I picked Pace. I love AD, who will likely have a better career, but Pace is the reason they won that Super Bowl. Just dominate. If Ogden and Jones weren't around Pace would have been seen as an All time great, not just a HOFer IMO
I almost went with Pace as well. He was a rock. He was everything you could ever want in a LT.
However. AD is absolutely, THE most dominant DT, I have ever seen.

That was my logic. (y)

I went with Isaac Bruce over Aaron Donald for a couple of reasons.

  1. Isaac Bruce because he was a 2nd round pick, the rest were first round picks, IMO, you have to factor that in.
  2. Also the Rams had a magazine called "Rampage" back in the early 90's you could subscribe to after they moved to St. Louis they ceased publication. Anyway they had a number you could call during the NFL Draft to get some more information on the guy the Rams just drafted and I called that number and the gentleman provided me the information on the Memphis State Product as it was Memphis State back then not just Memphis. Then he added "Most people feel this is a steal." That resonated with me even though I know he just added that for theatrics, but that is why I voted for Ike.

But den, you ignored the other part. Is Isaac Bruce transcendent at his position? Was he better than Jerry Rice during roughly the same era? Aaron Donald is better than anyone at 3 Tech DT in history, in my opinion. And it's not close.

Aaron Donald will go down as the best player at any position, ever when its said and done. No brainer i think.

That honour belongs to Jerry Rice and will for a long, long time yet.

I'd let Jerry try out for the All Time Best NFL Team ~ GOAT, Aaron Freakin' Donald

I have to disagree... sure WR is a sexier position than DT. AD, barring anything catastrophic has the potential to go down as the best defensive player in history. I can't say that about Rice (Best Offensive Player).

Bruce has a different kind of greatness.
The SB winning kind.
Until Aaron Donald wins a SB as a key contributor, it's Bruce for me.

Donald is greatness, but he might not even be our best defensive player ever.
***shields head from flying objects***

AD as an individual is more dominant, no question. He is a better DT/DE than Bruce was a WR, but not by a landslide. (See his 1995 season, GSOT)
Bruce was the 1st piece of the best offense ever. He had shown greatness and dominance all by himself his sophomore season. Nearly single handedly won our only chip. Retired in the top 5 of nearly everything.

It's not a no-brainer. It's subjective. That second round pick was better for the Rams organization than their 13th overall. Final answer.

Solid.
Agree with you.
Bruce was playing brilliantly before the GSOT was formed.
Bruce was a huge part of that team and showed up in the Super Bowl.

Donald is incredible, no doubt about that.
We could put SJ39 in the poll.
Another phenomenal draft choice.

I'm kind of surprised Torry has no votes. There might be some recency bias with AD....My second pick behind AD would be Orlando Pace, with Ike just behind him. Torry would come after that....

and then Lawrence Phillips...

People may jump on me here, but I refuse to believe that Rice is even the best WR ever. Emmitt Smith has the most rushing yards...is he even top 5? Nope. I think Jerry was amazing, but I don't think he would even be the best WR today. Michael Thomas would have something to say about that. Rice played in an era that hadn't seen that creativity before. It doesnt discount what he's done...but is he the GOAT? Not to me. AD however is legitimately making people in todays game...with all its science and technology, look like fools. People talk about Sapp or Randall being in his conversation. No fuckin way. Those guys were great in their own right, but he surpassed them about 2 seasons ago.

Rice did have longevity, and he was tough as hell. But if you have the game on the line and we have the Rev Ike or Jerry Rice to choose from, I choose Ike.

There has never been a DT like Aaron Donald. Period.

Honestly, had to go with Bruce. He was a second round pick out of Memphis, and he ended up a Hall of Famer and one of the best receivers of all time. Add in that he won a Super Bowl by himself, and he's an easy selection.

Fuck it, changing my vote to Torry; he can't have zero votes while fucking Lawrence Phillips has a vote by some inhuman jerk.
