[Scene: The Ram's Draft House, cluttered with scouting reports and highlight reels. The team is discussing quarterback prospects.]

Ram's Area Scout Gogoat1: "Back in my day, I could throw a pigskin a quarter mile. It’s all about the arm, folks. If he can’t throw it over them mountains, he’s no quarterback of mine."

Les Snead: (Trying to stay focused) "Right, Gogoat1. But let’s talk about this QB's completion rate and decision-making under pressure."

Gogoat1: (Ignoring the question) "Pressure? You think pressure’s what makes a quarterback? Let me tell you, it’s all in the arm. Watch this."

[Gogoat1, with a look of nostalgic determination, attempts to demonstrate by throwing the football across the room, accidentally crashing into an elaborate trophy case situated at the far end of the room.]

Coach McVay:
(Sighing) "Well, there goes the 1999 Super Bowl trophy... Gogoat1, we appreciate your... passion. But maybe let’s focus on the full picture. Arm strength, yes, but also leadership, accuracy..."

Gogoat1: (Undeterred) "Leadership? Accuracy? You can’t lead or be accurate if you can’t launch it from one end zone to the other on your knees. I’ve seen it. I’ve done it."

Analytics Expert Lee: "According to my analysis, this QB prospect has the highest potential for success based on our metrics."

Gogoat1: "Metrics? You ever see metrics throw a football through a tire swing at 60 yards? I thought not."

Les Snead: (Trying to mediate) "Okay, let’s table the 'tire swing' metric for now. Gogoat1, we value your perspective, but let’s balance it with the data and overall skill set."

[As the team continues its discussion, Gogoat1 imagines a quarterback launching the ball from one end of the field, soaring over the mountains, and landing perfectly in a receiver's hands two counties away.
Gogoat1 stares wistfully at the mountains through the window, football in hand, dreaming of the perfect throw - a frozen rope from a rocket arm.]

Les Snead:
(Glancing at the clock) "Okay, team, focus up. We’re on the clock now. Time to make our decision. Remember, we’re not just drafting for talent; we’re drafting for the future of the Rams."
All that for my little post ?
Tell you what, I will give you some advice that will hopefully make you feel a little better.
Take your index finger and your thumb on your right hand. Then slowly reach around and ever so gently behind yourself. Then slowly pull those panties out that seem to be all wadded up.
Better now ?
I will double down. I do not like quarterbacks with weak arms. Just pick a quarterback with the right attributes that has at least a "average" NFL arm. Kurt Warner had a pretty average arm and was good enough.
If you do not really, REALLY like watching in amazement as Stafford makes throws that only he and few others can something is wrong with you besides those panties all wadded up.
I was there in SF when Steve Walsh got pulled and never threw a pass for the Rams again. His ball moved in the air so slow it was pathetic. First pass was almost a pick 6.
Nope, never again. I want quarterbacks with big arms. And big hands so they don't fumble all the time.
Could not care less if they are a great runner either. Pocket first who can move some when needed.
And whats between the ears is most important. Even the arm but must have both.

It might not be a bad idea having him on the practice squad to see if he develops. Seriously doubt any team would sign him.
Are you kidding? If Sean McVay & Les Snead want him, then everybody else will want him. Teams go after every Horns' coach or assistant they can ink up in the hope that one of them just might be that quintillion to one McVay clone. After being universally picked to be one of the 2023 worst squads and ending up as a playoff participant, Horns' envy is surging again!

Go for him. It's wait-and-see time. He could become a solid backup. He has the drive to succeed but, the arm strength is a big question mark.
We'll just have him work out with Aaron or Big Whit, and the arm will strengthen up in no time! :thumbsup1:

Totally get you there. I am a business owner, so I would like to know (if possible) that someone I was considering hiring has a past of "hearing voices". That would be helpful in my hiring decisions. Now, the NFL releases injury reports, etc. so us fans can have some knowledge about the players on the team, or players available for trade or in Free Agency, etc. We use that knowledge for discussion as fans, about our team. So, that was my only point. Following a team as a fan, I'm thinking I would like to know what's up with a player, just like their injury history/status is made available. I don't think extreme detail needs to be disclosed about a "mental" condition, but maybe a general description. Anyway, just sharing my thoughts here since this topic with Bennett has developed.
Injury reports are not actually for the fans. It's for to keep gambling at bay.

Aaaaaaaand, it's kinda a no no to ask about people hearing voices as an employer. Almost like there are some rules against that.

You think that's for US? That's so Vegas can get the spreads right!!!! You think NFL teams get fined injury report errors because that affects internet discussions? Oh my!

I don't think you understand how many sleepless nights the owners have thinking about whether we have enough info or not.

Didn't mean to offend. I just got some Uncle Rico vibes from your post and it inspired me.

And I'm sure Stan knows as he is the business owner in this scenario. I would rather link it to thinking you had a right to know if your counter person at your local McDonalds has had a medical/psychological issue. After all, when it comes down to it, we are customers of the Rams. We consume their product. We don't make their ownership/management decisions.

To clarify, I didn't say that I would ask a person about their mental status during an employment info. I said I would "like to know". Wish we employers could ask!

Taking that correctly would have required him to have a sense of humor. :laugh3:

Fans do analyze spreads and make bets, right?

Who is Uncle Rico ?
Napolean Dynamite. The film, that is.

Napolean's uncle, who house-sits for a while. He was a high school player years ago, who had an inflated sense of how good he had been.

I just don’t understand why he’s so protected.
I can’t think of any other player who disappeared and was able to be so private about it.
Heck we know about Jimmy G porn star addiction. I can’t think of a single player who missed significant time that was granted such impunity.

I believe the answer to that is because the Rams organization is very professional and smart, and compassionate. Many people in that building know exactly what happened yet no one tells. That is a sign of a tight ship. They all should be proud of this, from Stan on down, and former players also mention their appreciation of the organization. It really is a good time to be a Rams fan.

Yes. But what does that have to do with not being told about Bennett? Gonna reverse your bet because the #3 QB, might miss a game?

Sometimes, compassion trumps the need to know. Have you ever done something dumb or embarrassing? And if you did, did you make sure EVERYBODY knew about it?

Well, if I know a certain player has some type of injury, I may NOT place the bet. So, there you go!

Was it Zach - our RB that was bat shit crazy and no one knew until he went totally off the rails in public fashion?

I'm sure there are many the fans don't know about until they do something that brings them into the public eye for it.

For those who think they have the right to know about any player's private life, I had my own personal demons that I was hesitant to share online until I knew I could trust y'all. I was ashamed about what happened in my life, scared people would reject me, and thank fate, y'all have been the kindest group I've been a part of, and a major reason why I check this site every day.

Now put that with Stetson Bennett. As far as I'm concerned, so long as whatever he did wasn't illegal, I don't care, and I don't have to know; he deserves just as much compassion and respect for his private life - until he feels comfortable enough to share it with the public (which may happen late or never happen, but even if it doesn't happen, that's fine as well) - as we can give him. This is a guy who walked on and won two National Championships. Guy probably lives and breathes football. Whatever happened can't have been easy for him.

I am not Bennett's biggest fan as a draft pick, but I respect that the Rams organization is keeping things on a need-to-know basis, with the media and the public not amongst those who need to know. And no, so long as it's not illegal or immoral, we do not have the right to know everything about everyone's personal demons. That is private for reasons all to our own, and we owe it to nobody to share them until we feel comfortable enough - if we feel comfortable enough - to share them.

Just my personal thoughts.
