Aw man there are too many to mention! It depends on your budget and how well stocked your liquor store is. It also depends on whether you like the sweeter, softer styles or the smoky ones.

As a general, go-to, always reliable entry type scotch you want to grab one of the below:

Glenfiddich 12 year old (smooth, sweet, soft)

Talisker ten year old (like drinking liquid smoke)

Old Pulteney 12 year old (healthy middle ground between the styles - both sweet and salty as the distillery is on the coast)

All of these are widely available even in the USA and shouldn't break the bank.

If you have a particular taste let me know and I can recommend some really good stuff at any budget. I have 39 bottles of Scotch in my collection currently (plus a few Irish, Japanese and even a Taiwanese)

Avoid Macallan btw. Overpriced for what it is. Same with Dalmore, avoid unless you're not bothered about good value. Conversely, dont turn your nose up at Johnnie Walker, the Green Label especially is great value for what it is.

My personal favourite distilleries are Arran, Glendronach, Clynelish, Glengoyne, Sprinbank and Deanston. If you see anything from these distilleries they normally will be very good indeed.

I love whisky!!!

Little surprised The Glenrothes 18 year old gets no love Scotty.

May cost a buck fifty or so, but it’s a mighty fine Scotch

Big diff between 12 and 18 years, worth the cost imo, not for the power drinkers obviously

Aw man if you want to go real nice shit I have some of that too. I have a Deanston 18 year old that is incredible. I have a bunch of independently bottled blends ranging in age from 30 to 41!! Years old. I have a very special Longmorn aged in a Caribbean rum cask which is 23 years old.

I could talk about whisky all night.

Yes Sir we could, so little time, so many premiere whiskey’s to select from, I was introduced to 18 year Glenrothes around 20 plus years ago, been hooked ever since, I’ll concede your experience far outweighs mine, I tend to stick with something I really like

Nothing wrong with that. When I finish something good I keep an eye out for it again but at the prices of some of these bottles it's hard to go back to them. I obviously have the benefit of living close to these distilleries, so lots of my time and money is spent touring them. You always get a good distillery exclusive bottling at almost all the distilleries. So quite often I will try something new instead of going back - but there are 4 or 5 that I would always replace.

Most recently I visited Oban and Tobermory. I picked up an Oban 14, and an Oban distillers reserve at Oban and a Tobermory 12 year old at Tobermory. They had some real nice stuff at Tobermory (it's also the distillery where they make Ledaig) but I was gonna end up single if i kept spending money lol.

Appreciate the opportunity to chat to another aficionado

The bars I have visited in the States when I have been over have all had pretty generic scotch collections. I guess there will be specialist places to get good stuff, but if you ever want something you cant get just shout, I'm happy to send stuff over if you cover the shipping costs.

Pretty much Glenlivet 12, Glenfiddich 12, McCallan or JWBlack in most places Cali, sad but true, I suppose whiskey has become old school with some folks, these things may go in cycles, who knows

Thanks for the offer, I ll definitely keep that in mind my next excursion up North to visit family

Cheers!
