Between that and the "High Tide, High Tide, oops its Roll Tide" commercial, I want to stick a fork in my eye
Sad part is when I attended Giants camp from time to time with my wife when they trained up here in Albany, I would run into a ton of guys just like the High Tide Guy.

Cardinals filled that vacancy quickly by hiring Ohio State's offensive line Coach Justin Frye. Frye a good developer of talent, but struggled in recruiting so the move to the NFL makes sense for both parties.

Campbell will be ok. Johnson was the big loss, because he does seem to give the team an edge in his ability to scheme in the talent they have assembled. But whoever replaces him will have a very strong talent base to work with.

Also maybe his new DC will be a little bit more of a shitkicker. Glenn's a great dude by all accounts but he's quite mild. I don't think a change there is necessarily a bad thing. Draft some talent to help out the new DC and they should be right back in things in the playoffs.

Yeah. I have a few buddies that are Kitty Cat fans. None of them are upset about Glenn. They are, however, upset about Johnson and a couple others.

I think though, the lions are in a tough spot. Loads of talent but now will have a lot to transition to.

A Lions fan is bragging about Campbell’s coaching tree already.

Did Dan Campbell teach Ben Johnson the offense? Campbell seems to me to be more of a culture builder and not some innovative mind. Is Ben Johnson bringing Campbell’s offense to Chicago?

And is Glenn bringing Campbell’s defense to the Jets or is he bringing Belichick’s defense to the Jets?

I don’t consider Raheem or Staley to be part of McVay’s coaching tree. They were defensive coaches. Staley is a part of Fangio’s tree. Morris may be part of Dungy’s tree.

Coen, Taylor, LaFluer, and O’Connel are all head coaches running offenses similar to what they worked with under McVay.

Am I overthinking how a coaching tree works?

I think so. I surely put Josh McDaniels and Matt Patricia as HC fails on the Belicheck tree
Patricia was defense and McDaniels really only coached under Belichick too. The Belichick tree has not been a successful one. But the Parcell’s tree has. Does that just mean Belichick isn’t a great teacher?

Probably no more than many of us.

Even though Staley only spent a year with McVay, he doesn’t get that shot with the chargers without McVay. I think I would include him.

Raheem? I think he was going to get a shot unless he totally fucked up. He probably shouldn’t be part of the tree - especially being that he had already acted as HC.

The old cliche. X's and O's vs Jim's and Joe's. While Johnson was good with X's and O's, the Lions have the Jim's and Joe's to keep winning games.

Probably overthinking it a little but you're also right. Campbell is more of a culture builder I think. I'm curious to see how that offense does next season without Johnson. I think the defense will be fine without Glenn though.

Mcdaniels, OBrien, Weis were all offense guys, Patricia, Brian Flores defense guys, Joe Judge ST guy. All on the Belechik tree.
Likewise Staley and Morris on the McVay tree because they worked under him.
Don’t know why it has to be more complicated than that.
