I'm skeptical. Is is really far harder to find a franchise QB than a GREAT coach?

How many great coaches are even in the league? I don't know the answers, but I'm not sure of it being far harder.
Depends upon one's definition of franchise QB and GREAT coach.

Well, you're the one who made the assertion using those phrases so you tell me. How many great coaches do you see in the league? I'd say maybe there's a handful.

Sorry. I just don't feel like counting or having this discussion.
But, I do consider Lamar Jackson a franchise QB and I'm iffy on John Harbaugh being a great Head Coach. Good perhaps. But, great?

Fair enough.

I'd agree with your assessment if we're talking about the Jackson from a few years ago, but not for an athletically declining Jackson.

And I'm higher on Harbaugh than you are. Since he's been called by 10+ teams, it sounds like the whole league is, too.

I could see Harbaugh ending up in Buffalo if the Bills lose this weekend. At least he would want that job for sure. Not sure Buffalo would want a first time HC in a win now environment. So that would be a perfect marriage.

McDermott just might have worn out his welcome if they come up short again in a year with no Mahomes or Burrow to deal with.

Jackson had the best season of his career last year.

Very injured this year (and maybe a guy who doesn't want to push himself when injured if you believe some reports), sure he's 29 but I'm not ready to say he's declining athletically till I see two years in a row of lack of athletic ability (and even this year, I don't know that his athletic ability declined, he was just injured).

I'm not looking at stats. I'm looking at age and injuries. He's approaching 30, which is often when athleticism starts to decline and injuries start to increase, especially for runners.

I take that with a grain of salt. It came from his agent. I'm sure there are teams who've contracted his agent but 7? 10? I'm not so sure about that.

The last 8 years, he's had 6 postseasons. One and done 3 times including as the #1 seed. 1-1 the other 3 years. It's great he can get to the postseason that often or is it. Two of the teams in the division are two of the top 5 most poorly run franchises and the other hangs it's hat on never having a losing season but being even worse than Harbaugh in the postseason......the last 5 times to the postseason 1 and done and 6 of their last 8 trips. I'm not impressed with 12 postseasons in that division....at least not as impressed as some make it sound.

Can you name 5 teams that have had a better last 8 years? 10 teams?

I'm certain his agent isn't lying. He should be the first call for every team with an opening, and frankly for some teams without an opening. I'm looking at you Miami.

I think that's fair, I'll stand by my point too, I need to see two years in a row of decline before I personally make a declarative statement.

As to the situation (which I know we haven't talked about): I think it's fairly obvious from reports that it Lamar was unhappy and when choosing between Lamar and Harbaugh, you choose Lamar right now. I'd do that in a heartbeat (even if he's got some warts - not everyone can be Tom Brady in work ethic). Sounds like Harbaugh had lost other parts of the locker room too. Interestingly, Mays was asked if there was a coach he would pick over Lamar and his answer was... McVay (and then added Shanahan). I laughed. Thought that was great.

I think we would agree that there's a window here with Lamar now before the wheels start to fall off a bit athletically (well, you may see it sooner) so I think if your Baltimore you make the pivot now. Curious who they get. I think Lamar and Stefanski could be a good scheme fit. Not sure though. Hear Jesse Minter's name a bunch, even Flores - but it sounds like Lamar needs a bit more kid gloves than a guy like Stafford or Brady so not sure people remember how it worked with Tua and Flores - that match sounds outlandish to me.

Looks like Davis Webb (Denver's QB coach) is getting some play with the Raiduhs. Smells like Brady, i.e. about as good as a fart in church.

The Rams, the Eagles, Kansas City, Green Bay and Buffalo. That didn't take me long. Give me a couple of minutes and I'll add a couple more.

Again, weak division. We're not talking NFC West or NFC North.

Lamar needs more team around him than some other QBs would, in order to get it done in the playoffs. Stafford for example elevated this team during the playoffs in '21 season run. Take Stafford off that team they're a wildcard, maybe they lose second round. This is the impact of a QB who can win from the pocket and he also did it with no real run game behind him.

Also not every QB will be Brady in prep, sure. But in that range from best to worse if you want to win titles your QB better be on the high end. Where is Lamar? No idea. But he has always been a regular season all star who wilts in the big games. Also I think it's funny when Ravens fans blame their TE when there were plenty of other opportunities for Lamar to put his team in better position than the moment they ended up in, where they came up short due to that drop.

To Stafford, who is a dude who got it done and won us a title, I will say that if he doesn't play well in this playoff stretch maybe the Rams start thinking seriously about who's next. And this is the NFL. What have you done lately.

Sounds about right. The Ravens look to be on par with Buffalo and Green Bay. San Francisco is up there, too.

The Rams, Eagles, and KC are the top 3 teams in the league over the last 9 years or so. No shame in being listed behind them.

All of these teams, including the Ravens, have great coaching, a great front office, and great culture.

Yeah, we'd have to put SF up there too. Not as many wins (71) as Baltimore (86) but went to 2 SBs and has more postseason wins than the Ravens over that span. Gotta include Tampa (they got a Lombardi which automatically vaults them up) and New England. The Patriots last SB was 8 years ago and they have a great team this year. Plus they have as many postseason wins as Baltimore over that time.

I think Harbaugh is a bit over rated just the same. The Ravens have had a top 10 D for 13 of those 18 years. The O not so much. They put it all together with Flacco 13 years ago but can't get back there with a 2 time MVP?

People in the league seem to love him but consensus seems to be a year or two away.
Yeah and it's a fair consensus. But I suppose then again if Kroenke had given two shits about consensus we wouldn't have hired McVay. So idk and we'll see how it ends up.

Usually it ends bad with the Raiders and that division is absolutely brutal man. So I'd hate to be the new HC in that group, you'd basically be the dude at the poker table wondering who the rube is.

Harbaugh is about to get wined and dined by most of these owners I'd presume. He stands out among the options this year.
