And really you can make a rational argument that he's one of the worst starting QBs in the NFL when he has a winning record each year - really - that has to be one of the most unfounded statements I have ever heard.

I don't care what stats you bring up - he is a winner so he is an above average QB. He has time after time gotten us leads in the first half and when that happens, he wins. You could say it is McVay or the defense or whatever, but Goff is a large part of this teams success.

We will have to agree to disagree on this point because I am not budging from that statement.

Winning is a team stat.

Deshaun Watson is undeniably better than Goff this year but Houston has only won 4 games.

I got a little testy there. However, I have thought about this a little more and with the way veteran QB salaries are going and the way Goff has played, I think he deserves maybe $30 million a year instead of $35 million a year but unfortunately someone else would have paid that amount for him so the Rams were forced to pay that amount especially the way he played in 2018.

I also believe you are undervaluing Goff because I don't think you have watched the ALL 22 against Seattle and seen that Goff had almost no choice for most of his passes. In the first half, I count 1 horrible (beyond horrible) pass and 2 to 3 possible decisions where he could have gone to someone else and gotten more yards. Plus he had 1 underthrown long pass to Higbee that would have gone for a TD or close to the goal line.

In addition, I will agree that he should have dove for the first down right before half time but I think he still remembers the time that he fumbled when diving forward. However, this play called for a dive since he should have been able to hit the ground before getting hit whereas the other one was what the heck were you thinking Goff diving there with a player just next to you ready to hit the ball out of your hands.

I haven't watched the second half yet but I have a feeling the thumb injury affected his decisions more than he is letting on.

Goff is not worth $30 million.

He only looked that good because of the elite supporting cast - which means be was only worth what he was making, no more. Paying him was a gamble that he would improve enough to offset the supporting cast taking a step back, and that gamble is failing - next year will be the determining factor.

He's playing the same as Gardner Minshew right now - the only argument for him being better than that is the win/loss record - but Deshaun Watson being better with less wins shows how flawed of an argument that is.

I have no agenda - Goff is currently holding the team back and I talk about it.

When Seattle's defense was horrible earlier this year, their fans talked about that. It's generally what happens on a message board.

It could only be an agenda if I wasn't giving him credit when he plays well, but I do. He was the main reason we beat the Cardinals and I acknowledge that.

Seattle’s pass defense is league worst, making last weeks game especially dissapointing. I thought We, without having Akers, would blow the game open with an efficient passing game.

Despite all that and despite the obvious trouble we’ve been having, Im still suprised this thread has so much life.

Oh so it’s on on Goff is it? ( I don’t rely on what I hear, I defer to what I see)

Just curious if you have a take on the Rams running so many short yardage boots...is it because Goff all of a sudden can’t get the ball downfield?

Serious question

My take is that the gameplan is designed that way in order to prevent Goff from getting killed.

I also think its a bit over kill. The roll outs are installed to buy time for longer routes but Seattle shut that down pretty well.

Anyway, Goff has not been sacked too much and it because the short yardage stuff you refer to.

Yep, something along the lines of in the last 6 games, Seattle has the #1 scoring D in the NFL and is top 5 in most categories.

So yeah, they're playing a LOT better than earlier in the season.

Fair enough, feel free to jump in on this Senor @FrantikRam, but of course every time you roll out in this league you forfeiting half the field

I see it as McVay having next to zero confidence in affording time for your basic 7 step drop

Has Goff made some boneheaded decisions...of course he has, then again, considering the type of QB he basically is, he’s not solely responsible for the sputtering O

I would hope the Rams shore up at least two positions on the OLine, or go with a QB that’s confortable making plays to possession receivers while running for his life, lol.

Cheers

I agree the OL should be upgraded. But multiple things can be true - we need to get better offensive players AND Goff is hurting the team with turnovers. These turnovers aren't the fault of the WRs, RBs, OL or coaches - they're on Goff.

Two plays would have changed how I viewed Goff's game last week:

He dives for the first down and comes up short. He doesn't throw the INT and we still don't score on that drive - change those two plays and we still lose 20-9 - I would be echoing those talking about our supporting cast.

But if he dives, it could have led to points, and if he doesn't throw the INT, it probably would have - if he just makes those two plays, we might have won.

If he just doesn't throw that pick to the Jets, we probably win that game.

Every QB throws INTs, but these were really, really bad INTs - ones that he makes too frequently to be chalked up as anomalies.

There’s a lot to digest there my man

let me start with due to an costly unfortunate fumble earlier In the season, I’m going to make a semi educated guess that Goff was under strict order to “get the phuc down“ next time, and yeah I wish he would have this one time ignored that advice.

Annnnd as For the pick, sometimes on the run you make bad decisions, this aint nothing new, wasn’t Mora’s epic “PLAYOFFS“ rant directed at a 5 year In the league Peyton Manning making dumb turnovers

Stuff happens in this league

Not smart football. I assume you're talking about this play: 04:57. There was a LB at the line to gain and a CB that pulled up. Sliding was the right decision. There is a whole half of football to play and the Rams had no TOs. Getting hurt doesn't improve the chances of winning.

For sure and for me, if he just made less bad mistakes, id chalk it up to stuff happens. But the decision making just seems consistently bad and that's what has me so concerned

So wins are a team stat but losses go to Goff. Good grief.
Its not that cookie cutter but ya, Thats kinda where we are at with this discussion. There is alot of evidence both ways imo.

We know there are struggles. We know there are multiple factors that are relevent to those struggles.

Goff could surely help his own cause with better decision making and better field awareness. I’ve been extremely critical of him, mostly for failing to get a first down when we really needed it. But truth be told I have also had alot of confidence that the Rams are about to blow someone the fuck up.

Im going to hold onto that. Even though I think hes held us back, I also think he’s probably gonna be the one to take us forward.
