and replace the coaches around him time and time again with sustained success, and get the entire thing pointed in the same direction….
and whether or not the HC is an “offensive” guy or a “defensive” guy doesn’t matter.

You’re higher on Lamar than I am. That’s obvious. IMO the arrow on his career is on the downswing already due to his play style. Harbaugh is one of a handful of the best coaches and his “skills” aren’t in decline because he isn’t getting hit every week. It’s a silly analogy but…That’s just how it works. Players get older and beat up. Coaches get older and continue to coach. The good ones get better at it.

I know we’ll disagree on all that. Nothing wrong with differing opinions.
Yeah. This is a agree to disagree one here.

Sure, it won't last forever, but IMO, Lamar Jackson is still in his prime and just got banged up this year. And Harbaugh lasted as long as he did because of Jackson.

Again, once Ray Lewis, Ed Redd, and Terrell Suggs got old and/or left, it looked like he was on his way out....until Jackson showed up.

Now as a non defensive or offensive specialist I would have hoped that Harbaugh's teams did a better job at the attention to details / team discipline. For example: McVay's teams have been in the bottom half of the league in the number of penalties maybe once or twice. Most times they have been within the top 10 or so fewest. But during that same time period Harbaugh's teams have finished in the bottom half of the league in that area more than half the time.
