That's going to be tough. The media seems to be slanted towards Altuve. And though they shouldn't, they will take into account his previous 3 seasons of 200 hits. He was predominately the Astro's #3 hitter in their lineup and in that slot (393 abs), he drove in 50 runs and hit .305. I guess you could say Houston misused him as his numbers were far better in the #1 and #2 slot (.427 in 194 abs).
Judge had that terrible slump after the all star game and that could be his downfall. I remember hearing some guys from MLB Channel predicting a downfall once pitchers figured out how to attack him. One guy when asked if he'd reach 50 and surpass McGwire emphatically said "no way". It (the way they pitched him) worked.....for a while. In September, during the stretch drive, .311, 29 runs scored, 32 rbi, 15 homers, 32 walks, .463 OB%, .889 Slg% and a 1.352 OPS, nobody held him down. His performance helped the Yankees go 20-8 putting pressure on Boston, though they fell short in the end.
There are solid arguments for Altuve, Judge and Trout to be the MVP. For me, with all the time he missed I gotta rule out Trout. So the question is, who was more valuable to their team Altuve or Judge? Would the Astros be West Champions without Altuve? Would they still be a playoff team? I think they are with Springer (.283, 34 HR 85 rbi), Correa (.315, 24, 84), Reddick (.314, 13, 82), Gonzalez (.303, 23, 90), Gurriel (.297, 18, 74) and Bregman (.285, 19, 71) all being huge contributors, not to mention Beltran and McCann. Are the Yankees a playoff team without Judge? I seriously doubt it, no disrespect to Sanchez and Didi G.
Ironically, Judges slump is why he should be mvp. They were out of it. Has a monster September and they almost win.
He leads Altuve in every catagory.
He is 1st or 2nd in almost every catagory.
But he’s got the anti Yankee bias against him as well as no rookie has ever won the mvp.
My bad on Lynn... It was 1976 when the MVP mattered most to me!!!He carried them in April and May when Gregorius (25 HR, 87 rbi, great defense) missed all but 3 games in April and Sanchez (33 HR, 90 rbi) missed 21 games in April and May. Thrown in Ellsbury, Hicks and Holliday missing a lot of time the rest of the year, Chase Headley hitting like Chasen Shreve in May and the only constant has been Judge. The reason the slump is somewhat over blown is this....despite hitting just .206 with 10 homers and 20 rbi in July and August, he still took his walks (41) and had an OB% of .355, scoring 29 runs. His numbers in April, May and June, were so good, the slump was magnified. Then he had a monster September where they go 20-8, almost catching Boston and win the first wild card. They were 28-27 when he was slumping and 63-44 when he wasn't. If that doesn't point to his value to the Yankees, I don't know what does.
BTW, Fred Lynn from Boston won ROY and MVP in 1975. Ichiro did it as a 28 year old "rookie" in 2001. I always believed Jim Rice deserved the ROY and MVP in 1975 because he took over LF (in Fenway) from Yaz and played it like a seasoned pro. In the end, Rice's career numbers were way better than Lynn's but then that's not what ROY is about.
In the midst of Judge’s August swoon, AB was tearing it up and I actually thought it was possible he could catch Judge in the ROY race. Then September happened and by no fault of AB, Judge pulled away.Dont forget rookie Andrew Benintendi and his 20HR/19SBs so far.
Two incredible years by Judge and Bellinger make it almost unfair to the other rookies this year lol.

He’s a fantastic player though. And your 3B is the new Ortiz to the Yankees. He’s a killer!
Judge is the MVP and if he didnt hurt himself in the Allstar game putting on an HR show for everyone, he'd have better numbers than Stanton.
Also of note, the highest batting average for a player with 200+ strikeouts had been .265
He finished 20 points higher than that!!
20-8 in September thanks to Judge!!
MVP
Alltuve is a great player but nothing about his year says MVP
He's the batting champ, and kudos for that
Congrats Astros, fun team to watch. Rooting for the city of Houston now!
Tough loss yesterday. When Houston put Verlander in, I thought for sure they were gagging, and then the home run made me think the Sawx were gonna win the series.Congrats Astros, fun team to watch. Rooting for the city of Houston now!

Yeah, CC going. I dont remember a manager ever blowing a game as bad as Girardi on Friday. Was strange that Sale came back out, I was shocked that they got to Kimbrel. I dont know how anyone hits that guyManager John thought it was a good idea to throw Sale back out there after barely getting through the 7th. It was almost as bad as Giradi not challenging. Nice run by your Yankees! its been exciting. Big one for you tomorrow. CC going in that one?
